Tiger Woods 10

I'm posting this because of the Wii version, but 360/PS3 impressions are welcome too. I guess.

Anyway, I've played maybe three rounds of golf in my life, so I'm hardly any kind of expert opinion, but Tiger Woods with the Motion+ attachment really finally feels like The Golf Game From The Future. The game measures the height of your backswing, the speed and rhythm of your downswing and the angle at which your club head hits the ball. Basically the only thing it's automating for you is striking the ball, you can't swing over or under it (mercifully).

Same goes for putting, if you want--the distance is determined by how far you pull back and how hard you follow through.

It's all 1:1. I think there's a slight delay of a few milliseconds in the swing, probably for animation purposes. I'm not sure, really, because looking at the screen while you swing just about guarantees that you're going to shank it. But adjusting the club face beforehand and moving your hand around during Disc Golf is very clearly perfect 1:1 motion.

Of course the graphics could use some tightening up, especially the created player models. And not that it matters much in a golf game, but the framerates aren't terribly smooth, either.

But it's also got a shit-ton of courses and modes, and online seems to work like a champ (no friend codes). I only got it last night but I played until my arm was sore. If you have a Wii you definitely have to try this out, at least.

Does this work without the new motionplus attachment?

Yes. But it's not nearly as good without it.

I'm not a big golf guy, but I snapped this up immediately, and have been playing ever since. Tons of value in this game . . . the frisbee golf game alone could keep me occupied for weeks.

I wasted my money on 09 for the PSP. Yes, they took out online play. Yes, it was exactly the same as 07 and 08. I am going to check out a review of 10 for the PSP before I purchase this.

Thanks for the heads up on the console side, though.

See this is precisely why wii golf just doesn't work for me. I like golf (grew up with a fanatical golfer for a dad), I always used to enjoy playing golfing games, but thing is I'm shithouse at it in real life.

Why then would I want to play a computer game of golf that only lets me get good at it if Im a good golfer?

That's the problem I have with most of this motion sensor technology for games. Gaming is supposed to be wish fulfillment, not about having to have the ability to swing, jump, throw, punch or whatever.

Bah, I'm ranting.

Okay, as a self proclaimed expert on Tiger Woods games I can say definitively that for the 360/PS3 the game is broken. Although the peripheral features have been given a boost, the game play feels like a regression from the previous couple of years, and the amount of bugs (or maybe just lazy game design) ruin most competitive rounds. Just because Tiger took off for eight months doesn't mean the people making the game had to as well.

I believe the alternate swing methods are still included.
