That storyline honestly doesn't sound very exciting. I wonder what new features they will be adding for this one.
Vice City 2! Can't wait to hear about all the new "gameplay possibilities".
THE LOST AND THE DAMNED sounded so fucking generic.

THE BALLAD OF GAY TONY? Umm, quite the opposite. I kind of love it.
Ballsy name. More dicks in this one? I hope so.
I thought the undercover female agent was going to get a side story. A female lead character in a GTA game? That's ballsy.

Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing for a while now. That story thread doesn't get nearly the closure I wanted. Would've even settled for Michelle staking out Niko's wedding, or calling after the final mission.
Whilst their storytelling abilities have been proven, there's still the remaining issue of gameplay - doesn't sound like they're going to be offering anything radically different yet again.

Then again, it's more of the same - which will certainly keep plenty of people happy.
Thought the same thing about the homophobic trend in Xbox live players. What will think about working for a fag? Ha. This sounds pretty cool, though I agree a DLC with a female "protagonist" would be interesting. Maybe the next one?
I don't see the racist, homophobic, COD4-playing gamers buying an expansion pack called "The Ballad of Gay Tony". Are those people still Rockstar's bread and butter and if so does Rockstar hate money?

It's a shame, if so. This makes me regret selling GTA 4 way more than Lost and the Damned ever did.
No, but Rockstar loves pushing buttons. It's what it's all about.
Even if this DLC had the most hardcore gay sex known to man in it, it'd still sell like you wouldn't believe.

Aside from people playing it and not caring about the subject matter - just wanting more GTA, there would be a hefty chunk of that audience who were just in it out of curiosity.

Just did a quick search on twitter to see people's kneejerk reactions. Glad I did.

nearly gagged on my food as I read the title of the new GTA4 DLC: The Ballad of Gay Tony....WTF? LOL

the next GTA DLC is..."The Ballad of Gay Tony"....seriously Rockstar?! SERIOUSLY?!

"The Ballad of Gay Tony".....You cant be serious..(headshake)

I just hope to god that you dont actually play as Gay Tony.....

Could be, maybe the whole thing is some giant scheme to remove the large group of people that miss the point of GTA. The kind of people that laugh with Archie Bunker and not at. And with those morons no longer considered GTA fans, the franchise retains its integrity and has artistic freedom to do whatever it wants.

Only kidding, of course.

Anything that irritates homophobic gamers = good.

Somewhere, Jack Thompson's head is exploding. And this is a good thing.
Has Jack Thompson ever made any homophobic statements? The fucker seems like the type, but I don't recall anything specific.
As a 360 owner, who does all his online gaming on the ps3 and isn't connected to live, the DLC coming out on a disc is a good thing.

Can't say I'm super psyched to revisit the GTAIV world again (Its my fav GTA but its still far from perfect) but if the disc is decently priced, I'll pick it up.
The first DLC was about 10 hours worth of gameplay, right? Wonder how much they'll pack in this one.

He bitched about gay content in Rockstar's Bully.
Oh right. Christ I hope this game gets as much bad/inaccurate press as Bully. It would sell like crazy despite the haters.

40 bucks for GTA: Episodes. Thought I had included it in the article, sorry bout that... updated it.
The nice thing about the DLC stuff coming out on disc is that you'll be able to find a non publisher-price fixed version somewhere. Maybe I'd pick it up used for $20 or something.
this is gonna be fabulous!!1!

And good call on having it on disk too, 1.2gig and beyond isn't the easiest thing to download when you have broadband speeds that aren't exactly setting the world alight.

sale +1
Yeah, I'm most excited about the disc release too. I don't have enough space on my HDD for the first episode let alone a second. I'll be picking that disc up for sure.
I hope they add some new gameplay elements. I loved Lost and Damned, but I hope for something new. Love that Rockstar is going to be the company pushing a gay character into the gaming mainstream. If only Shadow Hearts had been more successful.

This is what I was thinking, you'll only need to wait a couple of months after release for it to drop too. Love those bargains.
I downloaded lost and the dammed but really didn't enjoy it that much.

It's going to take something interesting to convince me its worth downloading this.
So just how many hours of Gameplay did you guys get outta Lost and Damned?

I know one person said 10 hours, which ain't bad I guess. But I do remember thinking that GTA4 was a bit short compared to Vice City and San Andreas.
It took me 22 hours to do everything in the Lost and Damned and GTAIV took me the good part of 60 hours to complete. I actually know a lot of people who never finished the game because it was TOO LONG.
Pussies!

I mean to do everything I wanted to do until the end of the game I think I took 50 hours and if I can get about 20 hours outta each episode that's great.

But I still miss all of the shit that San Andreas had. I spent 88 "official" hours with that game if remember correctly.

There we go.
Not to bring up the old argument, but I agree with the "fix" by Scott. I never finished GTA because I got fucking bored. SR2 on the other hand was beaten and still gets play on the old 360. I'm glad they are releasing these on disc, as I refuse to go and buy GTA again.
Don't start Spike off on how much he hates GTA4. It's gettin' old!
I'm never going to stop having this argument am I?

I really don't see how the missions in GTA were anymore repetitive than any other game. They were going for a deliberate style and ethos change with GTA 4 and it meant that instead of slapping a coat of paint onto San Andreas they actually tried to do something different and create an open world game dictated by your characters relationship with the city and the NPCs.

Also if you wanted San Andreas II you could always play Saints Row II.
Haha, nope. Not getting into this again.

I hope they introduce even more sex toys as weapons.

Exactly how I feel.

"COUSIN NIKO, PLEASE COME PLAY WITH DARTS WITH ME .... COUSIN NIKO, WHY WON'T YOU RETURN MY CALLS" ....

Fuck GTA. Still loving Saints Row 2.

I went on exactly six man-dates with Roman and never, ever, got called out to meet him. I have no idea how he became so infuriatingly persistent for some of you guys.

It wasn't until I read the way to get around all of the dates (accept their date, then call them back immediately and cancel which keeps you from losing any level with them) that I was able to enjoy the game. Roman stopped calling pretty quickly once I started that strategy too. The problem was taking him out when he asks and then he just got needier somehow. More than a few times I'd drop somebody off from a date only to have my phone ring with somebody else asking to go out.
I made the mistake of clicking on a thread about this on the XBL forums. Hoo boy.

this is a double standard . we cannot type anything in our motto or bio that has word *** in it but they can post and create a game with a *** tony. thats wrong. if they dont want us to do it and we are the consumers and consumers are always to be right , then they shouldnt publish a game made with that title either. i dissagree with the title and impication they are making here . just wrong .
If you actually call Roman after every half dozen or so missions you have a chat with him and it seemed to count as a 'date'.
The "thats wrong" part killed me.

The difference is that Microsoft doesn't know how someone will abuse the word "gay" in their profile. They don't have to worry about that with Rockstar or any other developer thanks to reputation/ESRB.

Did the poster have his location viewable? I'd love to see where this retard is from.
Nope, no information in his bio. 42K gamerscore, though...

Grand Theft Auto IV' journey will end with a bang
By Mike Snider, USA TODAY

Rockstar Games' grand epic Grand Theft Auto IV writes its final chapter Oct. 29. And the action is as over-the-top as the title: The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Available via download exclusively for owners of the Xbox 360 version of the game ($20, and like all GTA titles, for mature audiences), this second and last add-on episode focuses on Luis Lopez, Dominican-born second-in-command to nightclub magnate Gay Tony. The drug-addled Tony, losing a grip on his empire, puts Luis in dangerous circumstances in an attempt to retain his power.

"Luis has to do some of these favors and see if he can get them out of debt," says Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games and lead writer of the episode. "The situation with Tony's drug problems gets worse and worse, and Tony gets more and more out of control."

The events happen at the same time as those in GTAIV, which has sold more than 14 million copies worldwide since its release in April 2008 (for Xbox and PS3). It focused on the "coming to America-type story" of former Eastern European soldier Niko Bellic in Liberty City.

The first downloadable episode, The Lost and the Damned, released in February, focused on Johnny Klebitz, a member of biker gang The Lost. It and Gay Tony remain Xbox 360 exclusives. Both also will be out Oct. 29 on a $40 GTA: Episodes From Liberty City disc that can be played without the original game.

"I know, as a consumer, I'm more comfortable buying songs, which are almost like playing a jukebox, than I am buying movies as purely digital items," Houser says. "We all feel that way, so we can surely get more people to experience it if we put it on a disc."

Packed with action set pieces à la films such as Mission: Impossible and Bad Boys, Gay Tony has Luis at one point parachuting from a helicopter onto a glass-windowed skyscraper. Inside he blasts his way to his prey a few floors below and shoots his target, who then topples out of the bullet-ridden window. Luis dives out after him, wearing a parachute that glides him to safety.

In another scene, Luis drops on to the top of a moving subway train from a bridge and unhooks one of the cars for a maniacal high-rolling collector of one-of-a-kind artifacts. A Skyhook chopper airlifts the freed subway car away.

Luis is "a man of action," torn between friends and family "and this drive for wealth and power," says Rockstar's Bruce Dugan. "The higher you climb in Liberty City, the wealthier your social circle and the crazier they usually are because they have become corrupted."

Gay Tony's cast of out-of-control characters allowed Houser and the game designers to get in touch with their inner Michael Bay. "We definitely wanted it to feel more like the way action films are when they get ridiculous," says Houser.

"Suddenly you're lifting up train cars with helicopters and it looks amazing and ridiculous, and after what you've gone through in the past, you're like, 'wow, this is a really good payoff for completing this journey.' "
