Living in L.A. without a car?

Is it possible? I have a week to decide whether or not to go to USC law but I'm worried about my quality of life in L.A. relying on public transportation.

Yes. Where will you be living?

I would probably try to live on campus or near it. I'm aware it's not the best of neighborhoods.

It isn't. But the campus itself is pretty safe.

Congrats on into getting into USC Law school. My dad went there.

Its possible if you have a friend or roommate with a car and are willing to just go wherever they go. Otherwise no.

You might look in to buying a scooter.

Yea, it's an option. I'll probably get killed on the road though.

My friend's been hit twice now on his Scooter. Both times not his fault, so keep in mind the crazy-ass drivers that live here.

It is possible to get around on public transportation, but you'll have to leave about 1-3 hour(s) early to get to your destination. Depending on where you are going, you'll have to transfer several times to different lines. It's a tedious, slow, fucking painful process. That is, unless you're on campus, then there's shuttles and people getting knifed in the streets...

I can only speak for The Valley and the answer is pretty much a "NO". Unless, as pointed out, you have a spare four hours every day.

It's not fun. Not impossible by any stretch. but definitely not fun.

Buy a small and reliable used car?
I bought a car for only $1500 when I first moved out here, and it lasted a year and a half before self-destructing.
By self-destructing, did it just die or explode in a ball of flame?

Speaking as someone who has been hit once and run off the road once on his motorcycle, this is probably not your best option.

Get a shitty car if you can. I went with public transportation for a while and while I admit you can get to where you want to go, be prepared for it to take forever and a day for you to get there.

The engine died, and it would have cost more than I paid for the entire car to fix.

On my motorcycle I had no one, but two people do U turns right in front of me with in one week once. He did say no cars though. If you do go the two wheel way get something with enough speed to get you away from cars if you need to, at less a 250 or better, depending on how much you weight.

I don't know how you define 'failed' but at this point in his life, Slater fits none of those possible definitions.

So the consensus seems to be that without a car life will, at the very least, be rough. Thank you for those who responded with sincerity.
