And The Stig is apparantly Michael Schumacker.

Good challange this week pitting the train against the Jag against the bike. Here is hoping the series keeps it's usual lunacy.

Indeed he is. I never would have guessed Schumacher in a million years.

I'm so happy this show is back. I'm no gearhead but it makes me want to be one. Plus, I've got a total mancrush on Richard.

Hammond seems to be de aging in between seasons, pretty soon he will be a schoolboy.

I'm gonna be bold. Regardless of genre, Top Gear along with The Wire are easily the best TV shows ever. This episode was fantastic. From Schumi being the Stig (if it's real), to the challenge, to the FXX's absolutely vulgar time around the track it couldn't have been better.

The only thing that makes me doubt he is the Stig is that they were listed seperatly in the credits.

The FXX looks like Batman should be driving it but is an amazing car.

It still makes me quite giddy that Top Gear USA (or America or whatever) was unceremoniously shitcanned before it could taint the fine work that Clarkson and Co. do.

And yeah, The Curious Case of Hamster Hammond gets curiouser and curiouser...

No way has Schumi been the Stig all this time. Don't they rotate drivers?

They knocked off the Black Stig by driving him off an air carrier if I remember correctly. I'm pretty sure we've had the same Stig for the last four seasons. Or at the very least many Stigs with very similar body types.

Most Formula 1 and sub- 1 drivers have similar body types (short arse; all dick and bone), the whole reason for "the stig" is so that they can use whatever driver is available without breaching that driver's contract with Ferrari or whoever. Damon Hill has admitted to being the stig for a while and now that Schum has retired he's free to "reveal" himself as the stig.

I'm looking forward to Hamster's voice un-breaking.

It's really just a stunt. Schumacher would have been too busy flying all over the world for the F1 races during his active years to drop by the track every couple of weeks.
And the only reason they had him on is because Ferrari doesn't trust anyone else to test drive that new car they brought in for the show. The damn thing literally is a cross between an Enzo and their F1.

Schumi is too tall anyway to be the Stig if you compare them.
I have to agree this is one of the best shows on tv. I just wish they did more challenges. If they dumped the interview I would be happy

Correct. Rumour has it there are four stigs in rotation at the moment, with Ben Collins being identified as one. The only reason Schumi was there is because that FFX is his own car. It's easily identified as his, as it's the only FFX without a racing stripe. It isn't a new car either; it was presented to him after he retired in 2006.

I'd like to aplogise for Top Gear Australia then, it's very bloody ordinary.

Stephen Fry on Top Gear = best program ever.

Hyperbole aside another great eppisode last night. The buy and insure a car for a 17 year old was classic. Plus the drag race between the Mclaran F1 on the streets of Dubi.

Gotta love how these guys get permission to do this stuff.

It's more of a comedy show than a car one but multiple parts of it. Hammond's "No accident in the past five years", the Stig photocopying his head in the background and the car stereo prank were hilarious.

Not to mention having a Murcielago SV, a Bugatti Veyron, a McLaren-Mercedes SLR and a McLaren F1 in the same episode and having a 180mph drag race through a city.

Fucking with a man's car stereo like that should be punishable by death. But holy shit it was funny.

I only just caught Stig out of the corner of my eye and had to go back and confirm I saw what I thought I saw . . . this episode was hilarious from go to whoa.

Stephen Fry may be the best guest in history. He looked amazing too

Just caught up with this series on iPlayer and its just so great. My favourite thing on telly now.

I laughed like a drain when Clarkson pushed his car into the glass shed thing

The film of that rally driver was amazing, the car was going sideways more than straight! That shot of the car, bike and plane in super slo-mo must have been doctored in some way, right? Incredbile if not.

Heh, Clarckson is right. The Roomster's window really does look like it came from a Stratos.

Drug Dealers car vs Brittish Army = brilliant action sequence. Seriously, why arn't more film makers using the Top Gear crew for their stunt work? That chase sequence was genunally thrilling.

The new Porsce vs a letter, funny but not up to their normal challanges.

I think Nick pointed out that the action in a single episode of Top Gear is better then the action in most movies of the last ten years.

Their storytelling is way better than a lot of movies as well. The Vietnam trip was a brilliant bit f storytelling. Plus, it's amazingly edited and the sound is superb.

That's exactly my point. These guys are damn good at what they do and its a wonder that they havent been asked to help out on film sets.
Oh man, that last segment made me realize how much I miss shooting .50 cal machineguns.
It really is just stupidly entertaining.

Jay Leno's the SIARPC next week, I believe. Should be a good one!

I wonderd if anything was going to come of James May visiting Leno last season, I think with the kind of exporsure Top Gear is starting to get we may see the calibre of guest going out.

Plus anyone who can help force Simon Cowl down the leaderbord is a good thing.

No Leno but we did get a brilliant challange with rear wheel drive cars. And Sienna Miller was a nice replacement.

I want the new Jag to up my Cad Status.
Sweet, the Morris Marina is back! Hammond's line about it had me crying from laughter. Also Oliver Panis' "What is this shitbox?" Great race between the M5 and the Jag, too. Fucking two tonne cars shouldn't be able to go like this.

Loved Clarkson's joy at actually fixing something.
I loved Clarkson's joy, and the fact that it didn't blow up right afterwards. I also loved that James was a jerk.

James May and a glamour model = comedy gold.

Part of me hopes he actually did pull her at the end of that race.
Great Star in a Car this week with Brian Johnson. The guy's a class act and Clarkson clearly has a man crush on him.
Brian Johnson ripping up the track! If only he was a tenth of a second faster.

The challenge was hilarious beyond words. Especially with the addition of bored model, sarcastic dwarf and maths Spaniard. And May's line at the track "We're only doing it to the closest second" and Clarckson's reaction were priceless.

This was on the BBC website yesterday - Typical James May.

This is the same man who built a garden out of plasticine and entered it into the Chelsea Flower show.

He may be Captain Slow but he has a sharp sense of humour.
Don't forget that he also won the last couple of challenges, I think.

We're finally getting episode one of season 13 right now on aussie TV and I have to say

I was never into cars

I know nothing about cars

...but I love the ever living shit out of this show.

It is pure, concentrated entertainment.

Love the hell out of it.

The race to Edinburgh is leaving me in hysterics.
I came into this episode at about the halfway point, not even realising the show was back on TV. Motherfucker! Especially galling after my hoon-mate has been crowing about this first episode being one of the best ever AND I MISSED HALF OF IT! Looking forward to the next 6 eps, going on the thread posts so far.
