Fight Night Round 4

Man, i've no idea why I like this so much. I'm not really into any kind of sports games, or even sports that involve kicking the crap out of each other - but for some reason there's something beautiful about FN. The simplicity of the great controls, smoothness of the animations and how everything reacts.

The demo for this has me oddly excited. It's not quite as drastically different as the step Round 3 was (the first game I ever experienced in HD) but this one's got potential for greatness.

Anyone else indulge?

EDIT: Man, 40 views of a thread titled Fight Night - you know what you're getting! - and yet no replies? Odd, i'd have thought a game like this would be like catnip to most guys.

I preordered this on the strength of the demo. I like FNR3 quite a bit, even with the crappy hit detection, but they smoothed out all of the problems I had with that game. The speed is great too. Totally looking forward to playing the full game.

There's something funny about the demo when it's loading up the actual match - did your music stutter at all? I'm assuming it's a PS3 bug, since most bugs tend to be.

If the demo is a sign of things to come, then I'll never be able to K.O. someone.

I noticed the music kinda skipped a couple of times, during match loading and when navigating the menus. I downloaded the demo on PS3 and 360 and didn't notice them on 360. I do like the PS3 controller more for this particular game, but graphically they were both similar. I think I'm gonna go PS3 with this one. Hopefully, with the game getting released earlier, they worked out any kinks that were present in the demo.

Do you guys all use the stick to control the punches?

I know you could in FN3, but I always used the buttons. When I followed the training session in FN4, I learned to use the sticks, but didn't find it satisfying. Can you use the buttons instead, and, is it worth it to use the stick instead?

Yeah, I use stick for the punches. I'm pretty sure there's the option to use buttons though (I used them for FN3 on the PSP, obviously).

I think it just feels better to me. Can make it a little difficult to differentiate between certain moves, and naturally you'll be weaker at either left or right-handed punches - but I think it's really quite intuitive. Especially for blocking then counterpunching.

I really didn't have much time for FF3. The controls and movement kinda bugged me.

Got a chance to play FF4 demo last night, and I was really suprised by how much it "clicked" with me. I'm gonna look into this when it comes out. Ali Vs Tyson? Tyson's gonna punch Ali in the head so hard, its gonna give him parkinsons in his old age.

The music stuttered on my ps3 too.

Hated the demo because it was all sticks. I never played FN3 that way, and I don't want to play FN4 that way either. Turned me off.

Does anyone know if it'll have the cool pre-recorded nick-names? I loved being Captain Insanity.

I'm with Rob. It's not that i cant get the hang of just using the analog sticks to throw punches, it just sucks. When things get hectic its seem way to difficult to perform blocks and dodges. With the buttons everything was just super simple and fluid.

This is a huge bummer though. I was excited to continue my boxing career with my featherlight Slurpee "No Dice" Jones.

I just picked up my copy last night and I absolutely love it. I was a big fan of FFR3, and they have improved most aspects with the sequel. The speed of this game is pretty amazing. You can string together some bad ass combos fairly easily. The counter-punch system works really well too, much better than the weird slow plodding crap from FFR3. I ended up getting it for PS3, so if anyone else picks it up and wants to fight, hit me up.

I'm looking to pick this up on the 360 by the end of the weekend so I'm definitely in for some XBL throwdowns.

corn or anyone thats got the game on the ps3, what's the online component like?
Lag free with plenty of players online? Is there an auto-matchmaker system?

These things are key to my purchase.

I played some online this weekend. They have an automatch system, and you can create your own matches......standard online stuff. I had no problem finding a random match over the weekend. I might try some during the week to see if I get the same results.

Fuck you EA. Why even remove that option to begin with? So glad I didn't buy this yet. Yeah, I'm a pussy that likes to use the combination of sticks and buttons.
