Del Tha Funkee Homosapien - Eleventh Hour

So, I finally got my wish fulfilled and Del put out a new solo album last year, and damn is he ever bored with the traditional hip-hop thing. He phones it in from start to finish, which is disappointing but kind of understandable - to him, still doing standard rap must be like Einstein in grade school; his style & flow is so transcendent he's leagues above and beyond the typical hip-hop rabble.

I just hope his involvement with Dan the Automator on a new Deltron album reinvigorates him and gives him the proper next level to work in.

I don't have this album, but I heard "Bubble Pop," and actually saw him perform shortly before the album was released. The guy is great in the studio, and I love his work, but that show was pretty lackluster. Given, he was going on last on a weeknight, too much of the crowd had already gone home, and he'd just gotten off a delayed, cross-country flight... It was fun to see him, but it was something of a letdown.

I'll be with you in hoping that a new Deltron album happens and blows our minds apart. 3030 is AMAZING.

I heard "Bubble Pop" and "Workin' It" off the new album, and I'm definitely going to pick up the album eventually. I agree that his style and flow is head and heels above the shit that typically passes for hip hop these days (read: Asher Roth) but - and this could just be me - doesn't he seem so much less animated on his tracks lately? Lyrics are great. Beats are fantastic. Just missing some of that old pep. Maybe it's just an age thing and not a contempt for modern hip hop thing. Kind of like Busta Rhymes. But more talented.

And yes, 3030 IS amazing!

Edit: Have you guys heard his latest mixtape? I take everything I said about his lack of energy BACK. http://delthefunkyhomosapien.bandcamp.com/ (Check out those download options!)

Yeah, see, that's what I was getting at - he sounds really bored on this one.

Thanks for the link on that new mix-tape - I'm checking it out as we speak.

EDIT - yeeaahhh, this is more like it.

Right?? It may just be me, but I'm really starting to find that mixtapes are a lot better than most albums these days. Recently, mixtapes from guys like Colin Munroe, Drake, and now Del have been sounding a lot better than most albums I've heard. I guess it's totally different when you're making music for the sake of making music as opposed to making music for money.

11th hour was kind of bland. not horrible but felt like it was missing something except for maybe a couple tracks. They were better live when I caught him last spring though.
