New Alice in Chains song "A Looking in View" on iTunes

What a way to start the day. I'm not sure the song needs to be seven minutes long, but it's great to hear these guys together again. William Duvall seems pushed back in the mix, but his voice sounds pretty good. This is my first exposure to him.

Anyway, I started off not caring that AIC was recording new material, now I'm really anticipating this new album.

What, did they dig Layne up or something?

Phew, not bad. At least they didn't go the Rockstar: INXS/Supernova route. I was seriously worried at one point. The vox work for me. This could be a good sign!

Alice in Chains always suffered from Long Song Syndrome.

You didn't pay for this, did you? I thought it was free on their website?

I dig it. Sounds more like the old stuff than I would have expected, vocal-wise. I'm not sure if that's a plus or negative at the moment though.
He will be writing songs about heroin right? It wouldn't be Alice in Chains if he didn't.

He got better.

In all seriousness, his decline and death was really fucking sad. i don't feel sorry for him per se, I've dealt with junkies, but it's just depressing. Either no one cared, or everyone gave up(which I understand too).

I've never had that problem with AIC. Maybe some of the Jar of Flies stuff, which would actually be my favorite album of theirs if it weren't an EP.
This would apply more to someone like Tool(yet it's an aspect of their appeal).

It is. Just got it from there.

Not really, if any album of theirs suffered from that it would be the self titled album.

Nah, that's "we're alllmost out of the 80's but not quite" syndrome.

Seriously, find some of AIC's pre-record deal stuff, it's hilarious. I recommend "Football".

What are you talking about? The self titled was done in '95, and has 6, 7, 8 minute long songs.

Derrrrrrr.... I'm an idiot. Thinking of Facelift. Goddamn bands that release self-titled albums later in their careers.
You're right, that does meander on several tracks. And the way Layne was sounding on some of them, they probably had him propped up next to the mic with a board.

Wouldn't be that surprised if it was true, I mean isn't that basically what they did with when they did their Unplugged set?
This song's greatest surprise is the fact that it's a song, as opposed to a some sort of "hey, we are cashing on a brandname" collection of sounds.

I don't know the story behind that one, but I know that Layne sounded better on it than most of the self titled. Great MTV Unplugged, probably my second favorite.

"Over Now" is my favorite track on the self-titled, and there's no Layne to be found. Didn't Cantrell do a second solo disc? If so I never heard it. The first one was decent but not overly memorable, with a few exceptions.

I'm pretty partial to "Heaven Beside You" myself.

AS for Cantrell, he put out Degradation Trip a few years and then reissued the album as a two discer. Personally I think they are pretty solid albums.

So, Opeth finally released their cover of "Would?", and it's pretty damn good in my view.

That's a great find Bub. Awesome cover.

I definitely dig this track. I had hope that AIC could release another good album; glad to hear that's still within the realm of possibility.

I guess the new album is dropping the last week of September. I really like the first single.
