I know, it's insanely early. But with Kentucky back in a big, big way, I had to say something. Calipari is a recruiting BEAST. UK is loaded, top to bottom, and the second 5 could probably challenge for an SEC title. Patterson's already agreed to come back. Meeks SHOULD come back. If the players have any sort of chemistry and learn the offense, this could be an epic season for Wildcat fans.

This recruiting class is on par with the Fab 5 for best ever (statistically, lets see how they play on the court). Wall, Bledsoe, Dodson, Hood, Cousins, Orton... damn.

There is talk that they might try to hold Midnight Madness in the football stadium.
HAHAHAHAHAHA Fuck you, Calipari, Memphis and Kentucky.

Anyone else excited for Midnight Madness? I haven't been this excited for a season in quite awhile (half-way through Tubby's tenure). I'm growing quite the man-crush on Patrick Patterson this season, especially after reading this article:

I'm sorry to say that in FSU's case, I'm actually looking forward to basketball season.
Kentucky should enjoy the wins they get now, because they're going to have to forfeit them in a few years when the NCAA investigates the recruitment of John Wall...

Also, I'm watching the UNC/NCCU game: Carolina's John Henson looks like the spindly alien from Close Encounters.

Is that his twin? Seriously, this kid is freakishly skinny. He's totally lost in their offense. They actually have been giving him playing time at SG. 6'10, 195lbs. Sick, just sick.

Whoa, UF knocks off No. 2 Michigan State. I'm not going to get nuts, but the combination of size plus an effective trap may have Donovan and the Gators on their way back to national relevance...

My slim hope for the UF/FSU football game today rides on the fact that the FSU basketball team has beaten UF 3 years in a row, while the football team has lost. Since the basketball team lost this year...

Yeah, I know, it's stretching, but I gotta cling to something.

And actually, FSU is in the finals in a tournament vs. Marquette on Sunday.
Indiana vs. Kentucky at noon. Man, I fucking hate Hoosiers. Ever since Matt M. posted that CE3K picture, I automatically associate that with Wall now.

Now, excuse me while I watch the visitor play against Indiana.

Kentucky: the first NCAA Basketball team to reach 2000 wins.

Sounds so nice.

It was fun to watch the celebration too. Love the UK2K shirts.

I'm not looking forward to Saturday. Hopefully, Pitino can be graceful about it.
Meanwhile, last night Indiana lost their top scorer to a season-ending knee injury, in the last game before the Big Ten season.

If the intensity of this UK/UL game stays this high throughout, I may have to break out the homemade defibrillator

With Texas losing, UK is the lone unbeaten. This is not good for such an immature, "emotional" team.

On the bright side, the Big Blue nation did manage to raise over a million dollars for Haiti over the weekend.

My how Carolina has fallen this year. But being the real fan I am I still care. They're young, and have an amazing recruiting class coming in next season, so they'll be much better with experience. This is their reloading season.

You have to love being a UK fan right now. Not only do you get to see John Wall play every game, watch Eric Bledsoe develop, and witness Patrick Patterson play the game the way it was meant to be played, but you get to enjoy the "Demarcus Cousins Adventure Ride!" Will he put up a 20/20 in 25 minutes of action? Will he taint-stomp an opposing player? YOU DON'T KNOW! It's like getting to cheer for Bill Laimbeer again.
I just knew FSU would find a way to piss away that UNC game, but they didn't. They've got a decently easy remaining ACC schedule, so as long as they don't 0-fer the rest of the way out, they're pretty much a lock to make the NCAAs. Now they're playing for the ACC tourney "bye"--if they can win 2 of the next 3, they should finish 3rd in the division. Amazing that they played UMD so close, before anyone realized they would do so well in the ACC.

Good day to be a Syracuse fan. A very, very good day.
There's the FSU I know...blowing a 13 point lead, then blowing a 5 point lead in the last minute to lose a game that was easily winnable. Fucking Hamilton.

My wife and I went out this weekend with another couple, and the husband was asking me every 5 minutes--"What's the score on Syracuse game?" He was already pontificating earlier in the day after Kansas lost that Syracuse could be #1 if they won convincingly.

Here, here. Mike, I've always noticed you're from Liverpool. I have friends that live there and in the area (I'm from the Syracuse area myself, kinda in between Syracuse and Utica). The 'Nova game on Saturday was incredible.

You ever go to the Cobble Stone? That's where my friends watch games. Free peanuts.
Free peanuts! Where is this place?!

No, I've never been there. If I watch games out, it's usually at the Blue Tusk or Kitty Hoynes. I work downtown.

That's awesome! Blue Tusk was my college bar.

I don't know how closely any folks here were following this story, but here's the least surprising headline I've seen in quite some time:

Renardo Sidney declared ineligible by NCAA

I mean, if Tim Floyd won't touch the guy, how the hell did anyone expect this story to end any differently?
First upset--Syracuse loses to Georgetown in the Big East Tourney.
Ugh. That was a brutal game to watch.

I still predict SU will go the distance in the NCAA Tournament though.
I'm trying to temper my excitement for FSU in both the ACC and NCAA tourneys based on their amazing inconsistency late in games. If they find a way to continue their excellent defense and score in the last 5-7 minutes they may go really far in both. But they'll be playing much harder teams than Miami and UNC so my expectations are low. If you like high scoring games, don't watch FSU games.

Locally the papers and alumni here are thhhiissssss close to calling for Hewitt's head at Ga Tech. If they lose the first ACC game he may be a goner.
ACC tourney is weird...Duke barely got by UVA (it was closer at the half), GT beats #2 seed UMD, Miami upsets Va. Tech, and FSU is just now starting their game vs. 11th seed NC State. The final 4 could be Duke, then all lower seeds, should FSU lose.
Florida wins one, then forgets how to play defense against Mississippi State. They're still in the tournament, but it looks like Billy Donovan's back to his days of just getting into the tourney, only to lose in the first or second round. Nobody will expect them to get to the Sweet 16 this year.
A guy from the Orlando Sentinel put out a post asking why people aren't more into FSU Bball. I replied "inconsistency" and that they lose too many games that they should win. Last night was a prime example. 20 turnovers, < 50% from the FT line. Pathetic. They don't have an offense to get past stuff like that. And when they play a team that can hit shots from the perimeter (like NC State was doing), they lose every time, because they can't defend that.
It's going to be so damn weird to try to follow the NCAAs from here (Selection Sunday at 11:30 pm?). I signed up for March Madness on Demand just for the hell of it.

Shame too, as Syracuse looks to have a real shot at things.
Selection committee loves Duke, hates Kentucky. Purdue should not be a 4 seed. 6 at best.
Interesting...Va. Tech becomes the first 10-win ACC team to miss the tourney since it expanded in 1985.

FSU is most likely one and done, playing against Gonzaga.
Florida as well, against BYU on the west coast - I predict a 20-point blowout loss.

Duke has a freaking cakewalk to the Final Four.
Is there usually a Chud tourney bracket group?
We did one last year. I forgot who ran it but they just used a tourney bracket builder from Yahoo! I think. I'll search the old thread and maybe PM whoever did it and ask if they're interested again. If not, I might be able to organize something.
Tennessee was screwed. Beat the top two teams in the tourney, have a higher RPI than all of the #4 seeds, and they have to settle for a 6 seed. Ridiculous.
I set one up.

I set it up so everyone could do two brackets because why not?

Post your bracket name(s) in here and I'll keep a running tally in this post.

Anyone else having a hard time making selections on the Yahoo Bracket? I click on the team and nothing happens...
I used the wiggy "Choose which team" thing by clicking on the info button. Then I edited by doing it the click on a team way. It worked out ok for me.

I got it now, my computer was just sucking.
I'm usually pretty good at these, but this year will be the real test since I'm, you know, in another country and haven't seen any college basketball all year...
