Republican Persecution Complex?

I'm not trying to start anything, it's just something that seems to me to be a pretty reliable constant. A lot of conservatives have a deep psychological need to paint themselves as the David vs. an all-powerful Goliath. Even circa 2004, when they controlled damn near everything, you had the vast left-wing conspiracy looming over everything they talked about.

And the media! If there's one thing the Republicans could do to improve their image, it would be to stop blaming everyone else for their problems. Is the media sometimes unfair to the right? Absolutely, but that isn't due to philosophy. To apply a single ideology to something as complicated as "the media" betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of it. The media is on the media's side, no one else's. Fox may stump for the GOP, but that's only because their interests frequently align. If it feels the need, Fox will turn against part or all of the GOP for the benefit of Fox.

To constantly blame everything on some liberal Skynet makes them look downright whiny... even when they have a point. Politics is by it's nature is unfair, and to pretend you've never used the news to your advantage is beyond myopic. If the "we're not gonna take it anymore!" attitude of the teabaggers seems odd, it's because they don't view Obama's victory as real change. They think the libs have always been in control, and the election only made things worse.

How did this happen? Why the desire to always be "the little guy?"

*Edited to put a "mis" in front of "understanding"

They probably looked at continuously acting as if they were morally superior, but they saw that was taken. Ditto intellectually superior.

They watched Rocky a few times and figured playing the underdog was the way to go.

Thankya sir. I shall work valiantly to maintain the Singer Seal Of Approval.

I think the next thing I'll do is ask the forum why my girlfriend broke up with me. I sure hope this doesn't lower my rating.

The thing is, those Teabag parties were mostly financed by a very few rich ultra right conservatives. See THIS video for more

There were a bunch (maybe 80-90) of protesters right outside of the rail station near my home. Almost all of them had posters, shirts etc that were given to them by a local Talk Radio station. How "spontaneous" can a demonstration be if all the posters are prefab?

Conservatives have been acting like the underdog since the mid 1960's, when they were the underdog. How they could maintain that stance during 8 years of Bush I have no clue.

Politicians say what works, not what is true or what they think is true.

That's double true for talk radio hosts with a pill and child sex tour habit to support.

The pill thing is documented, but is there anything to prove the later? I mean other than "he went to the Philippines, and we all know what that means" type of proof

8 yrs of W? Heck, they've been creating the paradigm since Carter shit the bed during his presidency. Clinton was a Dem in name but was, at best*, a right-ish moderate.

* - assuming "best" in your worldview means "leaning far to the left"

When accusing Limbaugh of something, I find it useful to adhere to the standards of proof the man himself demands before uttering half-truths, misleading statements, and outright lies.

Nothing beyond the getting caught returning from an island nation known for child sex with a suitcase full of boner pills. I like to think that Bill Hicks had him sized up correctly as a pedo twenty years ago though.
