Slashers That Didn't Catch On - Page 2

Everybody knows Norman Bates, but too few Peeping Tom, Mark Lewis.

How come none of the demonic car movies (i.e THE CAR & CHRISTINE) got a well-deserved franchise? Could watch those evil suckers run over teenagers all day long!

A Beethoven-like series for Cujo? He's rabid, but we still love that crazy darn dog!(Darkmite8 tribute!)

The ice skating scene from CURTAINS is genuinely creepy. Plus, the killer has a hand scythe, which always wins you points in my book.

Dee Snider? As in Twisted Sister's Dee Snider?

Where is that movie and how can I make it mine?

It was attempted...

It's still too early to tell, but, given Lionsgate's shoddy treatment and resultant lack of box office draw, I doubt we'll ever see the further adventures of Mahogany/The Butcher from Midnight Meat Train.

Yep, that Dee Snider.

EDIT: Check the trailer (they spell his name wrong for some reason)

It's terrible. Only recommended if you're into seeing Linda Cardellini tortured for 90 minutes.

You forgot to mention that she is naked in a cage for at least the first 1/3 of the movie... Pretty sure she isn't getting tortured the whole movie, just the beginning.

If you like bad horror movies, you'll like it. If you like Dee Snider, you will definitely like it.

While I don't highly reccomend it by any means, there are much better horror movies out there, but it's worth watching once.

EDIT: Plus the soundtrack has Pantera, Marilyn Manson, System of a Down, Kid Rock with Eminem, Anthrax, etc.

Does Leslie Vernon count? Always wanted to see that team try and deconstruct the way killers operate in sequels. With the addition of mythology, bigger kill counts, etc.
It's just a shame BEHIND THE MASK wasn't better.

It's just a shame you can't appreciate great films.
BTM was pretty great, especially in its usage of Psycho Killer. I wonder how a sequel would even work, though. Straight horror?

I watched the trailer. I take it back.

The first half was pretty great, the latter half not so much. In regards to BTM.

Is there a stance on Dr. Giggles?

I'm not trying to be snide, I found that one so slight, I'm surprised anyone remembers it at all. Didn't work for me as either horror or comedy, let alone both.

Stop knocking my taste in films, internet guy.

BTM was lots of fun until about the last act. I know the change in style was deliberate but it completely lost me.

The change worked for me, and not just because I wanted survivor girl to survive, but weirdly because at that point I'd come to like Leslie Vernon as a character and didn't want to see him turn into psycho killer.

I thought it did a great job of being meta, yet still having a finale that was still a little unnerving.

The third act didn't work because it didn't look like a slasher movie. All the kills occurred offscreen.

DR. GIGGLES is a mind-boggling tapestry of doctor related puns. Just when you think the writers have run out of them, they unleash another batch. It really is masterful. It makes the ice punning of BATMAN AND ROBIN look like punster amateur hour. Plus there's a really disturbing scene in the middle where baby Giggles bursts through his mother's corpse or something (details are fuzzy, I tend to favor the grape while watching dumb horror). For these reasons plus Larry Drake's virtuoso performance, I am fond of DR. GIGGLES.

Also because the survivor girl literally becomes retarded.

That pitchfork in the shower really is quite brutal. Seems The Prowler was so pissed he took out his most anger on the first two people he encountered.

I've always wanted to see Curtains. I remember going to Terrortrap.com waaay back around 2001 or so and reading about it, and getting it confused with Stagefright. I really want to check out Curtains.

What about the the mountain man twins from Just Before Dawn? This flick could have been the earliest incarnation of what Wrong Turn turned into a franchise. There could have been more creepy mountain folk with whistles.

Right after she literally shit her pants.

Actually, Mirriam Webster recognizes "literally" as its own antonym now. What's the world coming to?
What, you don't remember the scene where she starts crying and asking for her juice-cup?
I was thinking I maybe missed the scene at the end when she got the flu and chugged a bottle of aspirin.

Edit: Mirriam Webster can go gag on my balls. When did they capitulate to these troglodytes?

Apparently the world missed out on the Dee-rector's cut of the original, but someone was willing to throw 10 million dollars at making this new one:

""I’ve run into so many obstacles. I’m at that point now where I’m going, 'Can I even take a hint? Am I capable of taking a hint?' It was green-lit back in…1998? Well, right after the first one came out, anyway. But we started working on the script, we started looking for directors, and then the company that did it – The Shooting Gallery – they were indicted by the federal government for an Enron-like situation. Their CFO was arrested. All properties were seized, and I spent seven years in the courts, just getting my creative properties, because the government just takes everything, and they dissolve everything. And during that time, everybody and their mother was going, 'Oh, man, if you ever get that back, we’d love to do it, we’d love to do it, we’d love to do it!' And, then, it was like all the girls who want to date you when you’re going out with someone else. 'Hey, I’m available!' 'Uh, not a good time. Yeah, we’re not doing that anymore. Torture films are out.' And, then, after that, I had a deal for an extended DVD release of the first 'Strangeland' with Lionsgate, and then the frigging director who fucked it up the first time (John Pieplow) wielded his Director’s Guild right to first re-edit. We wanted to do an extended DVD and call it the Dee-rector’s cut, but I won’t let the guy near it, and it scared off Lionsgate, because they don’t wanna get fucking involved with the Director’s Guild. So I’m right at this point right now where I’m, like, y’know what? (Sighs) Maybe I should just let it go. I’ll put a sign on my website that says, 'Y’got ten million dollars? Give me a call. I’ve got the script ready to go, Robert Englund’s attached, I’m attached. If somebody’s serious and wants to make it, call me. But don’t call me ‘til you’re ready to hand the check over.'"

EDIT: "Strangeland: Disciple, is set to begin shooting in the fall of 2009 and is slated for a 2010 release."
I would of seriously watched more flicks starring 'Olaf' aka 'The Sinful Dwarf'.

Masks?...Who needs fucking masks?

Oh, joy! The only way I can conceive of ever wanting to watch this is if I feel the need to better appreciate Rob Zombie's movies in comparison.

It seemed that Sony was trying to make the dude in the slicker from I Know What You Did Last Summer into an iconic character, but that plan went awry when the sequel flopped.

Not to mention that he's about as scary as an episode of Goober & The Ghost Chasers.

Or if I remember correctly, the kills that were shown amounted to people getting poked in the neck.

Sleepaway Camp

How can anyone forget that final reveal at the end of Sleepaway Camp?

The Chick with the Dick?!
Yeah, there really aren't that many transsexual slasher villains. Somebody needs to get on the case and bring it!
You can only pull that trick once. Which didn't stop them from somehow making sequels anyway. None of which, I am proud to say, I have seen.

Norman Bates not good enough for ya?

EDIT: upon reflection, Norman was more transvestite. I apologize for the mistake.
The funny thing is that I was at the local Samgoody (they still exist here) and I saw Sleepaway Camp for $5.99, but passed on it.

Never seen the 2nd or 3rd one, but Return To Sleepaway Camp was total ass. Piece of shit. Avoid.
Supposedly there are two more Sleepaway Camp films on the horizon too.

Also, Maniac Cop.

Don't multiple sequels mean they "caught on"?
Maniac Cop caught on, it got capped off as a trilogy, but the character of Matt Cordell was carried through all three. Speaking of Maniac Cop, I think we should expect the announcment of a remake w/in the next year or two.

Edit: What Phil said.

Also, I bring this one up a lot b/c it's a favorite, but KILLER PARTY. It's supernatural, body-hopping antagonist is practically made to be sequelized, but no dice.

Well shit, I completely forgot there were sequels for Maniac Cop.

When I first saw it all the way through, the possessed girl scared the crap out of me. This flick needs a dvd release too. Paramount should license it to Legend films, like all the others they've licensed.

The movie was cut to ribbons too. The Bee boys were a hoot, though.
