I'm not trying to start anything, it's just something that seems to me to be a pretty reliable constant. A lot of conservatives have a deep psychological need to paint themselves as the David vs. an all-powerful Goliath. Even circa 2004, when they controlled damn near everything, you had the vast left-wing conspiracy looming over everything they talked about.
And the media! If there's one thing the Republicans could do to improve their image, it would be to stop blaming everyone else for their problems. Is the media sometimes unfair to the right? Absolutely, but that isn't due to philosophy. To apply a single ideology to something as complicated as "the media" betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of it. The media is on the media's side, no one else's. Fox may stump for the GOP, but that's only because their interests frequently align. If it feels the need, Fox will turn against part or all of the GOP for the benefit of Fox.
To constantly blame everything on some liberal Skynet makes them look downright whiny... even when they have a point. Politics is by it's nature is unfair, and to pretend you've never used the news to your advantage is beyond myopic. If the "we're not gonna take it anymore!" attitude of the teabaggers seems odd, it's because they don't view Obama's victory as real change. They think the libs have always been in control, and the election only made things worse.
How did this happen? Why the desire to always be "the little guy?"
