They mentioned that all games from that point on would be exclusive. Think this applies to this MGS too?
Soon they're going to be able to call their console the Sony Microsoft 360-station.

And no I don't think it applies.
Why use Raiden though? And "Lightning Bolt Action"? Ok.
Presumably because i) people have been asking to play as always more awesome ninja figure for a while now; ii) Raiden was a far better and impressive character than Snake in the last game and one of the few old faces still in a position to make a comeback; and iii) it gives them the scope to try something different, perhaps a more Ninja Gaiden style game.

Some of the crazier fans of the series have suggested it's not actually the same Raiden as the other games - Raiden is just a code name after all...

Well, given the different color eyes from the other Raiden there was speculation over whether it was actually Sunny. I guess we'll have to see how it turns out.
I just figured it's cyborg Raiden. Besides, can this series take another new character? Shit, as someone who doesn't really follow the series closely. It can get really confusing.

That would be great. And ridiculous.
If it's Sunny, the reveal shall be redonkulously awesome. I love me some fucked up MGS.

It's probably best you clarify early on that it's not you who noticed this incredibly geeky piece of information and was in fact, someone much nerdier.

Given how little patience I have for cutscenes in games and how I’m anti-fun in every way I’m always surprised at how much I enjoyed the Metal Gear Games. Metal Gear Solid 3 was easily one of the highlights of last generation for me and despite it’s over indulgence I had a real blast playing Metal Gear Solid 4. I’m kind of hoping that this is more akin to a Devil May Cry style game, as that sort of play would really suit the loopy operatic storytelling the series has perfected. Also I want to slash some more motherfuckers up with my HF Sword.

I also never got the Raiden hate. He's no Solid Snake, but I liked him as a lead in Metal Gear Solid 2 and he was pretty fucking badass right at the end when he's fighting off multiple metal gears and having sword fights with Dr. Octopus.

Did you get around to 4? Those cutscenes, especially the final one (something like an hour and a half) were beyond overindulgant.

I think that's why I like them, they're completely unaware of just how ridiculous they are. I even have fond memories of MGS2.

Do you think anyone would mistake me for a true MGS devotee? Someone more obsessed than I had comparison shots from Sunny to the screenshot and made some good points.

Personally I don't really care except that I wasn't a huge fan of Raiden in MGS2 ... I don't have anywhere near a good handle on the intricacies of the MGS universe.

I loved number 4, I loved how it kept changing locations and kept lamenting the burden of warfare before showing awesome scenes of Snake beating the shit out robots and cyborgs having swordfight sex with a vampire. I really have no idea how that could possibly be Raiden though given the condition he was left in at the end of 4.

And Metal Gear Solid 2 is awesome in its utter bizarreness. Women who can deflect bullets, the President of the United States rebelling against a bunch of evil dead computers, Ocelot getting possessed and turning all British, Vamp's ridiculous origin story.

Honestly, was just a tease

Glad it's not just me that loved 4 then, Spike. I'm not sure I can explain why. That monkey in particular bothers me.

I'm just imagining a number of possibilities:
  • The 360 becomes the 'lead' platform and is used for demos and hands-on
  • People freaking out and claiming that DVD limitations are holding back the cinematics
  • PS3 owners being annoyed that the PS3 still has mandatory installs while the 360 works straight off the disc
  • Xbox owners getting to experience the joy of the Konami ID system
post #16 of 19
Dear god... the Konami ID system. I'd forgotten about that nightmare.

The PS3 version's not been announced though has it? I'm pretty sure I read timed exclusive on several sites.

Also, the other super-secret MGS title is a PSP one. Hooray.

I've played all the Metal Gear Solid Games. And Metal Gear 1 and 2 on the NES (plus the awesome Tower of Babel game on the Gameboy Colour) and elements of the plot still leave me baffled. Especially everything to do with George Sears/Solidus Snake.

There's a retrospective on Gametrailers. But don't bother with the last video which tries to timeline everything.

But yeah, I never did get the Raiden hate. He's not annoying. He's not lame. Is the issue is that he's got the Final Fantasy look going on?

Fatman's story was a little more ridiculous with the whole building a nuclear bomb when he was twelve thing... Damn, that game was all over the place.

I just hope the game is being made with the storage size of Blu-Ray in mind and not just the space of the 360's dvd.
