This story, basis for the CREEPSHOW segment starring Mr. King, was originally published in the porno mag Cavalier in 1976. It is now available for free on the mag website-- for how long, I don't know

Good little short story. A little silly, but I like it.

I'm watching Creepshow for the first time right now on Youtube, and Jesus Christ, ten seconds into this weeds story is absurd.

I know it's unfair to say, but I hope Frank Darabont is adapting Stephen King material for the rest of his career. He brings such a serious believability to these occasionally absurd stories. The Mist is one of my favorite films of the past few years. Really want to see The Long Walk.

Which would be the completely wrong approach for something like "Creepshow". In order to function as an homage to the old E.C. Comics, the stories in "Creepshow" need to be a little silly and absurd. A heavy-handed and serious approach to the material would only result in an obnoxious self-parody.

Which is fine, but I was thinking along the lines of The Long Walk. The thing is the way the story is written is as the eating you from the inside out virus boy horror variety. A young director could have adapted the concept into a creepy tale, or the incredibly corny way over the top Creep show version. For Creep show it was fine.

At least I've seen it, and I know what the hell people are talking about when they reference it. I'm one step further away from other young guys like Alex Billingfuck.

Fuck, now I gotta read this. I am chagrined to admit I had always thought this story was originally penned for the Creepshow script. I had no idea it was an adaptation of sorts.
