Surprised there wasn't a thread for this already!

Deadpool trailer hit today- http://chud.com/articles/articles/19...E-2/Page1.html

Have to agree with you, not a big fan of the others ether.

And that last line is a classic.

I've bought the 360 version about 3 times now (all for under 10 bucks each time) and I just cannot get into it at all. I think it's because I never know what the hell is happening on the screen. I'd like that Deapool trailer if it was for a game like Wolverine. That would be fun as fuck.
I've been keeping an eye on this as well. Never bothered to pick up the first one since from what I can remember I only had a PS3 and it was a much later release for the PS3.

My friend bought a new 360 Arcade bundle a while back that included it and Forza 2 though so I may try to play it some before the new one comes out.

I've got a soft spot for Ravensoft since I bike by their office all the time.

Wow, I honestly thought I was the only person who didn't utterly love UA. It sorta bored me to tears. And then I tried the Wii port which was so bad that I passed it on to poor Jon Cassady. http://www.chud.com/articles/article...NCE/Page1.html
post #6 of 128
I would have loved this game when I was 8.
My son (who is 7) loves the game, so I've played it with him and finished it like a half dozen times. He's already been asking me when this one is coming out, especially now that he's seen the Hulk is in this one.
I don't think I've ever been so bored as when I was playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance
post #9 of 128
The reason I enjoyed the first one came more from the standpoint of being happy to see a game with a TON of playable comic book characters than the actual game itself. This is one of those games where I'll wait for the reviews in case there's been some new addition to the gameplay mechanics that hasn't been talked about yet, in which case I'll give it a shot.
I quit 3/4 of the way through MUA because it was so insanely easy. There really wasn't any challenge in it. Being a former Marvel whore I did enjoy the characters and the neat little comic touches but they weren't enough to keep me interested. I'm giving MUA2 a wait and see until the reviews come out.
Why does Deadpool's hood have a nipple on the back?
I have M:UA for the Wii and seeing video of the versions on other systems is the only thing that makes me dislike my Wii.

It is a boring ass game for sure. Geeking out on being able to play characters only goes so far.

Where did those screen caps come from? That does NOT look like my Wii version.
I enjoyed...Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and I am looking forward to...MUA2. I really like that...Iron Fist is in the game. Now, I can have a team which includes...Power Man and Iron Fist, which has always been one of my favorite comics. I hope that...The Punisher is included, if he isn't, then Deadpool will join...Wolverine to round out my team.
I played the game because my kids are in the "Superhero" phase. They would go apeshit every time I played it for them, coming up with new teams to put together. Meanwhile I was about to pass out from the repetitive nature of the game.
As a single player experience, yeah, Ultimate Alliance was boring. But as a multiplayer Baldur's Gate rip-off, it was a lot of fun to have different friends come over and just jump right in, especially when you would happen upon some obscure Marvel character who happened to be their favorite.

The trailer attached to Wolverine just looked awful. Maybe it was going from seeing the stellar cut-scenes Raven put together, but UA 2 looks like it's being released on the original XBox.
It was fun to play as the many characters with their powers until you realize that each level was pretty much the same (fight waves of foot soldiers then a boss).
It hits in a few days...who else here is going to get it?
Yeah I will be. The first game was the first purchase I made for my psp. Fun for what it was.
This one I'm going to be playing for the online co-op factor. My XBL handle is AdmiredJigga420 if anyones interested for some co-op superhero skull smashing.
I've had this thing pre-ordered for months. I played the shit out of the first one and can't wait to take on both factions of the Civil War. I'm still pissed that Dr. Strange has been taken out but hopefully that will be corrected in DLC. Jmub, expect a friend request in the near future, I.E., after football sometime today.
Cool mate, see you online soon. Reportedly only 24 playable characters compared to the first one, but I'm hoping the developers used the shrunk cast to really differentiate the characters in gameplay: Different combo's and moves for each one. A brief youtube of the the launch trailer cinematic reveals one thing: the cut scenes don't seem half as awesome as the first games.
Yeah, the Nightcrawler cut scene in part 1 was awesome for the time. Every trailer that has been released either on a preview from another game or from the xbox live marketplace has looked ugly and bland as hell. Muted colors and lifeless textures abound. On the flip side, all hands-on impressions I have read mentioned that the combos and character likeness have been drastically improved. I think the creators did a wise thing basing this off of the Civil War story line as it opens up a lot of possibilities as far as boss battles and whatnot.
I'm still kinda intrigued because aparently, the Secret/Civil War thing is part of the game...the launch trailer even hints that the game has yet another story arc...been wondering what it could be.
Based on the ending to the first MU, I'll go nuts if they give us a real EVERYONE VS Galactus boss fights.

That would be utterly amazing, especially in light of the fact that the Galactus encounter in the first was moronic to say the least.
Well the trailers make it seem like you beat up Iron Man.. a lot.

I'm not super concerned by the lack of quality cut scenes, just make the combat and missions fun. Short of major fuck you reviews, I'll be up for some co-op, invite me up.
I loved the hell out of MUA1, and I'll picking this up Tuesday. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I love these games.

I'm disappointed Frank Castle didn't make the cut. I wouldn't have wanted him in the first game - he'd be out of place swimming through Atlantis and fighting Galactus, but this game is supposed to be a bit more down-to-earth, and he played a big part in the Civil War storyline. Saved Spidey's ass anyway.

The graphics in this one looked much improved. The last one was more or less a launch title for the current generation of consoles, and it shows if you look at it now.
I am not buying this game for...$60. If either Nick Fury or The Punisher are available in the...possible/eventual platnium release, then I would buy it. Marvel Superhero Squad, looks much more like an old school beat em up, and that is the game I am buying instead.
I enjoyed the first game, but this is not a day one purchase for me. I'll be awaiting some reviews.

My two problems:

1: Civil War. Bleah. Who gives a shit? Give me a new, unique storyline.
2: Deadpool. Never understood the love. I have the same problem with Deadpool that I have with the Punisher; call me an old fogey, but the idea of a superhero who shoots people just doesn't sit well with me. Plus, his name sucks.

Fury is in it Fleed, he was the "secret" character that was *finally* unveiled yesterday. I was hoping for Castle myself, especially given the storyline but with Activision's recent penchant for fleecing gamers, I don't doubt for an instant he will be part of a future DLC pack.
Dr. Strange, Thank you for the info about...Nick Fury. I know he is a...non playable character, but maybe if MUA2 is a hit, NF could be playable in a possible platinum edition, just like with MUA. I do not download games, so I will have to see if such an edition arrives.

I would argue that The Punisher isn't a superhero, the costume and codename notwithstanding. I'm with you on Deadpool. I think he's someone that the kids just love, a la Venom. Remember you can avoid using characters you don't like. Old fogey? Use the Fantastic Four or something and show those whippersnappers what for!
My only decision is whether I gamble and buy it for the Wii or cheap out and go PS2.
Stopped by Blockbuster today and they had 1 copy for PS3 left in stock. I'm still trying to play through Prototype (which I'm currently renting as well) so I decided not to pick it up. I was definitely tempted though.
My room-mate picked this up and we had two buddies come over and play it.

Really fun game in a social environment. Not sure how it would work if it was just you. But I will say, every complaint you had about the first game, the leveling up, the way no one knew how the fucking powers worked, has been fixed. It's a far more pleasing experience and the facelift is great, too. Encountered some technical quirks, like one boss stalled during a countdown, but beyond that, smooth sailing.
Got the game, seems like fun online. Don't think this would really hold up as a single player experience.
I want this game, I really do, but it's its own fault for coming out a week before a Halo game and the same week as Red Faction DLC.
So, I just heard that this game starts with Secret War, so I was like YAY

Then I found out it's the shitty Secret War, and I went back to not giving a shit.
Got it, beated one side of the story.
Its good, but its more of the same (although a bit dumbed down) that we got in the first one...the story is fun unti the final act, were it gets a bit lazy and could have used one of the many evil characters that could had fitted the plot.
It does earn a soft spot in my heart because of Deadpool's "Deadpool needs health, BADLY!" line.
So is this worth buying or should I wait till it's cheap/rent it?

Depends:

LOVED the first one or the X-men Legends series; going to play multiplayer with other fans? Buy it.

Just in for the story/first time with the series? Rent/wait till its cheap.

Like I said, its pretty great, but its more of the same, and dumbed down in plot/gameplay.
I was caught off guard and couldnt help but get a good long laugh to find some henchman hiding in the portapotty in the construction level towards to beginning. Not the funniest gag ever but it was so unexpected that it really got to me.
I can't imagine how the gameplay could be dumbed down from the first one. I enjoyed it, but deep it wasn't. If they've somehow simplified it from that, I don't think I'm very interested.

Dumbed Down = you can access an in game quick menu to asign points and check powers, item equip has been changed to a slot based , equip team bonus screen.
Maybe dumbed down isnt the right words, but you can just set every hero to autospend XP points and never equip a bonus, and you'd never realize the options where there at all.
It's way dumbed down.

I'm not even a comics fan and I have a great dork affinity for this series. They remind me of the old TMNT and Simpsons arcade games I loved so much. This new one is the least frills yet. Every character only has 4 powers, which makes them all much more similar to each other. There's virtually no customizing anyone. There's even fewer costumes for them. Also, it's shorter than the old ones, and unlike the last game, which had lots of varied locations (Murderworld, Atlantis, the Skrull planet, etc.) this one is pretty much variations on city streets and dimly lit research bases.

The gameplay is unchanged, so I'm still playing it and enjoying that, but it's no question the worst in the series. Since I don't actually read the comics, the story pretty decent overall.
So it's got less characters and less differentiation?

If they're going to make it less broad, they should make it deeper. So lame.
I'm itching to play this, I have it bought as to take advantage of the free Juggernaut download for the Gamestop pre-order. Now I just need to finally buy an X-Box which I should have by the end of this week.

I loved the first game and the X-Men: Legends series. I poured a lot of hours onto two friends systems playing the first MUA and eventually losing the first save on friend 1's X-Box due to the dreaded Red Rings. 2nd save file on friend 2's X-Box got corrupted and fucked up all my costumes and what not.

I am currently in playthrough 3 for MUA:1 and will finish that up when I get my X-Box and finish MUA:2.

I heard that a different company developed this game, which I guess would explain the changes. I have been a little disheartened to hear of the lesser depth of this game, but I'm sure I'll still have a blast with it as I have always enjoyed these types of games.
I'll have this by Tuesday or Wednesday if anyone wants to co-op.
I'd be happy to play this co-op, but based on my past PSN/XBL experiences, any chewer based gameplay in america or the uk is simply outside my normal australian playing hours. Feel free to send me a friend invite though, because I might be up for some 11 am gaming on weekends.
I've got the PS3 version. My son and I are about 3/4 of the way through the Anti-Reg campaign. I keep forgetting about the Fusion powers until we get beat a couple of times. One thing that's aggravating is that the further you go into the game, the less it seems that there are power-ups.

If I can get in on the action with a PS3, I'll play.
