This looks like your average martial art demo, but with people in suits instead of your traditional martial arts garb.

The site says it's a competition, so I was wondering if were going at each other for real or not.

Why on Earth would they compete in suits? Maybe there was a competition, but I'm pretty sure these pics aren't from it. These pics screams demo. They probably demonstrate their stuff to the crowd or potential clients. Since it's in the former USSR, it's probably some sambo/systema/Spetsnaz style fights separate from that. Or specific trials, like running, or shooting.

Or these are fights pics, and it's really really awesome.

They're in suits because they're bodyguards and they have to perform in that uniform in the field?

...and yes it is really really awesome.

It is an actual tournament, this is info from the one they held last year;

Anna Rubleva: Until the end of the week the bodyguards will show escort, shooting, martial arts and extreme driving skills. We managed to talk to the organizers before the opening.

The conditions of the tournament are near-real. For example, different types of attempted attacks on a person can be tried. The bodyguards must prevent and avert them. Veteran SWAT members will act as judges during the competition. Be reminded that this is an open event, so everyone is invited to watch.
