Let me tell you, as someone who has pulled the trigger, it feels like I can still taste that quail. It's as if nature gave me a bonus for being an asshole. It could be a case of rose colored glasses, because that happened in probably the best period of my life, though. I don't know for sure because I never tried again.

Glad to hear that. As for why some animals are more valued, I'd hazard a guess that it depends on how close to us on the evolutionary scale they are. Mammals, in most peoples' minds, trump reptiles & fish for that reason. Cuteness as we perceive it, also has something to do with it, I imagine. Monetary cost probably plays into it for some people, as well. A $1,000.00 purebreed dog or cat is preceived as more "valuable" than a $3.99 fish. More replaceable, I guess.

I think so called slimey creatures always get a raw deal.

Basically, in America, if it's not a dog or a cat, it's shit. I don't know why, but that's the way it is...and it's pretty bullshit. I didn't want to tell anyone why I was sad when my Guinea Pig died because you immediately get looks of "Oh... (well why are you so upset?)"
