Phantasm II Coming To Dvd!

According to this link, Phantasm II is finally being released on 9-15 by Universal Pictures. Along with BD releases of Creepshow, The Deep, and many others from July through October.

It's about time this flick was released.

Great news. The last few seconds of this one are among my favorite of all the Phantasms.

I'm constantly surprised that you guys didn't get the Phantasm Sphere of Doom set that was released over here a few years back. You would have thought the American market for the film would have been far bigger than the British market.

Never was a big Phantasm guy but "hot damn!" to that Creepshow Blu Ray news.

Hopefully the Creepshow release imports the awesome features from the Region 2 release so I can sell off or trade my snapper release.

Great news! Completes the set, finally.

I guess the money Anchor Bay offered them didn't fall on deaf ears. I know a guy that has worked on AB's Phantasm extras for a while now, and apparently Universal quoted them an astronomical price for the rights. MGM gave up parts 1 and 4 for a song.

I also met the guy that prepared the R2 Creepshow disc and he said he prepared everything himself, and Universal had no interest in buying it. That particular studio is sort of retarded when it comes to cult horror properties. AB only sold a trillion dollars worth of Army of Darkness discs before they finally pulled their heads out of their asses and got the rights back.

And those of you with FearNet: Phantasm II is on-demand right now.

But maybe they're aware that it's a WB catalog title?

Michael Felsher gives good extras. Knocked it out for Texas Chain Saw (1 and 2); I've been dying to see what he did for Creepshow.

Creepshow disc is SWEEET. I bought the UK set at Amoeba...only to discover the impending Blu-Ray release. Story of my life.

Universal handled Creepshow overseas - might have been what that was in reference to.

I'm sorry, I got it backwards. He got a positive response from Universal, who bought his stuff for the UK release, but WB didn't care for a US re-release. Universal is still not very good with the treatment of genre catalog titles.

Tomorrow!

Any reviews of this new transfer anywhere? Has someone seen an advance copy? Are there any advance copies? Seeing how this is a bare bones release, the pic and sound quality are the big news.

UPS Quantum View says it was supposed to be here today, looking like tomorrow morning. If need be, I can post screencaps tomorrow.

Thanks. Much appreciated.

Not rain on everyones parade but.....no Blu-ray?
Took long enough to get the DVD out, Blu-Ray would be way too much to ask of Universal at this point.

It was actually out on the New Release rack at a local video store. Contemplated grabbing one but didn't have much cash on me.

Finally. Looks like I can pick this up and throw out my bootleg copy.

Well, Night of the Creeps and Hardware are effectively going straight to US Blu-ray, why not an even better genre flick?
Well, "better" is really a matter of opinion. I may catch a lot of flack for this (and keep in mind I haven't seen Phantasm 2 in years) but Night of the Creeps and Hardware inch over Coscarelli's opus in my book. Which isn't to say I might change my tune later today.

I've got 12 more shots.

Thanks again. Thoughts on the disc? Or are we getting a full review? Definitely a movie made for funny captions.

I'm back and forth on getting this, as I don't think it adds much to the first one beyond good production values and some wild set-pieces and ideas. And the ending is just crummy. If it was less than $10 at some crazy sale, I'd pounce.

If I can work out the time, I'll do a review. I've got to get around 1 screener being sent without a disc in the case.

It's fairly barebones and it's an obvious Universal seasonal dump.

You're absolutely right. I think my point still stands on previously unavailable stuff going straight to Blu, though.

WHAT??? No DVD release for NOTC?
Nononono, it gets a DVD too, hence the 'effectively'. I'm wording things badly.

I could put up with that if these studios would actually just get around to "dumping" some of these things. The world has enough XMEN and SPIDERMAN double/triple/quafuckindruple dips.

Someday WITHOUT WARNING. Dear God. Someday!

This. Please!
So how does this sequel compare to the original. I've been thinking about renting Phantasm II.
Phantasm II is the best one. It has a budget, and Raimian levels of energy.
It also has a Four-Barreled shotgun, also known as the American Excalibur.

I don't want to start another thread because it's probably not enough to warrant it, but Abar: The First Black Superman finally got a DVD release, and Happy Birthday to Me is coming Tuesday. Color me super happy!
