I'd probably write this off as just another licensed property cash-in, except for two words: Howard Chaykin. I'm pretty sure he can easily capture the young wiseass rookie cop McClane and the steamy miasma of NYC circa 1976.

The character of John McClane was actually based on the literary character of retired cop Joe Leland, created by Roderick Thorp, one of the great crime writers. Hopefully Chaykin can also capture some of Thorp's substantive social commentary in his work. In any case, looking forward to it.
