Air France Crash

I can't sleep - it's 3am in London - and I've been trying to imagine what it must be like to be in a plane at 35,000 feet which is suddenly torn apart. I can't.

Although that would be better than the new theory - that the plane descended intact to the ocean. Apparently this is because the last data sent indicates a gradual loss of Cabin pressure.

I watch Air Crash Investigation way too much and as such have those sorts of horrible thoughts all the time.

That said, I'd take breaking up in the air with the probability of a swifter death over descending intact into the ocean and sinking like a stone personally.

Definitely. These planes can glide for 100 miles, but that's not much use when the nearest land is 700 miles away. Doesn't look like that was an option anyway.

And now it appears that 2 of the passengers were radical muslims on France's teroor suspect list. Or their names are similar.

I'd almost rather believe it was sabotage, because the idea of it suddenly breaking apart because of a bad storm is too skincrawling to think about.

If I had to choose I would take exploding over drowning any day. It would save my family money on the funeral as an added bonus. But really I can't think of a worse way to go, creeps me out no end.

An Italian woman who did not board the Air France flight that crashed in the Atlantic, killing all its 228 passengers, has died in a car accident.

Johanna Ganthaler, a pensioner from the northern Italian province of Bolzano-Bozen, and her husband Kurt missed the June 1 Air France flight 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris after arriving late at the airport.

Johanna and Kurt Ganthaler were vacationing in Brazil, when they missed the ill-fated Air France flight and were forced to catch a different flight later that day.

Just days later after returning to Europe, Johanna lost her life when their car went off the road near the Austrian city of Kufstein.

Oh, great. Now this is turning into an airport technothriller novel. I'm waiting for Dirk Pitt to show up.
