Conan on TBS - Page 50

These are some great promos. Kudos to TBS or whoever is responsible for them, they're brilliant.
Officially Official...Max is out as band leader.

That's too bad.

But, hey I came across this classic video from the old Late Night show.

Max on Max - Joel on Joel (with Joel watching)
I just hope they get someone with a good sense of humor, and I don't just mean some guy to stand around and chuckle at everything Conan says. Max ended up being a ton of fun on Conan.
The guitar player, Jimmy Vivino is going to be leading the band.
I knew Max would be gone back in January, but I'm still sad that La Bamba won't be there. In person, anyway--I'm sure he'll be there in awkward, mustachio'd spirit.
La Bamba's leaving too?
Yeah, I thought Max was the only departure. That the rest of the band would stay intact.
I think Vivino acted as bandleader on his live tour, even though La Bamba was still there.
Now this is a promo.

Yeah, Jimmy has always been the bandleader in Max's absence. Recent tweets from TheRealLaBamba indicate that he's ready to rock.

Oh, hey, it looks like La Bamba and friends are doing a big band show in LA on 11/20!
Anyone seen the Conan blimp in person? I saw it in Cherry Hill, NJ of all places on my way into Philly. It was pretty cool.
Managed to catch Conan's bit on the Comedy Central telethon the other night, it was great. Going from memory:

"The genius of the bear is that it's actually not very graphic at all. He's just batting ineffectually at genitalia that may or may not be there. It's patterned on my behaviour growing up."

Can't wait to have this guy back on TV.

Some electric excerpts in Variety from the upcoming book The War for Late Night by Bill Carter.

If this piece is anything to go by the book itself will be a must-read.
Thanks for that link, it was a great read. Now I want to get my hands on that book!
I've already got it pre-ordered.

Longer BC excerpt in Vanity Fair: http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/fe...excerpt-201012

Also, I don't have a link handy, but the cover story in Rolling Stone's pretty goddamn funny in spots. Conan: Not a Goonies fan.
Anyone watch Show Zero last night? It was less than four minutes long, but amusing. Andy's Diet Coke pitches were my favorite parts.
I was able to catch the first of the test shows that he had last week. It was rumored to be the show zero, but that wouldn't have made sense as Jack McBrayer is a guest on the 2nd TBS episode and he was the lead off guest for the test show. As a Conan fan, I don't think that I could have been happier with it, even if it was just an excuse for them to test out the new studio and give everyone a run through.

The tone of the show was very much like his Late Night. There was a good deal of absurdity that would have never flown on the Tonight Show. It was definitely treated like a real show by everyone involved- in fact two of the segments (one taped, one part of the monologue) were so good, that I would be stunned if they don't make it on the air next week. Interestingly enough there were a few famous comedians in the audience, just checking it out.

It was a cute teaser, but I'm ready for the show to start. I would have been excited to see the Big Bang Theory dude if I gave a crap about that show.

Big Bang Theory films on the same lot, so I can see Jim Parsons being a go to when in need of a guest.

I've got tickets for the 16th. Can't wait.

These tshirt giveaways on Twitter are re-damn-diculous. I tried today, and all 1000 were gone in under a minute.

I WANTED THE BEARD SHIRT.
They've posted some details about watching the new show online, and internationally:

With all this publicity (blimps, t shirts, etc), TBS clearly has high hopes.. But what are their expectations? How well will the show have to do for it to be a win for them? Daily Show level numbers?

I'm crazy jazzed about it as well, but I'm also trying to temper my expectations. I mean when it comes down to it, it's just another late-nite talk show. Here's hoping he hits it out of the park, though.
I'm excited, too. I got my "I DO MY OWN STUNTS" shirt in the mail today, AND managed to win one of the last day's shirts (the PaleFailWhale one) for my sister. Pretty pleased with all this entertaining promotion they've done.

Here's hoping they do something at least as awesome as that cross-country run that opened "The Tonight Show" last year.

Conan outdoes Outsourced in 1 commercial!

semi OT: Yes my avatar will change.
Man, Godfather and Mad Men in the 1st bit, already in love.
I know it's just "another late-night talk show" but gosh darn it this is already awesome. I LOVE IT.
Pretty great so far. Loved the opening. The set is pretty nice. But man the crowd seems off. They seem too quiet.
Episode 1, Baa-Baa Blackmail. I love it.
Loved the opening. Now can we get past the NBC jokes and get to the weird crap that I like?

I'm also a big fan of naming each episode.
Ok, the bit about the mask was damned great. "The inside smells like tears". I love having Andy sitting there.
Lea Michelle was awkward as all get out, but I'd watch 100 Lea Michelles in exchange for one Jack White/Conan duet. That was fantastic.

This made me so happy.
Conan/Jack White performance was outstanding.
The Michele segment was the worst kind of talk-show blah-blah (I don't watch Glee, and I sure as hell won't now), but the Conan/White climax was awesome. I much prefer the loose Conan to the Conan that feels he needs to be Johnny Carson. As always, the worst part of Conan's talk show are the crappy talk show parts.
Well, if forced to choose I'd still go with The Daily Show. I like being able to get most of the real content in the first 15 minutes. 1 Hour Talk Show format has too much filler.

Still, glad to see Conan back on the air and I really enjoyed the opening segment.
I was really hoping for a Dancing Taco appearance.

I think James Poniewozik summed it up best:

So it turns out if you give Conan cable freedom to do whatever he wants, what he wants to do is Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
I agree, but that works for me.
"You have no advertising experience whatsoever. Also, it's 1965, and you're two years old."

Hey, Coco, Larry Sanders called. He wants his set back.
Conan, you got your $40 mil and your free hand to do whatever the fuck you want. Now quit feeling sorry for yourself and make a kick-ass show.
It wasn't GREAT, but it was great. After all of the build up, I was kind of expecting something epic. But, aside from the beginning, we didn't get anything too spectacular. It was just nice to have him back. I think Conan is probably going to have to regain his confidence....which this summer's tour certainly helped him do a bit. They need to find the show, which won't happen the first week. People are complaining that he got Glee gal on his show, but it certainly tells you what kind of audience he's hoping for. Young. No more breadcrumb trails from the old folks home.

Anyway, Andy's on the couch. Hard to ask for more than that.

"Much. Less."
It was solid. Conan seemed a bit tentative, but was bailed out by a few that Andy hit out of the park. Conan is always at his best when he's loose; give the show a few episodes to find it's legs and I think we'll get back to greatness. Nice to have him back.
It was the 1st episode for Christ sakes, he had to address the NBC situation.

Did he shake things up insanely? No, the talk show format is still there, but titling the show and the opening segment was amazing along with the song at the end. Maybe a lot of people were hoping something along his lines of the tour.

He did seem a little more audience friendly, in terms of actually interacting with them. As long as he brings the edge of Late Night, with a little confidence, he'll do fine.

Picking between Conan and Comedy Central.
Another note on the set. I love having the band back on his right side. Putting them over on the left when he moved to "Tonight" always seemed off.
They're going to get so much mileage out of that moon behind him.

Andy's line about a Mayan watching somewhere and freaking out was awesome.
