Anniversary Tips for NYC

My wife and I are coming to NYC this week to celebrate our anniversary. It will be my first trip, although my wife has been many times. We know of all the monumental landmarks and must-sees, but I was wondering what were some of the city's hidden gems and best kept secrets that we may enjoy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not a hidden gem or anything like that but try to check out the play Wicked.

Suggestions:

Brunch - Pipa
Thai - Thai Market
Lounge - Tillman's

Have a good time.

We really wanted to see it but found out that it was sold out all this week. I guess we waited too late.

Isn't Shakespeare in the park happening right now? If you're into that, check it out. Plus it's easy on the wallet (i.e., free). Also if you're an art buff at all or just want to hang out in a nice environment and do some exploring there's tons of great art galleries to check out as well; MoMa is a personal favorite. How about movies? Film Forum, Landmark Sunshine, the Angelika, the Village East, Cinema Village, Lincoln Square, BAM -- all great theaters, all showing tons of great flicks right now. That's usually how I spend my free time in NY, anyway.

SevenYearItch, You should pick up...Time Out New York, it is on newsstands on Wednesday, and they list all activities in the city from walking tours, street fairs, broadway shows etc. If you want cheaper tickets for broadway go to the...TKTS booth in Father Duffy Square, located at 47th and Broadway. If you are going to go to the village, there are two restaurants I would recommend...Olives in Union Square at 17th st and Park ave in the W Hotel. They take reservations, and while it is a little pricey, the food and service are worth it. If you want to sit outside, and like Northern Italian food go to...I Coppi. It is located at 9th st, between Avenue A, and 1st ave. They also take reservations and like Olives, there is no dress code. If you want a good place for dessert go to...Veniero's, an italian pastery shop at 11th st between 1st and 2nd avenue. They have Iced Moccaccino with Chocolate Gelato, as well as great pasteries. It has been in business since 1894, and is still family owned.

I recently took my wife to the Central Park Conservatory Garden without telling her what we were going to do, she really enjoyed it. It's a nice place for a walk if you want to be all romantical.

There are a lot of good places to get food over on Lex near there too.

Shakespeare is playing up in Central Park. They're doing Twelfth Night. Anne Hathaway is playing Viola (yesssss), you have to get in line very early, but it's well worth it a) for the play (which is always a good one) and b) for the camaraderie you form with your fellow line-goers.

Also, I believe there's some bar in Astoria that you should go to that occasionally does cool things. Heckdoor, or something. I think Alex knows about it.

SevenYearItch, One If By Land, Two If By Sea on Barrow St in the west village is one of the more romantic restaurants in...NYC.

It usually doesn't rain this much!

Didn't mind the rain at all. It wasn't much, and it was indeed a nice change of pace from the ninety degree plus weather hear in GA. It certainly didn't stop us from getting out and about and soaking in all the sights.
