First screens and teaser trailer. I like what I see so far....

It does look pretty nice.
If/when I get my 360 back, I'd love to get a go at this one. Looks nice.

Hear hear! Gran Turismo can go to hell! Burnout Forever!

I want to play Blur now.
Looks good, but I am a fan of the customization in racing games. More Midnight Club than Gran Turismo customizing though. GT just goes way too overboard for me. The graphics look amazing, if that is in fact the game's engine.
I'm pretty sure it's like comparing Ace Combat to Flight Sim when you start comparing GT to this. It's competing with Burnout, which is certainly brave.

Which is why it's unfortunate, since this trailer makes this look less attractive than Burnout, which is getting on a bit now (and still looks great) - but is far from photorealistic, and that's apparently one of the goals here.

It's competition for a game that refuses to age and literally defines "fun driving".

Bless 'em for trying though.
It looks OK, but I really don't need multiple arcade-y racers. I'd take Burnout for my ridiculous crashes and speed, Motorstorm for off-road hijinks, and Forza or GT for my driving sim.
I just read that Blur is using licensed cars, which shocks me. Typically any "car combat" game has no chance in hell using the licensed cars. I can't wait to explode a Camaro or Civic.
The licenses just cost a wad of money, which is where most devs save a lot of cash. Most manufacturers dont have a problem with it - it's just the prestige brands who generally say no.

New trailer hit yesterday - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DnKUqPc2W8

Liking what I'm seeing even more...

Pretty sexy...

Makes me want to 'shunt' some people!
Alex's piece on this said the game would be coming out in the fall. Is that still the case?
I was hoping the Shunt powerup would be something totally different.

They just released this bizarre Youtube mashup to promote the game- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FSREsuTQSQ

Wow, I thought we were mostly done with the fall delays.
I'm glad for the delays. It means I have fewer games I want to buy this fall, and more time to enjoy them.
Wow, 2010 is gonna be one game packed year! I'm semi-interested in this game but I think I prefer split-second.
I hope some of the first quarter 2010 games get delayed at this point.

I'm delighted about the splitscreen. The latest Burnout really should have had that.
The first thing I thought when I saw that trailer was "It's a Kart Racer"

While I'm all for car combat games I was hoping this to be more like Burnout than a power up extravaganza like the Wipeout or Mario Kart games.

There's a beta hitting early next week, and I got codes! I've got plenty in fact- 250 of the suckers! So what I'm going to do is post a bunch on the site and give away the rest to anyone who pms me asking for one. Just so I make sure you guys don't have to keep trying codes. Give me a minute to get up the article.

PS: should we mention on the forums which code we take or PM them to you so everyone knows which ones are gone? If so, I took RVWL-4H49-KFMY-UAGE
post #26 of 55
I took 3DNL-P24W-H4WH-639D. Was gonna post in the talkback but it's not working at the moment.

Haven't played a decent racing game in AGES (actually, the last one I really enjoyed was one of the Burnouts for the original XBOX). Looking forward to test driving (yuk yuk) this one!
Hey Alex, I sent you a PM. This game actually sounds like fun!
Xbox only!? Argh! Thanks anyway, Alex! Sounds cool.

Sorry, man. If they were doing a PS3 beta I would have asked them for codes for both. But codes being sent left and right! I'm trying to take off the ones people have claimed and put new ones on the site, but we'll see.

Also- you guys know what this means, right? Blur Chewer match, Monday night. Let's set it up Monday after we see the codes get sent out.
I used PN4T-MT4Q-HXX4-P46Z

Thanks for the code. I tried posted in the comments, but it wouldn't let me.

Back to lurking, I guess.
Shit, I'll play some Blur on Monday. I can be on 10:30 central.

Now, is this actually coming out for PS3? It's the dudes what made Project Gotham and Geo Wars. Those are both serious 360 games. Well, wait. Did The Club come out for PS3?
This was opened to FilePlanet subscribers (and people who forgot to cancel their FilePlanet subscription, *cough*) this week so I've been trying this out since Tuesday. It's almost literally the love child of Mario Kart and Burnout. The carnage at the beginning of a 20-car race is ridiculous.

It looks and controls great and frankly looks ready to ship to me. Since it splits the difference between MK's wackiness and Burnout's breakneck speed it feels like it's missing a little somethin' somethin' from both franchises--there are only four tracks in the beta so I'm hoping a few of the other 26 have some crazier shit going on in them.

But it also nicely balances the anything-can-happen charm of these games with, you know, actual skill. Since there's no random item placement there's a lot more skill and strategy involved than in MK.
For a Mario-Kart-with-real-cars arcade thing, this is enjoyable. It's really easy to pick up. Not to sound like Billy Warlock, but getting Shunted sucks.

Anybody gotten their beta tokens yet?

Yeah, received mine at 4:40. I was checking all morning and had forgotten all about it until I read your message.

The download is 1.44 GB so make some room if you have to.

Impressions. http://chud.com/articles/articles/22...ETA/Page1.html

I really love this game. Unfortunately, I won't be able to play at all tonight till much later (past midnight EST) but if people can't make that I'm down to play tomorrow or Wednesday. Just let me know.
How have i not heard of this game? It looks fantastic!
I know why everybody immediately references Mario Kart when it comes to weapon-enhanced racing, but my mind always goes directly to RC Pro-Am.

It's more similar to Mario Kart than you'd expect, though. For instance, you can fire weapons behind you by pulling backwards, throw mines ahead of you by holding up. Also, it makes you deeply hate each person that messes with you.

Having so much fun smashing up Zombie Fever every time I see him. This game will form life-long grudges!
Hey, I just sent you an e-mail asking for a code, and I said my Gamertag's jackspades22 -- I meant my forums name.

...although my Gamertag is also jackspades22.

Edit: If you've got over 100 codes, may I have one for a friend of mine too? :3

Edit 2: This is the very first I've heard of this awesome-sounding game, I sincerely hope I'm not too late
post #43 of 55
Thanks again for the code, Alex. Looking forward to smashing into you guys in the next few days.
Played it.

Liking it.

Definitely the most fun I've had racing since Burnout Revenge.

20 car races are fucking INSANE.
The 20 player races are a blast. Only problem is that if you get started off in the back of the pack its extremely hard to work your way up.

Also I'm not sure if there is one, but the game really needs a better way to identify who your friends are on the track. I would gladly hold off on using a weapon on some random person if I had a chance to use it on someone I knew.
Not like I need another goddamn game vying for my free time, but this sounds like its right up my alley. Got any more of those codes left, Alex?
I was able to check this out the other night (Thanks Alex!), and I had fun with it. I found it to be especially great when you are caught in the middle of a large pack of cars setting off as many power-ups as possible. The resulting mayhem was literally and figuratively a "blast". I also liked how the matchmaking system kept things moving along at a nice pace, making sure you spent most of your time in the races.

I wasn't going to get this game, but now I'm considering it. I'm still leaning more towards Split/Second at this point, but I'll have to try that game out to see how it actually plays.
oooohhh shiiiiit, this game is pretty awesome. I am the king of leading the race for 2 1/4 laps then getting blasted into the stone age. I still need to learn what all the weapon icons mean.
There is also a screen somewhere in the menus that tells you what they are, but I pretty much learned the icons just by playing several matches. I think the icons are very well-designed. They pretty much look exactly like their function. For instance, the mine icon looks like half a spiky ball, and the boost icon is a bunch of green triangles pointing upward to indicate speed.
