V (2010)

Scifi + ABC + Elizabeth Mitchell + former Party of Five cast member = success?

It's time for a thread! (surprised Devin didn't start one already, actually)

The trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahjPQ...layer_embedded

looks pretty good. Casting Elizabeth Mitchell as the lead was an excellent choice, and Morena Baccarin as (Di)Anna definitely captures the "I shouldn't be this attracted to a reptile" part of the character. I'm not as sure she can handle the more sinister aspects of that role, but we shall see. Supergirl as an alien recruiter is nice as well.

I'm not going to pretend - I'd be watching the pilot even if the show was done with sock puppets. But the trailer and the cast have me hopeful.

I'll be watching. But someone tell Scott Wolf to squint more. Respect the legacy. Squint Scott squint.
Who's playing Ham Tyler?
Nobody worthy.
Oh noes!!

Nothing says "Remain Calm" like a giant Medi-Scooter operator looking down at you through a few skyscrapers! Sorry, she's no Diana. But if the dramatic twist is that the young human boy get's pregant with an alien baby, I might just be sold on this. Ultimately, I'm with Farsight. I'd be giving this thing a shot despite any red flags short of Frankie Muniz in the lead and a score by Yoko Ono.

The always insightful commenters at youtube are already drawing parallels to Obama's presidential campaign vis-a-vis the visitors sway over humans.

Mustard on his burgers is one thing, but that's certainly not on the level of guinea pigs or parakeets.

I don't mind this new version making certain changes. You wanna ditch the orange jumpsuits? Fine. You don't want all the Visitors wearing Blue Blockers? I'll deal. But I'm really gonna be livid if all the laser guns don't make that kickass "Weeez-Pew!" sound.
As much as I love to see Morena Baccarin in just about anything... I'm just not that into this. Don't get me wrong, I'll DVR but it but begrudgingly.

Paxil: Get Back To Feeling Like You.

The aliens' slogan is Embrace Change, so I think the creators are playing on Obama fear. That and Elizabeth Mitchell are interesting.

It seems to be missing red flags.

Jesus, they really turned it into some sort of Obama fear metaphor? Groan.

Oh and you're going to burn in hell for posting news, etc.

Is that giant head looming over skyscapers suppose to be comforting? You're tipping your hand evil alien lizard people.
Wouldn't it be more efficient to broadcast the signal instead? I mean this way only the people in 29 big cities will get the message. Well maybe they'll show it in the actual show.

I have to say, this trailer made me wanna revisit the original V more than watch this new version.
If you do, Bitches, by all means watch the mini-series and The Final Battle, but skip the TV series. I forgot how terrible it is and how much of what I remember as being the series, is actually The Final Battle.

This actually looks quite good so far, so I'm stoked that they may not have completely raped it. Here's hoping there's at least one decent shuttle chase. And that they recycle the same effects shot 20 times in it.
My friend Scott says this is a Van show... Man, I wish we could get onto that set for a week. I'd drink Mitchells bathwater. Plus, GIANT SPACE INARA!
BEGIN FANBOY/

What?! They changed V's leader from D'anna to Anna?! WTF Shit is this!?!

And she has short hair, not long hair?!

You bastards have raped by childhood! AARGH ERRRCKLE!

I will be watching the new V mini with only one expectation: Willie the turncoat Visitor running around, telling earthlings that he is "just".
I saw the trailer over on AICN. Seems fine.
The sad part is, V already had a reboot\reimagining with Earth: Final Conflict and for the most part, it looks like this will have less of a production value... weak.
Juliet plus mice-eating lizard aliens equals awesome. I'll be there.
Bacarin looks nicely alien in those pics.

Indeed. Dare I say, almost reptillian. *Cues dramatic music*
post #21 of 485
She just doesn't have the same chilling effect as Jane Badler.

I'll end up watching this, though.
I like what I'm seeing so far. So is it going to be a mini-series or a full one? I'm too lazy to find out for myself.
Perhaps, but could you say she has the same wank effect?
Consider me stoked. Haven't seen V in ages, and I expect it just popped up onto a lot of people's Netflix queues.
And somebody better be called "Gooder" or I'm taking my ball and going home.
I'd like to add that although so far Bacarin didn't do much for me, this makes me want to have creepy alien sex with her.

Alien sex might be underwhelming, since it mostly involves running into the corner and masturbating furiously on the egg she laid hours earlier.

And then she dislocates her jaw and eats you (in a bad way).
Well I'm glad we get another sci-fi show after Sarah Chronicles and BSG is gone.
Can't wait for Hannity to proclaim V as the Miniseries that "blows the lid off the Obama Administration!"
So this is going to be an ongoing show? Geez that could get tiresome fast. Also, I need to find out what drug will make my dvd of Final Battle match up with my memories. Stupid reality.

It's intended to be a 13-episode arc (meaning it's a planned story and they won't up it to 22 if it does well). I'm sure they hope to do a bunch more 13-ep arcs though.
Never caught the original,

this looks pretty interesting though. And anything that gives Elizbeth Mitchel and Alan Tudyk work gets my vote.
I think that looks awful.
Are they keeping the theme music? And by that, I mean the awesome theme music from Final Battle?
Looks solid enough but " The V's"? Always thought that was a resistance thing for "Victory". Really digging the whole religion angle though. Much more compelling than the aliens=nazis thing the original miniseries had.

I'm pretty sure it was. This bit in the trailer confused me too. In the original the rebellion spraypainted V for victory on the alien propaganda posters.

These words are marked, CB. But if Rush says it, I'll consider you a profit of DOOM! Doom, I say.
Bump.

Executive produce: So guys, there's no rush but we need to decide what we are going to bring in the first 8 minutes of V, and pick a exciting first shoot...Remember we have a jet going down and kinda expensive FX shoots at hand.

5 seconds later

Production guy #1: Elizabeth Mitchell dressing up.
Exec. : Deal!

I should had posted this one here instead of the humor forum...Spoilers, people!

Exactly, part of the fun of the original series was finding out the aliens were evil lizards. This new series will just be going through the motions. Unless they're like furry ewoks in this version......Yub Nub.
There are 8 minutes of it over there...

Maybe, in this versione WE ARE THE LIZARDS! WE WERE THE LIZARDS ALL ALONG!
I just want some crazy shut in, gun toting, conspiracy theorizing rednecks to bring the whole thing down.

That would be hilarious. That would be worth watching.

Of the roughly 20 hours they produced of the original V, only about 2 took place before we knew they were lizards. So while it was a great reveal, the original wasn't centered around 'the twist'.

Well, it is coming from the the Disney/ABC megaconglomernetstudiowork. I can imagine at least a good helping of this. All to the chest-swelling music of The Biggest Loser weigh-in!
Just added it to the Tivo. I'm hoping it's at least entertaining. I remember reading the follow up V books back when I was in high school and that was the last time I really thought about the series.

So far, so bogstandard. Though the Jet crash was both nicely shot and incredibly redundant.

And you could fairly argue the original was all downhill once the reveal was made.
