If I was really going to critique the game I’d say it feels clunky and messy. The harsh daylight really exposes the weird animation of the infected and the multiple aid kits/adrenaline shots/weapon choices really take away from the frantic and lean feeling of the original. It feels cluttered compared to effective minimalism of the original.

It’s only a demo so a lot of my technical concerns may be addressed by the full game. But it feels like the original game with crudely spacked on features. That’s probably the games biggest selling point, but for someone like me whose enthusiasm for the game was grounded into nothingness by the original I was hoping for something that felt more refined or original. At the end of the day I’m slowly losing my free time and as such my gaming time is going to be dwindling and I’d rather play something which is fun to play (like Borderlands) or engrossing and ‘deep’ (like Dragon Age) than more of a game that really started to bug me after a while.

I'm just saying you're utterly joyless and entirely monotonous, is all.

Same thing happens to WoW on day one of any new expansion. It's everybody piling online to get a taste at the same time.

That may be the case, I have become something of an old man about buying videogames.

After Brutal Legend turned out to be a bit of a bait and switch and ODST proved to be fun but BRUTALLY shortlived I've become increasingly unwilling to buy new games unless I think they're going to be a sure fire hit. Also I now am obliged to hate everything Alex likes.

You know my only real major complaint is that they still have to announce that they are reloading. It was funny at first and I could imagine they assumed people would have been somewhat tactical with timing their reloads with cover fire, but after awhile it just grated on my nerves. Seems like they say it even more in this one.

Actually Ellis says, "Hay you guys, Ah'm reloadin'", which kills me every time. And I have to say I'm pleased with the added stuff (the boomer juice and defibrillator in particular), and can't wait for more stompin' ground.

After playing through the demo a few more times, I feel reasonably comfortable in saying that this is going to be a much, much harder game in which to play as humans. The fact that the spitter acid doesn't effect zombies is going to destroy people. Oh, you're stuck in a mob? Guess what, that spitter pile is going to do 6-10 points of damage a second.
If I'm not mistaken, I've heard a rumor that the Spitter's acid will actually heal the undead. I'm not sure if this applies only to the special infected or the entire hoard.

As of right now I'm have to say I'm disappointed with the demo. The sequel is feeling more like a tribute to action films than horror. I remember my first play through of the original, which felt like a really good survival horror game. (Who didn't look at that cornfield at the end of Blood Harvest and think "Oh Sh*t"). This doesn't have that feel. Though I'm going to reserve judgment until I play though the entire sequel.

The thing that really worries me is that all my games last night on the L4D versus were lagging so bad it was nearly impossible to play. L4D2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest preordered game of the season, and if their servers are lagging from a demo without a versus mode, I hate to think what unplayable madness online play may be on the release date. I just hope Valve is investing in a lot more server space.

I don't know about you guys, but I first encountered the witch in the second level of the Parish in the park. I was on single player and it was nerve wracking as fuck. I lost track of her wandering down one of the paths and all I could hear was her crying, but I didn't know where she was. My AI compatriots managed to avoid her, but it was still tense, had to make sure every shot counted lest I accidentally shoot her somehow.

Oh, and the Billy Club is my new fave.

Great demo. I wish I had a better tv so I could appreciate the visuals better. Thought I would hate the daytime setting, but I find it a bit more disconcerting. It feels...more depressing to see everything laid to waste in the sunlight. I think I could almost smell the stink and decay under the sun, so kudos to Valve.

Hahah, fucking awesome. Clutch + L4D. Could it get any better?!
Love, love, love the new characters!

It took me a little while to warm up to the original four in the first game but I am loving the new four right off the bat.
The demo might have sold me on this. I love the sound and feel of the guns, the melee weapons are really effective (even though they don't seem to "connect" with their targets the same way melee weapons did in Condemned), and I like the daytime setting. Squinting through darkness doesn't make this kind of game any scarier. Lag was the only thing that dragged the demo down, but I don't have an infallible connection, so I can't fault the game for that.
The game's $40 at Kmart on Black Friday. Assuming the deal extends to online orders (no amount of money saved gets me into a place like Kmart that day), it's bought.
Black Friday deals often don't so I wouldn't count on it.
I finally tried out the demo last night, solo play though. Good stuff. Kinda like the first one, but that aint a bad thing at all. the intro is still all sorts of awesome, and I do kinda dig the characters too. I need to remedy never playing the original or this one with other people though... I'm missing the big point thus far.
I love the hell out of the Demo and I can't wait to play the new game modes when I get it later this year.

Any one here have any trouble playing this with the multicore option on? I kept getting to points where the game would lag and I can't move for a few seconds. Once I turned off multicore it seemed to fix the problem and I've not noticed any lose in performance.

"Hold up, yo, Ima heal yo ass!"

I thought the demo was pretty impressive. I particularly liked the trucker who drops you off, it connects to the larger world environment in a way that seemed a bit haphazard in the first one - I don't think you met anyone else in that, except the asshole in the belltower.

Does anyone else know if there's an option to turn off all the needless HUD garbage on PC? I would dig it up myself, but I played the demo at my friends house and am very curious as to the answer. I just sort of assumed you could at the time, since PC's are awesome, but I would like to confirm that.

What HUD garbage? like when it gives you "tips" and what not? I was thinking it was doing this cause it was a demo.

I love the fact that each time I play the demo I discover yet another gun. Pump shot gun all the way!!

Just a heads-up -- I guess this game may get kind of lost in the holiday shuffle, but it unlocks on Steam in about two hours.
hahaha you really think LFD2 will be lost in the holiday shuffle?

cute.
Tati, are you getting this for the PC?

I'm sure it'll be hotcakes, but I thought it was kind of strange that the thread was this quiet directly prior to release. The same couldn't be said for the MW2 and Dragon Age threads.

Probably not, getting it would be $240 of my economy. The conversion rate of the dollar KILLS me when getting original stuff. That's why i can't have an Xbox, can't afford it. And the game is only worth it multiplayer, so getting a pirated version would suck as well.

The costs of living in the third world, i have to give up multiplayer games.

Game is better in every single respect. It's ten times better than the original. And I LOVE the original.

Man, you have no idea. That demo doesn't give you any idea of how much fun the game is. They're also the shortest levels in the game.

Wait till you guys see the concert...
Love the new special zombies. So much more strategy goes into it. A spitter/smoker/jockey attack can be devastating if coordinated correctly.
Why is every November like a big fat one-two knockout punch to my wallet? Not just gaming-wise, but EVERYTHING-wise.

I guess I'm just going to have to look at L4D2 videos and pine.
Played a little bit after picking it up at midnight and I can already tell this one is going to be much tougher then the first. While rushing through a segment I opened a door only to be greeted by both a Spitter and Boomer. The horde rapped me so I couldn't get out of the acid spit. So yeah, the zombies are absolutely devastating with the right combo.
Getting this after work. Woo woo.
I'm really torn between getting this for the 360 vs. the PC. Is there still a big contingent of folks here planning on getting this for the 360?
I'm getting it for 360, and I'd wager the majority here are planning to as well.
PC for me; Valve games have a history of being shit online on XboxLive outside the US, at least that was the case for me with Orange Box and L4D.
PC games work like a charm, though.

I kind of forgot how excited I was for this game, but I can't wait to get home from work. More than usual.
Just wrapped early at work and got this game. Very excited however I am fucking gassed from a 430AM calltime
post #191 of 403
I just got this in the mail. Hopefully I'll have a chance to play tonight; it figures it comes out on a day when I've got all manner of shit to do.

This morning at GameStop a mother asked for it on the PS3. Between the clerk not understanding the woman's son did not have a 360 and the woman not understand it was 360 exclusive it was a memorable five minutes.

Hard Rain, folks. It's all about Hard Rain. Although I keep fighting between that one and Dark Carnival as my two favorites.
