Dante's Inferno - Page 6

Ascii art marketing on html pages around the internet. digg.com, others.

They should have changed a few review scores while they were back there.
Buy hey, Destructoid gave it a 9/10.
They're a bunch of stupid assholes, though.
Not that it's worth anything but Digital Foundary are saying they're literally identical games on the 360 and PS3.

THIS IS WONDERFUL.

Am I the only one who was really impressed with the Super Bowl ad? Great song choice. I still don't see myself buying this until it's well under 20 bucks, but good job all the same, EA!
Yes, given the horrible job the marketing department has done thus far we were all doubting that the marketing team on this product couldn't craft a decent looking trailer for the Super Bowl.

Gametrailers review didn't like it very much.

I'm somewhat surprised because they'll sometimes be kind to hugely hyped games.
I can't wait for this to be a bargain bin title. I'm all over it then.

So it's the biggest God of War clone ever made (does nothing new) and the way they adapted it made me see red at parts, but it's pretty damn fun, actually. Until the end of the game, which contains one of the most infuriating game decisions I've ever been subjected to. Game killing stuff, really, feels like it was only included to beef up the length of the game.

But honestly? It's a really enjoyable experience, even with all its flaws. The environments are fantastic, the sounds disgusting and thrilling, the cinematics some of the best I've seen. Probably going to rate about a 7.5.
I'll pick it up when it drops below $20.

How would you rate the non-funness of that section on a scale of zero to God Of War 1 Hades level?
If you had to choose between this, the Wolverine game, and the Conan game, which is more fun?
Wolverine, I'm willing to bet, if only because the Conan game blows (especially compared to Viking), the price is right most places nowadays, and only one of these games allows you to shove a guy's head into a helicopter rotor.
If a train carrying Dante's Inferno leaves New York going at one hundred twenty miles per hour at 3:00 PM, and another train carrying God of War 3 leaves Hartford at the same time traveling ninety miles per hour, at what point does Bayonetta become a bargain title?
I feel like I'm the only person in the world who got utterly bored by Wolverine about halfway in. The game just felt like a slog.

Now Viking is an overly brutal game with a mythological setting that I can get behind. LOVE that game to pieces.

But it was a God of War game with pointless nudity way before Dante's Inferno AND has a really bored sounding Ron Perlman doing the voice of Conan.

And I thought Viking wasn't quite an exact God of War clone.
It wasn't, and thats part of what made it good.
Viking was fucking terrible.

Nu-uh.

It's been a while since I played it actually, so it might actually be terrible, but I thought it was really fun and had a really nice design style to it.
Conan wasn't COMPLETELY awful, but it was worth every penny of the $5 I paid for it and not much more. I soured on it pretty fast.

I'd put the Dante's Inferno level as one of my least favorite I've played in years, as one of the worst decisions ever made in an otherwise decent game. It's almost mind-bogglingly bad.

But on a whole, probably about as fun as Wolverine... although visually of course it blows that game out of the water, of course. It blows most games away, in fact- some of the circles of hell really are stunning.

And hey, I dug Viking!
Oh great, now I'm going to have to reevaluate my thoughts on Viking.

Is the horrible bit in Dante's Inferno the arena section which makes up the penultimate level?

My friend was threatening to give the game a 3 out of 10 because of that section.

Yes it is.
Gluttony is great level design. It almost makes me ill.
I liked Viking too.. solid C+/B game. I was playing a lot of WoW at the time though so it might have just seemed better in comparison. On a sidenote, Viking is still the only game I have ever gotten 1000/1000 GS on.

Getting back to Dante's, I don't forsee a gap wide enough in my video game dance card to accomodate that game in the near future.
I loved Conan's fighting engine. Great move set with a unique level up system that should be used in more beat-em ups today. 80% of the bosses sucked though, so I can see why some people have less than good things to say about it.

I think out of all the GOW clones out there I've enjoyed the Wolverine game the most.

Back to Dante, I was digging the game till I got to the heresy level. My drive to play and finish the game has dropped off immensely. Seems like the reviews were right, the last 1/3 of the game can't compare to what came before it.
Malebolge could have been the best designs of the game. There's a vat of shit! I don't really mind the arenas, so far, but it's a big missed opporunity at least.
It's pretty fun, of course I didn't play GoW all that much.

The ten arenas isn't that bad, since the challenges aren't that long, but I do wonder if it takes more time to do that level than the others. Of course, it feels more tedious since it's repetition.
I'm liking it a lot - the sound and art design are wonderful.

I no longer believe in such things, but as a kid the concept of Hell terrified me, and it still tickles a dark corner corner of my imagination. (Drag me to Hell stayed with me. 'That poor girl!') If this was simply 'Random Warrior Guy in Demon World' it might not be as compelling, but the feeling of traveling deeper and deeper into hell makes it quite gripping.

It's going to be a short ride though. Just got it yesterday, and I just started circle six. Definitely worth a rent now, and a purchase once the price drops. Basically, it will tide you over until GoW 3.

Is that Blessed? Whoops. I had no idea they actually hired a name actor for Viking.

They didnt make any fuss about it and would have gotten away with it, but as the more the story gets oever the top, Blessed cant help reveal himself in all hIS GLORY!
It went over my head as well; the game didnt hook me, but i kept thinking the narration scenes were badass.
A couple months later, i knew why.

Last third of the game drops the ball in a big way. Felt rushed. This is an ideal rental. If you don't quite finish, well, no big loss.
The game's complete lack of explanation in regards to Beatrice's wager with the Devil is pretty hilarious. Did he just drop by her place one day and make a bet on Dante's fidelity? What exactly was Beatrice hoping to gain out of said bet? Whatever it was, gambling with Satan certainly doesn't reflect well on her supposed innocence.

Blah Blah, (SPOILERS if you haven't played it)

For the most part, this game was a good time waster.

But, like people have said numerous times, if you read the poem, you will hate the game. I would have liked the game so much better if it was a different person set in the setting of Dante's Inferno. Kind of like the game "The Lost" that was in development many years ago.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lost_(video_game)

It would have set better with me rather than try to make it Dante himself.
I will say the game tries to keep certain rules set forth in the poem, such as the punishments themselves. (by the way, where were the damn centaurs? Other than the statues???!!).

Like I said, a good time waster, the only part of the game that made me want to throw it and cry (like the gamefly commercials) was the maleboge. The 10 level "arena" at the end of the game.
The 10 levels of Fraud in the poem had some of the more terrifying and creepy moments in it. And this game has reduced it to some arena fights. You only know where you are because of the "narration" by some of the worst female voice acting I have heard. Oh, and the "statues" representing where you are.
It's horrible, it's tedious, and pointless.

If your thinking of buying it, save your money, go buy the Sonic all star racing, it's just as evil and will make you feel just as dirty for playing it.

Not necessarily. I was an English major, and studied the poem then. As soon as I knew it was an action game, I knew it couldn't be a literal interpretation, and just let the game be it's own thing. 'Inspired by', as opposed to a close adaptation. Maybe some sort of point-and-click Myst thing could follow it, and the next two parts, more closely.

Man did this game bomb.
It sold less than 100k copies on the first week.

My favorite thing about the game was the transposing of the Divine Comedy onto a stupid action game. It was a constant source of amusement, that one second I'd be fighting a naked corpse women with a giant pustulant tentacle flying out of her vagina to whip me, and the next I'd run into Count Ugolino, the wealthy Florentine that switched allegiances from the Guelfs to the Ghibellines. Then, I stab him in jaw with my Reaper scythe.

If it hadn't been for the crude bastardization of much of the poem, matched with the usually faithful adherance to the geography, and a bunch of strange little moments that wouldn't really please either camp (the weird virtuous pagans in limbo section, with Saladin), I would have enjoyed this a lot less.

If anyone actually wants to buy this, Amazon has it on sale for $46 today.
I rented it and liked it enough, but that's still too high. Once it's $30 or less I'll bite.
Still waiting for the rapidly approaching $6.66 Dante Discount.
I'll be interested once it goes below $20 which shouldn't take too long.

As far as Conan goes, I'm a fan of the short stories so I actually got some enjoyment out of the game and it cost me less than $10.

They actually did that a few months ago. Marketing department didn't miss a beat.
Once the lust demons started showing up in the other levels of hell I knew I wouldn't finish this rental. I can't believe the Dead Space team could fuck up that much.
EA seems to have more misses then hits. I played the demo and that was enough for me. I'll just wait for God of War 3.
