Link - a pretty good piece from Roger Ebert about the "O'Reilly Effect" on discourse.

As usual great piece by Roger, thanks for the link.
Sadly, this is what has become of our news, the 24 hour news cycle and the stations that must feed them have transformed news into entertainment.

Anyone who doesn't think O'Reilly is nuts needs to see that video where he squares off against Geraldo.

Last week I got into it with an O'Reilly fan. He asked me if I watched Fox News, to which I promptly replied "Hell, no." He said O'Reilly was amazing and told it like it was. I said he was a loud-mouthed bully who doesn't let his guests speak. I swear his response was "Well, that's cuz they have nothing of importance to speak about!"

The ignorance...

I never understood that line of reasoning. If they really don't have anything to say what's the justification of having them on the show? What kind of "news" show just fills their time with guests that have nothing important to say?
