I saw news footage of one of the young kids describing the reaction of the pool members upon seeing the campers arrive. It just about broke my heart. Imagine being a 10 year old black kid who's excited about going to a pool - a good one, not a crappy inner city public pool - and the parents start taking their kids out of the pool and making racist comments right in front of you about the danger you pose to their kids. This is the type of stuff that gives people complexes for years.
This is basically some early 20th century Jim Crow bullshit plain and simple, and it immediately made me think about the crap my grandmother, a WWII vet and retired government worker, had to deal with. I think the most infuriating part was the boldness with which the pool members could spout off their racist views without fear of embarrassment or consequences. This is the shit that happens in culturally homogenous areas and why diversity is a valuable ideal.

Besides, all the weekly and monthly talk would be for naught if, in this hypothetical world we're discussing, Oprah were to green light it as a recurring segment on her show.
