I was very excited to see the American Reunion movie. I saw American Pie just after college and remembered it was quite funny.
Jim, Michelle, Oz, Heather, Stifler reunite for their high school...
Looks good, but I am a fan of the customization in racing games. More Midnight Club than Gran Turismo customizing though. GT just goes way too overboard for me. The graphics look amazing, if that is in fact the game's engine.
I'm pretty sure it's like comparing Ace Combat to Flight Sim when you start comparing GT to this. It's competing with Burnout, which is certainly brave.
Which is why it's unfortunate, since this trailer makes this look less attractive than Burnout, which is getting on a bit now (and still looks great) - but is far from photorealistic, and that's apparently one of the goals here.
It's competition for a game that refuses to age and literally defines "fun driving".
It looks OK, but I really don't need multiple arcade-y racers. I'd take Burnout for my ridiculous crashes and speed, Motorstorm for off-road hijinks, and Forza or GT for my driving sim.
I just read that Blur is using licensed cars, which shocks me. Typically any "car combat" game has no chance in hell using the licensed cars. I can't wait to explode a Camaro or Civic.
The licenses just cost a wad of money, which is where most devs save a lot of cash. Most manufacturers dont have a problem with it - it's just the prestige brands who generally say no.
There's a beta hitting early next week, and I got codes! I've got plenty in fact- 250 of the suckers! So what I'm going to do is post a bunch on the site and give away the rest to anyone who pms me asking for one. Just so I make sure you guys don't have to keep trying codes. Give me a minute to get up the article.
I took 3DNL-P24W-H4WH-639D. Was gonna post in the talkback but it's not working at the moment.
Haven't played a decent racing game in AGES (actually, the last one I really enjoyed was one of the Burnouts for the original XBOX). Looking forward to test driving (yuk yuk) this one!
Sorry, man. If they were doing a PS3 beta I would have asked them for codes for both. But codes being sent left and right! I'm trying to take off the ones people have claimed and put new ones on the site, but we'll see.
Also- you guys know what this means, right? Blur Chewer match, Monday night. Let's set it up Monday after we see the codes get sent out.
Shit, I'll play some Blur on Monday. I can be on 10:30 central.
Now, is this actually coming out for PS3? It's the dudes what made Project Gotham and Geo Wars. Those are both serious 360 games. Well, wait. Did The Club come out for PS3?
This was opened to FilePlanet subscribers (and people who forgot to cancel their FilePlanet subscription, *cough*) this week so I've been trying this out since Tuesday. It's almost literally the love child of Mario Kart and Burnout. The carnage at the beginning of a 20-car race is ridiculous.
It looks and controls great and frankly looks ready to ship to me. Since it splits the difference between MK's wackiness and Burnout's breakneck speed it feels like it's missing a little somethin' somethin' from both franchises--there are only four tracks in the beta so I'm hoping a few of the other 26 have some crazier shit going on in them.
But it also nicely balances the anything-can-happen charm of these games with, you know, actual skill. Since there's no random item placement there's a lot more skill and strategy involved than in MK.
For a Mario-Kart-with-real-cars arcade thing, this is enjoyable. It's really easy to pick up. Not to sound like Billy Warlock, but getting Shunted sucks.
I really love this game. Unfortunately, I won't be able to play at all tonight till much later (past midnight EST) but if people can't make that I'm down to play tomorrow or Wednesday. Just let me know.
It's more similar to Mario Kart than you'd expect, though. For instance, you can fire weapons behind you by pulling backwards, throw mines ahead of you by holding up. Also, it makes you deeply hate each person that messes with you.
The 20 player races are a blast. Only problem is that if you get started off in the back of the pack its extremely hard to work your way up.
Also I'm not sure if there is one, but the game really needs a better way to identify who your friends are on the track. I would gladly hold off on using a weapon on some random person if I had a chance to use it on someone I knew.
I was able to check this out the other night (Thanks Alex!), and I had fun with it. I found it to be especially great when you are caught in the middle of a large pack of cars setting off as many power-ups as possible. The resulting mayhem was literally and figuratively a "blast". I also liked how the matchmaking system kept things moving along at a nice pace, making sure you spent most of your time in the races.
I wasn't going to get this game, but now I'm considering it. I'm still leaning more towards Split/Second at this point, but I'll have to try that game out to see how it actually plays.
oooohhh shiiiiit, this game is pretty awesome. I am the king of leading the race for 2 1/4 laps then getting blasted into the stone age. I still need to learn what all the weapon icons mean.
There is also a screen somewhere in the menus that tells you what they are, but I pretty much learned the icons just by playing several matches. I think the icons are very well-designed. They pretty much look exactly like their function. For instance, the mine icon looks like half a spiky ball, and the boost icon is a bunch of green triangles pointing upward to indicate speed.
