Dead Space: Extraction - Page 2

It's not a dumb story, it's just the way it's told to you in the first game. It's handled much better here, and while you experience some events that are only mentioned in the game or comics, you won't need any previous knowledge to enjoy it. It brings you through the whole thing.

Got done with a ton of co-op right now and it's so much fun with a friend, although it's not exactly the kind of game you can immediately play through again. Those challenge modes are a blast, but it kinda sucks that there's no online leaderboards or any more unlockables to encourage you to play through them all.

Here are some just-released trailers-

Instead of fucking around with motion control shit, how about the Xbox 360 or PS3 create a fucking light gun. Or, if a light gun is too non-pc, something that looks like the wiimote that serves the same purpose.

I now have no televisions compatible with my dreamcast light gun, and I need my fix.

No. It's a dumb mishmash of popular horror, sci-fi, and game story tropes orbiting around a faceless and silent hero. It's the only game I recommend based solely on its sound design, which is amazing.

Great review Alex. I kinda want to kill humans.

I will definitely be picking this up. Question: support for MotionPlus or no?

Nope. No need, really... it's just a lightgun game that makes you shake the remote every once in a while.

Word. It sounded like there might have been some finesse involved, and now I realize: this isn't surgery, we're hacking limbs off with abandon.

Exactly. The only thing that might have benefited from 1:1 controls is the Ripper, but you'll likely be waving it around like crazy when they get too damn close anyway.

Can't wait to play through this again when friends come over, but I really, really wish there were some online leaderboards or something on this, though. Those challenge modes are a lot of fun but I can't see trying to beat my own high score.

Love this game already. I found the the multitasking required at the end of level 2 to be tense.

The Dead Space franchise is two for two. What a fantastic game.

Since cinematics are such a big part of the game(and in first person?), I have to ask, are they skippable? Do they crush the replay value dead if you're trying to top high scores(something I LOVE about HotD: Overkill)?

I might have to take advantage of the Toys R Us sale this week and pick this up. I'm at a loss for a 3rd game at the moment though.

The thing is it's not a shooting gallery experience in the classic sense. The cinematic thing is a big part of the impressive nature of the presentation.
I realize it's not like something like House of the Dead, bu I'm asking if the cinematic nature kills the replay value. I got the impression from Alex's review that it might. And can you skip them?

Too chime in with this cinematic stuff, Is the game old folk friendly?

My Dad has a Wii and loved the Medal Of Honor games. He introduced me to The Thing and I would love to show him this game. I don't want him to get bogged down by lengthy cut scenes but i also don't want him to get too challenged by the gameplay.

No, you can't skip the cinematic stuff. Think of it like Halflife 2.

Does any one know how I can switch out my current weapons for on the ropes ones?

They aren't cinematics in the traditional sense- the story all happens real-time in the gameplay. So yeah, it does somewhat kill the replay value. I know I'll go back and play the game completely through again in a year, like I did with Dead Space, but you won't want to jump right back into it.

Really, the challenge levels are the only thing you'll go back to, but thankfully there are 10 of them and they've fairly robust.

Thanks guys. I picked this up with the Toys R Us sale last night, I'll dive in tomorrow, no doubt.

Did anyone else experience any problems trying to play through this? Things like characters staring at walls, a player not being able to shoot, or the dialogue just randomly dropping out?

It all started going to hell for me around Chapter 6 or 7, when you're the botanist who finds Lexine and you have to take off the necromorph's shoulders. It's really pissing me off and makes me wish I'd never spent the $50.
