Psych Season 4

Friday August 7th Psych returns with season 4.

I don't remember it starting this late last summer. Mohinder from Heroes looks to be in one of the first episodes.. I hope that's not a bad thing.

Anyway I'm pysched for it to be back on tv!
My wife has been asking me about this every Friday since the first of June. Previously, it had started the second week of July so it is a little odd. I'm very excited though.

Wait, what?! I have to wait until August to get my fix? When does the Season 3 DVD come out?
July 21st according to my Netflix queue.
So according to the Comic-Con panel David Naughton is showing up in an episode which may or may not be "Werewolf themed". Given that he's occasional guest director surely they need John Landis back?

Also guest starring, Cary Elwes and James Brolin (In a western themed episode).

I've got my TiVo set, hopefully this show will continue its greatness.

the 21 days of Psych or whatever it is called has some pretty cool stuff... Today's bit of info is a Lassiter high school photo bio.
Wow, according to that panel Ray Wise and Thomas Wilson are in this Season. And if they get another Season (Which they should), Roday and Franks have a Twin Peaks episode ready to go.
I would hope they would do another episode with Weber as Shawns Uncle. That episode from last year may be my favorite from the entire show's run.
It also has the best title ever "The greatest adventure in the History of basic cable".
The best thing this show has ever done was Gus and Shawn breaking out into an Al B Sure song after asking what Al B sure would do. I love the musical bloopers.

And yes, Weber was great but so was Gary Cole in his episode.
What with the constant pop culture references, this show should be one of my most hated, but instead I've got nothing but love.

Never realized how much I loved these characters until that season finale from last year, when Jules pretty much confessed her love to Shawn. Kind of heartbreaking, even if in the next scene they had Gus intentionally cockblocking the situation with hot girl from She's All That whose name escapes me at this time.

Annie, are you okay, are you okay, Annie?
Yeah I don't think the finale worked that well. It seemed like maybe it would've made a good 2 parter and have more room to breathe. But the last 10 5-10 minutes were great, and Roday was great in showing Shawn has a depth to him that I don't think the other characters were aware of.
It took a while to get going but some pretty good stuff for the premiere. All the references to "Chief detective Spencer" were great.
Im getting the feeling that Shawn was dumped and hasn't told anyone yet. The one thing he could not see comming.

I was thinking the same thing. The wife and I loved the premiere. Cary elves was awesome as always but he needs to lay off the cheeseburger.

really loved the premiere.. just thought that there would be some Better Off Dead references during the snow ski scene.
One other thing you think Shawn would be super famous by now. He put a major serial killer in jail. People would be banging down his door
post #19 of 161
Awesome premiere. I thought it was really funny and a great way to start off the season. Excited to see the rest of the season.
It seemed a bit weird to have the season start the way it did but it was a fairly entertaining episode. Very bizarre to have almost every regular cast member traipsing up to Canada though.

I kept thinking the episode would end with Spencer admitting he got dumped but they never got there.

Yeah, it got a bit rediclious when his Dad shows up. I mean couldn't Lassiter or Jules bail them out?

He already is famous. He's the famous psychic paleo-sleuth that discovered that dinosaur skeleton while also solving a murder.

Maybe Bruton Gaster needs to take better photographs.
Tonight's episode should be pretty good. Its got both Christine Baranski and Rachael Leigh Cook scheduled to be in it. Hopefully we'll get some insight on Why Cook's character really didn't go up to Canada.
I still think they're spinning their wheels with the Rachel Leigh Cook thing. Necessary, perhaps, but I enjoy that subplot the least.

Regarding the premiere, I really think it was brilliant. The Mentalist jokes were the greatness, this episode was perhaps the most meta thing this show has done, and it never dropped the ball. Seriously, if there was an Emmy for genre deconstruction, the premiere episode would win it, hands down.

Extra bonus points for casting Ed Lauter, and I'm still trying to decide if it was just a way to reference Youngblood.

The culture club set up was excellent.

I guess the Gus and Shawn running in fear, has become a running gag... still funny.

edit: bahd spellr

the second episode BROUGHT IT.

firing on all cylinders.

"I'm ready for my flying lesson now"
The episode was OK but these first 2 episodes have felt a bit aimless to me. I've actually been finding myself more interested in Monk as they try to wrap the series up.
The theme gets me in such a good mood that I can't help love this show, no matter the content of the episode.

Luckily the content is still great.
Jazz Hands was great. Gus sold it with the hands shaking in the air. I really liked the Baranski stink eye as well. I though the premiere was a bit better though. And I must say that Rachel Leigh Cook looks fantastic. My wife yelled at me for drooling when she was on the other day.

Does anyone else feel that the cops are wasted this season? I feel that the overall precinct is taking a backstage to Gus and Shawn a little too much. Lassiter always kills when he is on and he just isn't on that much anymore. And Jules' character seems like a waste these days.
It was the same at the start of S3 I noticed, Jules was hardly in it.
I could easily be due to other commitments. But at Comic Con it was mentioned that Lassiter and Shawn's father work together soon. So I'm guessing they'll etch them back in. Plus we know we'll be seeing more of Jules when Leigh Cook's arc is over.

On that note I really wish they didn't go down that road. There's no real reason to get them together other than he's a man and she's a woman.
Any reason to see more Maggie Lawson on my TV is fine by me.
Agreed Lassiter is pretty brilliant on the show, and I enjoy whenever he gets some screen time. Seems like he'll have a decent sized role in tonights episode. He asks Shawn and Gus for some help, because his dad thinks theres a ghost in in Wild-West themed town.
I was shocked no BTTF 3 nods or anything

very fun episode. I loved Lassie's attempt at out-shawning Shawn.

and seeing the sheriff from Harper's Island NOT playing the sheriff was great.

but honestly the Psych-out of Wishing Well had me crying with laughter.
The campfire nod to Blazing Saddles was good as well as a Ghostbusters nod (given Ernie Hudson being on the show before)
"You guys don't call him Binky?"
"We do NOW."
I actually found Lassiter's response to the tourists after he shot Stinky Pete to be the most hilarious part of the episode.
Lots to love last night but so far everything this season just feels off. Maybe it's just me.
It's just you.
No, I agree. I think the season hasn't felt quite right.
Most shows seem to have an early "season 4 struggle" imho. Can be tough to keep up a level of greatness.
I think the creators understand the real money of the show is the interaction between the leads and the co-stars.

Much like Monk, Shalhoub continued to give amazing performances but the mysteries just became so boring and hackneyed and could only support audience interest for so long.

Unlike Monk, it seems that the Psych creative staff are just throwing together situations (very haphazardly) to initiate some jokes...and I kinda like it. Even though the mystery this last week was pretty shitty, the jokes, one liners, and interactions were on key. Thats the reason I love this show. Not because of the psychic gimmick or the "intersting" mysteries.

Best psych out of the year so far! I was laughing out loud when they started doing Wishing Well. And then when they started passing the rocks on beat, hilarious. For anyone who missed it, it's up on the website.
Amazing episode. Ray Wise? Exorcism theme? Spider walking? Finger guns? Shawn impersonating Gus? Henry addicted to computer games? Jingles?

That's a recipe for win.
It really was a great episode last night. This show is just great when they're firing on all cylinders.
