How About That Sanchez No-No?

First he only starts because Randy Johnson is hurt. Then you got his Dad in the stands. That catch in the 9th by Rowand. Just phenomenal.

Hello? Giants fans? How about just folks aware that baseball is played on the west coast? I’ll take what I can get.

The only base-runner came on an error. No hits, no walks, damn near a perfect game.

Had you told me that the Giants would get a no hitter this year I wouldn't have been surprised, what with a staff that included Matt Cain and three former Cy Young winners. Funny thing, baseball.

He definitely was the last guy on the staff you'd expect a no-hitter from. Hopefully he's made the right adjustments in the bullpen to now keep his spot in the rotation.

Bummer about the one error. But at least it was a clear no-doubt-about-it error and not just called an error because Sanchez had a no-hitter going.

Oh yeah, the third baseman totally pooched it, no doubt about it.

Sanchez was something like 2-6 going into that game.

Even worse, 2-8. He's floundered this year and last but they keep him around because, as he showed last night, when he's on he's way on. He's just had too many off nights this year which is why he was put in the pen the last couple weeks.

He's been the starter that has been talked about the most in terms of trading for another bat. But his performance through most of the year dropped his stock to almost zilch. Now after last night he won't get moved because the marketing people for the team are gonna want to milk more home starts out of the guy.

I'm more shocked that he didn't walk anybody than the zero hits thing.

The scary thing about the Giants is that they have four realtively young starting pitchers (including Sanchez, who was a strikeout machine last year) who are either signed or good amount of years away from free agency. If a few of their current minor league bats become productive big league hitters, they could have an early 90s Braves situation in the NL West.

Juan Uribe must feel like crap today.

Is he usually brought in as a defensive replacement, or was Bochy looking to give Sandoval the rest of the night off given the score?

Sandoval apparently had a sore back, so after breaking it open with his homer they took him out.

Uribe has been a good utility guy all year playing all over the infield so his versatility is his best asset. Just got eaten up by one last night.

White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle has a perfect game going into the 9th.
Well that wasn't a very nice thing to do.

Edit: Amazingly Dickson didn't jinx him.

One out away...

Perfect game!

That homer-robbing catch was something else. Dude was on his f'ing horse, hellbent on not letting that thing touch the ground.

Only the 18th perfect game in modern major league history, and the first since Randy Johnson in 2004.

I was out on my lunch break listening to WFAN on my iPhone, heard Buehrle had just thrown eight perfect innings, and immediately switched to the Chicago feed. Man, that entire sentence would’ve sounded like science fiction five years ago.

Glad I went with the local feed too, people can complain about homers—in the booth—all they want, but I can’t imagine changing anything about that Wise call.

[Edit: And one last thing, goddamn does Buehrle work fast, I all but forgot how quickly he worked.]
