Just to cheer this thread the fuck up, here's a charming story of cops rescuing baby ducklimgs from a storm drain, including some great pics. Take yer burning cats alive jokes and stuff 'em.

Yeah, the nice animal stories deserve some love. Here's a good one I heard about yesterday:

Pretty amazing... Dog gets hit by car, survives, then a few days later falls down a 40ft mine shaft, owner has no way of getting down there so tries to end the dog's misery, owner thinks the dog is now dead so heads home, poor dog is alone down there for 10 days until some fine human beings who happen to be passing by hear her, they try to get help but nobody will help and instead all they get is a warning that it's too dangerous to go down there, but they ignore this, buy some climbing gear and rescue her on their own. And the dog is fine!

Hope the owners spoil her rotten.
