Red Wings play in their home country of Sweden today. Should be a fun game.

yeah I have no room to talk I went to last night's Carolina game to see them lose 2-0 to philly. That was pretty awful.

Bs up 3-0 in the first vs the 'Canes.

If you were a Bruins fan would you be dancing naked on the rooftops?
well no. The hurricanes totally look like shit right now.

Of course I think the whole story of the game is how the Bruisers took Erik Cole out with 2 minutes left in the game. We still don't know the extent of his injuries, but the way his knee buckled in the review it looks awful. What a weak move by Boston.

I guess they couldn't find Scott Walker.
Luckily it was just a leg fracture. Cole will be out 4-6 weeks.

The funny thing about that game is that one of the Hurricanes goals was a pass from Aaron Ward to a tip in from Scottie Walker. I guess they have hugged and made up.

They play tampa bay tomorrow night (i'll be going to that game too and I pray they get their first win).

Fun game last night watching two awful teams Carolina and Tampa Bay play each other.

The highlight of the night? Mike Smith goalie for Tampa Bay literally putting a Hurricane in a Headlock. He got called for a penalty 5 minutes after a jumbotron review of the incident. That dude is the scariest goalie in the NHL.
At least the Pens took away the sting of St. Louis losing in baseball.
Carolina Hurricanes continue to suck into worstness. BIG GAME Friday night to see who is the worst NHL team in the league. Carolina vs Toronto!
Dear Pens,

I know you're A Game and 2/3's into your California trip, but a sweep would help soothe the sting of depression I'm feeling at the moment.

Thank you

How they got worse than the Leafs, I'll never understand.
My cable provider just dumped Versus. So my chances of seeing the odd Bruins game went from slim (Versus has ESPNitis - doesn't realize there are teams other than Det, Phi, and Colorado) to nil.

Not that the Bs have been all that worth watching so far this year.
Yay! The Hurricanes actually beat the Minnesota Wild. I think their playoff chances are over, but maybe they can at least start getting their act together. Getting Manny Legace as a goalie probably didn't help though.

The only bright side: Brandon Sutter is the future of the NHL. I just hope we can get some good guys to build the team around because I think the whole Carolina fanbase is over Staal.

What's up with Staal?
He's sucked this season and turns out he has an upper body injury and has been out of the line-up for 2 weeks and probably won't be back until December.
It was Marian Hossa day and he delivered. He scores 2 goals in his debut and the Hawks beat up the Sharks 7-2.

They really staked their claim as best in the West which is weird coming from the Hawks.

And the guy the Hawks let go(Havlat) to get Hossa has 2 goals in 19 games for the Wild and is a -14.

I do agree the Hawks are very good but I think it's very early to call them best in the West over the Sharks.

They beat them twice already. How are they not better?

Twice is not that much and there's only a quarter of the season done. It's too quick to make such a call.

After watching the Maple Leafs play Buffalo tonight, I have to say that I'm impressed with the way Miller plays. If he stays healthy for the Olympics, I can see Team USA surprising a lot of people.

He's been fantastic all year, and the main reason the Sabres are fighting for the division. I could easily see him carrying a US team to a medal. (Granted, he should have been the starter in 2006, but that's my admittedly biased opinion.)
Yeah the Canes are horrible, but it sure feels great to get our first win on the road by Shutting down the Penguins. FEEL OUR SHAME!
Gah, this thread's been too long gone!

Lundqvist and Brodeur had an epic duel on Broadway last night. Devils get the win, 1-0 in 4th round of shootout. The man is a machine. Some crazy, puck stopping machine.
Staal has stepped up for the Canes too. During the Toronto game last night, the announcers were excited to see him playing for the Canadian team.

We beat you in the World Junior Championship, we can be--aah, who am I kidding? Am looking forward to Olympic hockey, wasn't so into the sport last time the Games swung through.
The US and Russian teams are great, but the Canadian team... fuck...

I hope we rape you all.
It was pretty tough to catch much of the hockey in the last Olympics. I think almost every game was in the middle of the day here. Hopefully this time around since it's closer to Eastern time than Italy I can catch a few of them.
I seriously doubt the Americans have much of a chance to medal this year.

On another note, I would love very much to vent about my beloved Stars, but I simply do not have the energy to do so.
Here is a story about the Finland Team from Canescountry.com since some of our boys will be playing Ruutu (if he gets better and Pitkanen). I hope Jokinen gets called up as he is the man.
I can't fucking wait. I'm trying to find a Ryan Miller jersey that will get to the UK before February 16th. Best case scenario, he carries them to a medal.

If the official site is correct, then the US plays at 3pm EST twice and once at 7:45 pm EST (the Canada game). (Which is doubly awesome for me, as I don't have to get up in the middle of the night, like I did for Nagano. Ah, memories.)

If the Wiki page is right, then any medal round games the US plays will be at 3pm EST... unless they end up playing in the gold or bronze medal game.

With Miller in goal and a focus on youth, I believe the US team could surprise many teams. I wouldn't be surprised if they got a medal.
Anyone see Cam Ward go for the save sans helmet? I love that guy. Wish he had a bit more consistency.

One of the things I think could play into the American's hands is the fact that they aren't playing on Olympic sized ice this year, but are just sticking with the ice pad that's already in place at the GM Place. I get the feeling that this could stifle some of the European teams. Combine that with a hot goalie, which a team could ride out through this tourny, and the American's can do very well for themselves.
Both my Miller jersey and a copy of the Hockey News Olympic preview issue are on the way, via a friend back home. I found a Nike alternate design, which is based on the 1960 jersey, on Ebay for $90. It beats the $180 they were charging through the team store.
THe Blackhawks are playing great but these pics are going to haunt them.
Kane, Versteeg, Madden

Patrick Kane

The Blackhawk players are young so they don't know that the women are suppose to be the ones with their shirts off. And that the groupies are suppose to be hot.
Ha, those Kane photos are pretty awesome... can't be upset with the guy, he's enjoying, that's for sure. Plus he and Miller are really the only chances that USA has to win a few games.
Is it just me or do the NBC announce team have a very noticeable pro Pittsburgh bias?
You mean aside from them starting the broadcast with Pierre "penis with glasses" Mcguire verbally fellating Ovechkin?

This should make the afternoon more interesting:
What the fuck is wrong with pronouncing a European team's name the way it's pronounced locally?
That's fantastic, I should print that out and tack it to to my wall for the Olympic coverage.

Because he's doing it not for accuracy, but to be a know-it-all fuckwit.

And yeah, NHL on NBC and Versus (which, as a DirecTV owner I am forced to stream all games online illegally) both suck out loud.
Oh shit Ovechkin smashed the goal cam!

I really don't get this. Should McGuire mispronounce those name on purpose so he doesn't stick out of the pack of stupid, ignorant diots that form the majority of hockey analysts? Many also complain about this here in Québec but they also complain when the hosts on CBC mispronounce french names.
You definitely do have a good point, but you have to keep in mind that it's a drinking game that solely exists to hate on Pierre by any means necessary. Besides, it just seems a bit over the top that a guy that was born in Jersey goes out of his way to use the "proper" pronunciation. It's the whole Denis Leary rant about croissant vs croissantwich.

And wow is Bruce surlier than usual today. Maybe his favorite pizzeria wasn't able to deliver yesterday.

Quite the showdown between the Pens and Capitals eh.

I understand your point, but decent commentators will do their job correctly, going out of their way to find out how to spell names they'll have to repeat several time over a game, let alone a season.

But Mike Milbury is the shittiest of them all. And his attempt at saying Crosby is better than Ovechin when the Pens were leading 2-0 backfired on his ass big time. What a moron.

Nic Wallin left the Canes to play in San Jose. I hope he gets to taste the cup again.
