This news makes me all tingly inside. Didn't expect another game so soon.

It looks a little like a rail shooter.

I'll take it!
If it's an FPS not on rails game, super excited.
I'd certainly prefer to see an entirely new take on the game. If it means going on rails, i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Especially since it looks rather polished.

Yep rails (Joystiq):

Quote:
Update: Worried this might be an on-rails light gun shooter? According to Steve Papoutsis, the game's executive producer, that's exactly what you're going to get. He told IGN that Extraction "takes advantage of a guided and cinematic camera" – IGN translates, calling it "an on-rails first-person shooter in the style of House of the Dead: Overkill." But Papoutsis is quick to point out that "Extraction is not your typical Rail Shooter. [EA's] goal is to innovate and push the genre forward." We loved Dead Space, but consider us thoroughly skeptical. Thanks, guttertalk.

Looks like I'm not getting Dead Space for the Wii.
I'm a sucker for rail shooters. The wife and I loved Overkill and Umbrella Chronicles, so we'll be playing this one way or another.
Rail Shooters definitely have their audience. I love them and they're great for people who don't typically get into games like we do (I also look forward to playing this, and the new House of the dead, with my wife)... But then again, I can see where some folks are definitely going to be disappointed in this news. But it works for me!

Getting my wife to play Dead Space as an on rails shooter... Easy!

Getting my wife to play Dead Space on the PS3... Not so easy, no matter how good it is.

Sent out feelers to my EA peeps but they can't say anything just yet. Hope to have some more details on it soon...
They'll probably come through for you in the end. Seems they've treated you pretty well for the most part so far.
The world needs more lightgun games.

The world does not need any more Far Cry-esque godawful FPS ports to the Wii.

Game will probably look really good for the Wii.

Rail shooters can be great light entertainment. If I saw a cool rail shooter pop on PSN or Live for $10, I'd jump on it, but I don't know how crazy I'd be about dropping $60 on one.

Still, I liked Dead Space well enough, and I'm interested in seeing what they meant by "push[ing] the genre forward."

When did Wii games go to sixty bucks?

It'll be $50 at most, possibly $40 if the light gun gods smile upon us.

And Overkill is owning my Ass right now! Sweet sweet Grindhouse Zombie Action!
Or $50.
Well, the best news out of this is that now I can 100 percent say that I will be getting Dead Space on the 360. For some reason, I kept toying with the notion to buy it on the Wii to give that little white box some more, non-Mario related love, but now, sold!
I can't say I'm enthralled with thidea of another on-rails shooter for the Wii. But this should be an interesting entry into the genre. Dead Space seems to get a lot of love.

Why? Frankly, without one-for-one movement, it seems like the most appealing thing about the wiimote.
I hope, to FUCK, this ISN'T based on 'Downfall'.
It's not like the first Dead Space came across as extremely innovative on paper either. I'm all for giving the guys the benefit of the doubt on this one considering how great the Xbox 360 version was.

Its the on-rails part that is disappointing. But I will concede that the developers might actually have a great game on their hands. I just want to know if the decision was made due to creative/technical reasons, or if it was a "Gee, Umbrella Chronicles and Link's Crossbow Training sold well. Wii owners must love on-rails shooters!" You know, that me-too thing.

My dreamcast lightgun is no longer compatible with a single t.v. in my house, so I may soon get a Wii just for on-rails shooters if this turns out great and two or more good ones show up.
A game's quality is always more important than genre.

The lack of support here from most of you because it's "on-rails" is misunderstanding what the "casual gaming" market (Only Wii-owning people) wants.

They want something they can pick up and play in doses. With friends. This concept looks ideal for that and it looks amazing for a Wii game.

Don't get me wrong. I want to play this and HOTD:Overkill, but I'm personally more stoked about The Conduit and Madworld. (And I'm probably more psyched than I should be for New Play Control Metroid Prime.)

Where my Dead Space fans at? I thought more people would be interested to know that they did a good job on this one. If you have any questions I'll do my best to get answers.
If I still had my Wii I'd be all over this. Glad to know it's coming along pretty awesomely.
On rails shooters is what the Wii needs. Umbrella Chronicles was the most fun I had with my system when I still had it.

and the way they implemented secondary fire for each weapon is ingenious- you simply turn the remote sideways gangster-style.
That's so ingenious and awesome. When I'm unemployed in a month, I will have to play the original in anticipation of this.

That's pretty much all I was expecting from this demo- another silly, simple on-rails game. Loved that they're going for more than that which is good, because I was let down by HOTD: Overkill and there's that Umbrella Chronicles sequel coming to fill in the silly side of horror.

And I'm telling you guys, just shooting the necromorphs with the remote is so much fun. As cool and easy as it is in the original game there's something so awesome when you're able to just aim and blow off limbs yourself.
And the fact the graphics are looking that good, makes me wish I still had my system. May have to talk the pops into picking this up for his system.
This sounds pretty good. I never picked up the first game, mostly because I found the demo really frustrating, but I'll probably pick this one up pretty quick after release. There are actually a lot of Wii games I'm interested in. I didn't think that would ever really happen.
Gravedigger, the demo is pretty bad. I don't know why they choose to throw you in the middle of a stage with all the enemies coming at you. Playing from the start is a much better 'experience', and that's the best thing the game has going for it.
Yeah, Grave... get on it. Dead Space is brilliant, and I think it'd be right up your alley.

As for Extraction, I can't wait. I need a good Wii game. Well, punch out's good, but I need more Dead Space.
If I were to get any on-rails shooter for the Wii, it'd be this one fer sure.
I'm pretty excited 'bout this one. DEAD SPACE was pretty terrifying, and the Wii needs a dose of good horror material.

I actually sat through the whole E3 18 min demo posted on IGN. The game looks amazing, far more immersive than what I thought was capable with an on-rails shooter.

Five chapters in and I'm completely in love with this game. One thing I absolutely didn't expect was how story-driven the beginning of the game is. It starts off slow and has some great voice acting and animation on the lead characters, getting you familiar with them before sending you all to hell. Pretty cool to see some of the events that they only talked about before.

Now the game's becoming much more balls-out action, and while it started off fairly mild it's getting creepier and creepier.

Can't wait to try co-op this weekend, either. Dead Space fans will definitely be pleased with this one.
Good to hear. I read the IGN review earlier, but I'm not too trusting of them after they overrated the shit out of Wii games like The Conduit, and still say Medal of Honor Heroes 2 is a great game(other than the controls that game is ass).

I have a big soft spot for House of the Dead: Overkill, and "light gun" games, I might have to check this out.

Oh goodie goodie goodie goodie! I am so looking forward to having a reason to press my Wii's power button. I might sig that.

Yeah, this is easily the best game of the year so far for the Wii. One of the top Wii exclusives ever, in fact. The voice acting and story is actually pretty fantastic- way better than the original Dead Space's (which wasn't really all that, of course). But you'll actually care about these characters and they do some interesting things with the way they tell the story, and combat never gets old. It's nearly all great.

One problem though- it's not that scary. You'd think that for a game that controls what you see and when you see it they would have done a little better with it, but for the most part it's pretty tame. It does get hectic and does a great job of getting you nervous when the necromorphs get too close and you start to run out on ammo, but there are no real scares.

Full review tomorrow!
I tried to rent this based on Alex's ravings. Not out yet, so I'll try again next week. The game trailers videos are AWESOME. Very cinematic and very character based seemingly, unlike the typical light gun shooter.
Is there co-op? Don't have a Wii, but actually want to play this ...

Yep, jump-in jump-out two player co-op.
What's a used Wii going for now? 50 bucks?
I really want to pick this up tomorrow. I love that universe.
Well, I'm certainly not a man of my word. I have not picked up Dead Space for the 360 (Batman and a host of others have occupied my time on that system) and while it's not a definite, there is a chance I will be getting Dead Space: Extraction very soon. My question is: do I need to know the ins and outs of the first game to fully appreciate this one?
The less you know about the original game's dumb-ass story, the better. And I'm not making a jackass statement against the first game: not knowing anything about the backstory might actually make it scarier.
