Deep Rising

I guess in the career of every Director, there's always one movie which you can call your best.

As EVENT HORIZON was Paul W Anderson peak, I suppose you could say that DEEP RISING is Stephen Sommers best flick.

A nice Monster flick. Though Kevin J O'Connor is still as annoying as ever. Strange choice of Treat Williams as a leading man though, I though he was relegated to DTV flicks by then.

Heard that Claire Forlani was originally supposed to play Famke Janssen's role but walked off after three days of shooting.

I wonder what happened?

Treat Williams is perfect in this role. I love this movie a lot. Entertaining as fuck. You're right though. Sommers hasn't topped this yet. Don't think he will.

Still, I wanna see that sequel on the island.

For me it's a toss up between this and the first Mummy movie as being his best.

I was bored out of my tree one day and went down to the local cineplex to see what cheap matinees were playing. I remember looking at the posters and having to decide between Hard Rain,Spice World,Desperate Measures and Deep Rising. Since I am a bit of movie monster fan the choice was easy.

Deep Rising was beyond what I could have expected. In a good way. It was like a classic 50s B monster movie. I had a lot of fun way more than I should have.

Solid B movie

imdb trivia would have you believe:
In the original script, John Finnegan's catchphrase was "what now?" In the film it was changed to "now what?"

PREPOSTEROUS!

Love this flick. Still waiting for a packed DVD (in vein), and a sequel (also in vein). I guess I'll just have to imagine the TV series LOST was constructed to give me closure.

When people around here and elsewhere talked positively about Sommer's 'Deep Rising' I always assumed it was one of the two (other) aliens of the deep movies back in the late 80's, and I remember really digging one of those.

So the other day I decided to rent "Deep Rising" and to my surprise discovered it was an entirely different and newer release.

What a fucking travesty!!! I cannot believe anyone would like this piece of trash. Not even in a B-movie like mindset did I find enything enjoyable about.

The other two movies I was thinking about was "Deep Star Six" and "Leviathan". I have to revisit both of those now and see how they hold up.

I disagree with every molecule of my being.

Deep Rising is easily as good as Deep Star Six and Leviathan. The tentacles didn't age well, though.

Oh how I hoped, POSEIDON would secretly be a remake of Deep Rising. Just imagine. Kurt Russell and The Dreyfuss vs ... whatever it was meant to be. Add Fergie in a bikini (and tons of make-up, think Grindhouse) and you got a win-win situation.

This movie is da bomb! Fun fucking time. Sommers made a really cool monster romp. Wes Studi was cool-as-hell and thank god, he shot that annoying mechanic. Though, his ass survived. Still funny.

FUNNIEST FUCKING DEATH SCENE EVER!

Djimon Hounsou opens the vault door. WHACK! Axe to his cranium. I LOL'd so hard. Also, the exchange that occurs.

Loved this movie back in high school! My friends and I actually saw it in the theater and we had a blast. Re-watched the DVD quite a few time too. About time they release a SE DVD or a Blu-Ray. So much better than all of Sommer's newer stuff. They set it up at the end for a sequel that never happened which is too bad.

Couldn't be more
