This is pretty racist.

I just had to post this here, for some non-Canadian reactions. We have Doctors Without Borders here in Manitoba, because our health care workers won't do their jobs up north. Often Doctors Without Borders are found in areas suffering racial genocide. Really, considering the majority of those I've spoken to, I'm pretty sickened by those around me.

A mention of this brought up exclamations at work like a fucking Klan meeting - the moderate ones will preface their racial rants about the "useless" Aboriginals with mention that they realize they're discriminating - but Aboriginals really are what they say, as if their views are permissible if they admit they're singling out an ethnic group. This is obvious, except it's expressed as a false guilt for a prejudice they could start shedding if they wanted to. And I've found it in many, many places.

Seriously, I would expect lynchings if Aboriginals were subject to the "insidious controllers of the world" image and not the "filthy mooching bum" one.

I'm a little confused by the article, so maybe you could clear some things up for me, I think I may have just been reading it wrong/skim reading it.

But is this Doctors Without Borders an international group? Ie, are they a Canadian group that does work in other countries?

And by 'Aboriginals' are you talking about Australian Aboriginals? Or... Canadian Aboriginals? I didn't even know Canada had an 'Aboriginal' community.

"Aboriginals" is a catch-all term for any people that were living somewhere before The White Devils showed up to relieve them of their burdens.

I'm guessing that the aboriginals referred to in the story would be Inuit.

Doctors Without Borders are an international group.

Canadian Aboriginals...I'm surprised they are obscure to you. I use the general term because those of indigenous backgrounds are treated the same.

EDIT:

Nevermind the "surprised", didn't know the terminology was rare elsewhere..

Yeah, sorry. I'm in New Zealand, so whenever we hear 'Aboriginals', it's always in reference to the Australian variety.

Had no idea that the Canadians referred to the inuits as Aboriginals.

The term 'aboriginal' gets bandied about for Inuit, First Nations (what Americans call Indians), and sometimes even Metis. In Manitoba, if they are using the term it's refering to First Nations. And as always, when the term gets used on the CBC news comments, it's a racial epithet. That place is a great source for news but holy crap the comments are about 1 million times worse that Talkbacks and Barren Chat combined.
