Yeah, get this one. I'm kinda blown away.

I'm cautiously skeptical because I didn't love Rise Above as much as other people. I liked it as an experiment but didn't find myself listening to it that often.

I've heard a couple of songs off the new one and I like what I hear. Downloaded today...will have more thoughts later.

It's better than Rise Above, and I agree with you on that one...I liked it for what it was and for a few standouts, but overall it didn't gel. This makes up for it though. Very solid. I almost want to call it the best Ted Leo album that Ted Leo never made, but at the same time they're doing something totally different.

Wow. That's high praise...I'm a HUGE Ted Leo fan. Now I can't wait to listen to the whole thing.

Me too re: Ted. There's just something Ted Leo-esque about the guy's vocals, and the inclusion of the female vocalists kicks it to a different level. Mind you, I know that Leo's doing his own thing and the DPs are doing theirs, but I kept thinking of Leo every time dude would start crooning.

It's great. Best album they've produced so far.

Now that I think about it, my "Ted Leo Album" comment might have been a little presumptuous, but I was whacked out on Mucinex-D. I still really like this album though.

So do I. I was consistently surprised by it, but while some of the oddities on Rise Above wore me out after a while...here, I just want to go back and listen to them again. The music is sunny and beautiful, the vocals joyous and full of life, the music challenging but engaging...and there's always something to latch onto to bring you back for more. It's sad because this is going to be an album I'm going to try to hook my friends on to and they'll get stuck on the weird things about the record and ignore the fact that at its core it's just a really, really good pop album. Thanks for the recommendation, I'm glad I gave it a chance.

I'm surprised Louse isn't all over this. Must be too close to the pop conduit wormhole zeitgeist.

Pitchfork probably gave it too high of a score for his liking. We ARE (hopefully) in the last throes of the Decade of Backlash, y'know...

EDIT: And it's fucked up that this album showed up during one of the worst periods of L.A. June gloom I've seen in a long time. I'm waiting for summer to burst forth so that I can go lollygag around at the beach and listen to this and Phoenix's latest and get a terrible sunburn while being way too full of Mexican food.

Yeah, it's been raining out here all week, but this would be perfect for driving around town with the windows down and heading for sun and sand.

Man...I think it gets better each time I listen to it. The triple hit of Two Doves, Useful Chamber and No Intention just make my fucking day.
