The Addams Family on Broadway?

Apparently so. With Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia. Lane can carry a show, obviously, but I don't really get a Gomez kind of vibe from him. But Neuwirth as Morticia is inspired.

And boy can she dance. I'll see any show with her talent attached. Thinking about it, I'm kind of surprised this hasn't happened yet. The Addams Family seems perfect for a Broadway show.

I <3 Bebe. She is smoking hot. And those legs.....woo boy.

Terrence Mann is playing the father of the normal son with whom Wednesday falls in love, so that's another Broadway vet in the cast.

Seems wrong that Wednesday appears to be a decade older than Pugsley. Otherwise, the casting is inspired. Tickets for this will be more expensive than a flight to Tokyo, though.

As great as he is, Nathan Lane is all kinds of wrong for Gomez.

Well, one specific kind of wrong, for sure. But if it turns out to be halfway decent, you can probably thank his involvement for getting it backed.

Wait for the national tour. Maybe it'll be Banderas.

Neuwith is perfect for Mortica, but Lane as Gomez seems like a pick made less on the actor being right for the role and more on Lane's huge popularity with Broadway audiences.

Michael Cervasis should have been Uncle Fester. Thanks, that's all.

Cervasis, also, would have been great as Gomez. If they wanted to go the Raul Julia route, would have been fun to see Paolo Szot.

If they turn this into Wicked, I'm going to kill some motherfuckers. Now that's all.

sigh.

...and the self-cannibalisation of pop culture continues unabated.

I wonder what will happen when it finally eats it's own tail and has to start all over again?

John Goodman is the clearly the best choice for Fester.

As dumb as an idea as I think this is I'd kill several people I think quite highly of just to see Bebe Neuwith do Morticia.
Morticia Addams and Lillith from Cheers were two early developmental crushes for me. To have them combined would be glorious.

The backstage gossip on this one is pretty amazing. Lane and Newirth not getting along? Who knew?

(Not as good as Megan Mullally dissing Patton Oswalt, though.)

It's like God gave Bob Fosse the power to create the perfect dancer, and he came up with Bebe Newirth.

Lane kind of looks like Gomez from the original Charles Addams cartoons, but I don't think he's right for the character. Neuwirth is pretty good as Morticia though. I don't know, I don't think The Addams Family is a good fit for this type of musical.

I don't like Gomez with an accent.

It worked for Raul Julia, because that was his natural accent. Lane seems like he's just trying too hard, but as stated earlier in the thread it seems he was cast more for the audience he would draw.
