Everything Monkey Island - Page 5

There's three lines that any LucasArts fan should know by heart.

"I'm selling these fine leather jackets."

"How appropriate, you fight like a cow!"

and my personal favorite

"Run you pigeons, it's Robert Frost!"

It's more than heavily implied that LeChuck has cast a voodoo spell on Guybrush to keep him in his Carnival of the Damned which he somehow escapes by the start of Curse. If that's what you're referring to, then I don't understand the criticism. If it's something else, then please do explain.
It probably seems different if you start with the third and work back, but for five or six years (practically a lifetime in early gaming terms) the theme park ending looked like it really was the end, and I always took it to be a Total Recall style 'is it or isn't it?' ambiguous finale. Plus there's actually quite a bit of subtle foreshadowing that the ending might be 'real'.

Personally I just always liked the idea that the whole thing might be some kind of Calvin and Hobbes style fantasy, and thought it was a shame that they threw the idea out. It would've been great if they'd stopped at two - so rare for a game series to voluntarily end, and to do it on a weird deliberately off-putting note is even better.

Curse is by far my favorite MI. I remember playing the first one to death on our old 486 and then years later tackling MI2 (which I'm not a huge fan of. I seem to recall not enjoying the puzzles that much). It still looks great and sounds great and to this day, my sister and I will occasionally exchange a hearty singing of "There's A Monkey In My Pocket."

Ooooooooh theeeeeeeeere's aaaaaaa monkey in my pocket and he's stealing all my change, his stare is blank and glassy I suspect that he's deraaaaaaaaanged!

But Grim Fandango is my favoritist adventure game of all time, but only because I find it to be one of the best games ever made. "We will fly, Manny. Like eagles. Like eagles...on pogo sticks."

Hehe, I forgot all about that song! Man, we drove that one into the ground amongst my friends.

My sister, never one to play video games and she only knows the song because it appeals to her silly nature, sent me a photo from her phone the other day. She had a stuffed monkey in her pocket and the text she sent was from the song. From a game I played over 10 years ago.

I had a grin on my face most of the afternoon.

Cant fuvcking wait; "Dragon Age" gets some downtime as I dedicate my full week for this one.
Loved how Telltale has nailed the humor (every chapter has managed to pull off some great quotes) feeling and characters while still injecting some new life and moves on the series.
Chapter 4 has been my favorite so far, especially the courtroom and the love triangle sequences.

So, are they going to be putting this out on Xbox Live after the final episode comes out?

Probably not for a while. It'll probably come, but there's been no announcement yet- they'll probably try and get the whole season in one download. And as much as I love Sam and Max on the system, they have some serious bugs to fix on there.

So did anyone play this yet? I didn't beat it yet but it's a ton of fun. Double Insult Sword Fighting! Think Episode Four's the strongest of the season so far, though.

As soon as I get home, Im playing it.
I amazed how Telltale managed to make small character moments develop the characters in huge ways.
The "lady manatee" conversation between Guybrush and Morgan comes to mind.

I was almost amazed at the sentimental moments in that forth episode! While I've laughed through the whole series and grown fond of the characters, never really in that way. The ending was damn near perfect.

Exactly; Telltale brough the funny, but they also realized the series could pull some very emotional and dramatic material.
You also gotta love how Morgan is esentially a shout out to many MI fans that feel Guybrush getting married wasnt a good move at all...it even gets a bigger shout out during the duel at the bar in episode 4.
Also, either telltale works at hyperspeed or they are psychic; check their forums and see how pretty much every episode has featured some fan request over the previous one; Morgan getting more involved with Guybrush, Murray making an appearance, Morgan and Elaine fighting.
Telltale is pretty much one of the most fan friendly and pleasing developers out there IMO.

If anybody's playing chapter five, how the hell do you regain control of your physical body? I know I need to get the spirit gum from the adjacent cell, and I'm pretty sure the solution involves the dart-throwing judge and the kegs of root beer, but damned if I can figure it out.

You find the mug next to the gum? Try grabbing it right before being taken back to your spirit form. You'll hold on to it...

This chapter's got some of the more bizarre puzzles of the series, and a whole TON of backtracking, unfortunately. The finale is very similar to the end of the first Sam and Max season, weirdly enough, but it's pretty satisfying.

Four chapter's easily the best of them all, though.

One great easter egg you guys might find- BANANG! Keep clicking.

Agreed with the 4th chapter being the best, but i did love the amount of past references to the previous games in this one (helmet, anyone?).
Great work overall by Telltale, and here's hoping for more in the future.
If I had to pick a favorite moment/scene, its definitely a tie between the "manatee talk between Guybrush and morgan" and Elaine bursting into the courtroom.

Well, that's some arbitrary, unintuitive shit. Thanks, Alex.

It's out, great. I decided half-way through episode 3 to wait and finish it when it's complete. This weekend will be Monkey Island weekend then.

Have you ever tried to pull something off a stiff dead person's hand? Its better to just leave it there.
Still, yeah, way too dense and unexpected solution.
Never mind. Despite mousing over the empty cell a few dozen times, I somehow kept missing the goddamn loose block. The fact that the game's hint system kept telling me to "go scare someone" wasn't helping. But once I got Bugeye's diary, the rest of the episode was a cinch.

All in all, I'm satisfied with the season. Liked it, didn't love it.

MI2 Special Edition is official:

http://www.lucasarts.com/games/monkeyisland2/#/home

I felt like there was something a bit 'so near yet so far' about the first special edition (interface somehow managed to be clunkier and more awkward than the 20 year old original, and the new Guybrush design just never gelled).

This however is looking almost painfully sublime thus far. I can't wait.

They had BETTER keep the original MI2 opening credits. Guybrush vs the Dancing Monkeys is just classic.

Wow. MONKEY ISLAND 2 is a shitload trickier than the first game. I'm not even off Scab Island and I've already been completely flummoxed three times. I refuse to cheat or get a hint, so I end up walking around for hours until a solution dawns on me, which is always so rewarding once it does. Then that's followed by me being pissed at myself for not seeing the obvious. (Of course! Why didn't I put the bucket of mud over top of the door hours ago?!)

It's easily the cheapest of the series. I absolutely despise some of those puzzles. How is the hint system in the remake, at least?

I can tell you that the MI1:SE hint system returns, along with a new one which allows you to "light up" all the objects that can be interacted with on a given screen.

I'm going to try to make it to the end using neither. We'll see ...

I wnet through the whole of Scabb Island by memory untill i got stumped at the Laundry puzzle.
After that, i had an easy time with the game, aside from the first spitting puzzle and my uneven memory giving me some long ass cross islands treks.
