UK Chewers: Is Love Film worth it?

I have been given a 30 free trial for Love film and have been toying with switching my Sky Movies subscription for this. Anyone of my fellow UK chewers used it/have an opinion?

My main concern so far is the turn around time. The package I like is the £9 which allows me to have 2 films at once but an unlimited amount in a month. How quick do they get the films out to you? And does a box set count as one choice or more than one choice?

Any help would be appreciated

I'm a massive fan of Lovefilm, and their turnaround is really quick. If you put a film in the post on Monday, they'll have it by Tuesday and you'll have the next item by Wednesday. They've also got a really good game rental service, atlhough you need to faff about with lists to make it worth it.

I've been with love film for about a year and a half now and so far so good for the most part. Turn around time is pretty fast, as far as I can tell they post your next title out as soon as they receive the last one. The only thing that slows me down is forgetting to post them back for a few days or not being in the mood/not having time to watch something. If you're fast you could be getting new titles a couple of times a week.

Each disc in a box set counts as a seperate choice essentially, in terms of how many you can have at one time, but when composing your list online a box set is a seperate choice on your list, if I'm making sense. I've found renting box sets to be a little hit and miss, usually once one is opened they send you out each disc in sequence until it's finished, but I've been halfway through BSG season 3 since January and I've had one disc of Arrested Development season 1 before they launched into The Wire season 3. Overall though I'd recommend it. Hope this helps.

Sounds good.

I'm told they have a huge range of films and the Games rental is promising. Is there a limit on how long you keep newer titles or does everything fall under the "no late fees" banner.

I really can't think of anything bad to say about Lovefilm and no, there's no limit to how long you can keep anything.

It's essentially flawless until we get a reliable digital download service over here. Even then the game rental's still top notch.

Games rental costs extra, I'm pretty sure a 2 disc unlimited package with games isn't £9.

To be fair im not to bothered about the game rental. I just want a decent rental service for films.

Well then, Lovefilm are great. They merged with Amazon's rental service a year back and as such their library is pretty impeccable. Just be careful when putting TV onto your list, because they do get skittish with that stuff.

I've been with them for three or four years now, can't remember who they were before that but add another couple for them. I've never had any problems with them. One time I received a scratched disc and told them. They just said to return it, no questions asked, which is cool cos they coud have blamed me for it. Another time I sent a disc back and the website never updated to say they'd received it. I queried it with them and they wrote that one off too and just sent me the next rental that day.

Very good service, around a two-day turnaround from sending back to receiving the next. I'm on the two discs at a time deal too, which works out great for boxsets and they've always sent the first discs first, if you know what I mean - no discs 6 & 7 first in a series.

So yeah, go for it.

I reported a problem with my copy of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and shipped back my disc, they immediately sent me a replacement copy and also happened to send me the next movie on my list - so I'm currently 1 rental up on what I should have...

So Lovefilm are pretty aces with me.

I adore Lovefilm, I've been with them for a year and only had one bad experience where they posted me something that wasn't on any of my lists. I reported the problem, they apologised and sent the right film in quick time.

Also cool, I recently had some problems with the site: I couldn't add certain titles as 'high priority', and they sent me something that wasn't from the list I'd selected. For the first problem, they offered me a free week's subscription and for the second, they offered me an extra rental for free.

The site problems are sorted now and I was very pleased with their response when I got in touch.

I loved being with them for a year when i was in the UK. They have a 24 hour turnaround time and if you are ruthless with watching them (I would watch them immediately and post them back the same day) you can really make savings - i have afew tips.

they used to do a 3 month trial for the price of one month. See if you can still get this, then about a week or 10 days before the 3 months are up (set a reminder somewhere), cancel - you have to call india but it's no big deal, then a week later, like clockwork, they will send you an email telling you that you can have another 3 month trial for the price of one month. I have a friend who has been doing this for 3 years (he's only paid for one year's worth). At that price, go for the MAX deal. you don't have to repopulate your list or anything it just does goes inactive until you re-activate it. All of you should try this, I swear it worked last i heard. If they don't get back to you in 2 weeks, just re-activate it. I did it for a year and saw well over 100 movies and paid less than 50quid for the year.

I had a disc go missing - never recieved it in the post, theis happened twice, once it turned up about a week late, so no biggie, the next one just never made it, so they ssend you a form to claim it back from Royal mail on your behalf, it can take a while but they were nice as pie about it and sent me extra movies straight away.

My other suggestion is: don't let your list get too long, 20-30 films is fine otherwise you won't ever get the new releases - they will just send you the easy back catalogue stuff - the priority thing was fucking pointless.

I've never had any problems with them - if they do screw up they just send you an extra movie - easy. Do it, but be RUTHLESS!!!!!!!! if you have a movie lying around for a week that you haven't watched, that could have been 2 more movies.

My list's about 60 titles long at the moment and i've noticed a decent enough variety. The priority list's just so they can say "oh we've sent you your most desired titles!" despite it taking a while. I've found I receive most titles around tuesday, send them back individually after viewing only to get them back roughly saturday to monday individually. I used to get 2 loads a week but my time's restricted me from watching all 3 in a day and sending back immediately.

Saying that, i've only got one high priority title - Red Faction 3 and i've been waiting for it since release (despite the lack of a queue).

I received roughly 4 months free, then prepaid for mine for a year at a total price of £150 for the 3-unlimited-plus-games package. I also got 1000 tesco clubcard points in a deal plus 150 for putting it on the tesco credit card.

But yeah, keep the list contained to the bare-minimum recommended of about 20-30 titles.

Lovefilm for films but for Games I go with Gamesfrenzy. I managed to back both Red Faction and Prototype the day before release. Can't say better than that.
Gamesfrenzy would work out at about an extra 8 quid a month for me. Whilst the cost certainly justifies the service, the ratio of great films to great games is more in line with the +£2 I pay for unlimited games on top of a £15 movie package.
