Chicago Chewers, Lets See The Room!

The Music Box is having Midnight Screenings of Tommy Wiseau's instant cult classic "The Room" on July 26th and 27th. Any Chicago Chewers down with picking a date to see it?

I might be down for this. Don't know how I feel about the "audience participation" thing that's cropped up around the film, but The Room is stunning and would no doubt benefit from the opportunity to experience it with more people than you can fit in your rumpus room.

A reminder that shit is going down this weekend, the 24th and 25th (not 26th and 27th as I previously reported). What day works best for you folks?

I won't be able to make it. Sorry, boys.

Something just came up for Friday, so I'm gonna go see it Saturday.

I can probably make it, but I'm damn sure not gonna be sober.

Actually, something came up on Saturday night, so I'd have to do it tomorrow. Is this weekend the only time it's playing?

I'm sure it will be back, but last month and this month are the only showings currently scheduled.

This was such a blast. I'm not usually much for the audience participation thing, but the footballs and spoons were fairly amusing. And as for the movie itself...holy hell, I didn't think it could really be as bad as all that, but it was. Just stunningly incompetent on every level, but no one can hold a candle to Wiseau himself and his bizarre, never acknowledged accent and hairdo. Too bad we couldn't get more chewers there, but the squares I drug with me loved it anyway.

Good to here. Carly managed to talk 3 other lucky so and so's to come out with us, so we're looking forward to it.

Was it sold out? Will we have to get there early to get tickets/seats that aren't in the front row?

It was pretty full, but not wall-to-wall. But the crowd was all there pretty early, so you should be too if you're concerned about seating (not that I think it matters much for a situation like this).

I didn't hate the audience participation as much as I thought I would, but the screaming got to be a bit much. I did like that, before the film was screened, people in the audience were encouraged to share their songs and poetry inspired by the film.

As for the film, holy shit. That first sex scene had as much gross-out comedy impact as the entirety of Borat. I've seen more than my share of unpleasant looking men naked (like anyone who watches amateur porn), but the context of softcore erotica just made it that much more unpleasant.

Even more uncomfortable was the constant gratuitous shots of Lisa's breasts. I feel really bad for Juliette Danielle, who's career has to have been killed by this. Not to mention how insanely unflattering the photography was.

Some truly wonderful establishing shots though. The film's practically a 2nd unit director reel.

A must-see, for sure, but I have to wonder if seeing it with a crowd

The great thing about the establishing shots is that they aren't actually establishing anything. It would cut from a scene at the apartment, then spend 30 seconds re-establishing that we are still in San Francisco, then...right back to the apartment.
