Police Academy

Seeing this movie tonight unleashed a wave of nostalgia, it was one of perennial comedies of my youth. Steve Guttenberg, Kim Cattrall in the peak of her hotness, Leslie Easterbrook's magnificent rack, the blue oyster bar scene, the casual eighties nudity.

I'll admit, this film still made me laugh, the blowjob scene, the reaction to Harris's encounter with a horse. This film is no classic and unleashed a series of terrible and undeserved sequels on the populace that took years to recover from but god help me, I still laughed.

Dragon Ma, I also enjoy watching Police Academy. The best of the sequels is Police Academy 2, where Mahoney and co join Howard Hessman's precinct, and Bobcat Goldthwait's Zed is introduced a criminal before he eventually became a cop in Police Academy 3. I think that Bob G was a great addition to the cast of over the top characters in the series.

I think it's the casual racism and homophobia that really do it for me.

First movie tits I ever saw were during that beach party scene.

Saw the cartoon series as a kid long before i saw the movie so the tits/swearing/general mayhem was a very nice suprise

And its because of this movie that I still believe the Guttenberg gets a bad rap

First movie is great, not so sold on the others. Although the scene from the second film where the goldfish in the chinese takeaway still cracks me up.

It's Revenge of the Nerds with cops. It's not a good movie.

Revenge of the Nerds is Noel Coward compared to Police Academy.

Oh go drink a Boddington's Ed.

I used to love the hell out of these, especially the first three. I dread revisiting them though.

Let me rephrase what I mean. It's taking the structure of Revenge of the Nerds and using cops instead of college students. But it's nowhere as good as Nerds.

The first film has a number of genuinely funny moments in it. From what I've seen of the sequels, those funny moments were merely recycled in watered-down form.

MISSION TO MOSCOW is like watching a funeral for comedy itself.
Why in the fuck would you watch Mission to Moscow unless you want to see Christopher Lee get beer money?
As I recall, Rex Reed threatened to quit reviewing movies if they made a 6th PA film (he hated the 5th one THAT much). Supposedly, the 6th was made specifically to see if Rex would follow through on his threat.
If that was the case. I applaud the creators of Police Academy. However, it didn't stop Rex Reed from "reviewing" films.

Has Ron Perlman been in anything worse than this?

"Why do you think I took you to all those Police Academy movies? For fun? Well, I didn't hear anybody laughin', did you?"
revisiting this series for some reason or another.

The first one still holds up well. The others?? Well lets just pretend they don't exist. please?

I thought the second one had it's moments. I liked the escalation of violence during the Sweetchuck robbery and it was Bobcat Goldwaith's big Hollywood break. Without this movie, we might never have seen Hot to Trot.

Yeah the first two are A ok. God does it get unbearable at part 4 though.

I thought the trick gun shooting scenes in Police Academy 6: City Under Siege were really neat when I was 7.

I recently watched all 7 films in 3 days just because it was a long weekend it's amazing to watch how these films got worse with each addition, why did they stop making them, did the UN step in ?
hahaha why the fuck did you keep watching them

I picked the box set up dirt cheap and was pretty sure I hadn't seen 5 or Moscow. I posted on Facebook I was gonna do it so I couldn't pussy out no matter how much it hurt.
lol yea i did the same. though i got through the first 3 in a row, then had to take breaks that kept getting longer and longer. still haven't started Moscow. 6 Wasn't as bad as 5 or 4 were. 3 was alright, 2 was the second worse, and I'm pretty sure my memory of Moscow is pretty spot on with how bad it was.

Still, 1 seems to reign supreme.

I have weirdly fond memories of 3 and 4 but the idea finding out if they hold up scares the fuck out of me.
