I've never wanted to be in Philly so bad before in my life.

my wife gave me this Cd for my birthday yesterday. Nice Gift. Great Album. I'm listening to it all day at work and really enjoying it.

So, we didn't get 5 hours yesterday. We didn't get Springsteen or Neil Young or Andrew Wood or anyone else, rumored or otherwise. We got about 220 minutes and over 40 songs. We got the band dressed as Devo as they ripped through Whip It. We got shit they rarely play (Satan's Bed and Crown of Thorns) We got shit they almost never play (Pilate and Outta My Mind). We got shit they have never played (Sweet Lew and fucking Bugs).

A lot of bands won't play 100 songs total in 4 nights. They played over 100 different songs (plus they duplicated another 20 or so, I guess). And yet...I still heard complaining on the way out. "No Dirty Frank? What the fuck?" or "I heard The Fixer all 4 nights. I'm fucking sick of it." They can't fucking win with some people.

Oh, and I actually preferred Friday, set list-wise.

'Dirty Frank' isn't even that great of a song. One of their weaker tunes during the Ten era.

It was awful.

The Austin City Limits episode featuring Pearl Jam is premiering on PBS right...now.

I liked it, but the sequencing was really weird. I'm assuming the actual performance was about three times the length and they wanted to highlight Backspacer, but it just seemed weird for Pearl Jam to lean that heavily on the new material. Also, starting with two stripped-down ballads maybe wasn't the best move.

I was pleased and surprised to see how the rest of the band (particularly Cameron) has taken to adding background vocals. It's been a few years since I've seen them live (Riot Act tour, I think?), and I don't remember them being this prevalent.

Ugh.
Truth be told, I fell asleep. I recorded it, but I don't even know if I will go back and watch the rest. Please, if anyone stumbles upon this episode (or the audio bootleg floating around), do not let it dissuade you from seeing them live. I assure you that Mr. Vedder does not usually sound like that. Was he sick or something?

I agree with the pacing. Shows are usually not sequenced like that (and a quick look at the bootleg indicates that, aside from opening with Walking The Cow, what we saw last night is close to what was played at the taping).Just Breathe and The End are usually much deeper in the show - more often than not (maybe always?) they are in the encores. I guess the band used this as a commercial for Backspacer as opposed to trying to replicate what a Pearl Jam concert is like.

This is the second straight made for TV performance (after Storytellers from a few years ago) that was completely underwhelming. For a band that lives on their live reputation, It's maddening to see these opportunities squandered.

ETA: I did love Red Mosquito with Ben Harper, though.

Fyi: Backspacer is $7.99 on iTunes right now, for those that need more inclination to buy this gem (and the discount must be working: moved up the charts to #17).

This could be the most ridiculous music lawsuit ever:

Eddie Vedder sued over 'Hard Sun' lyric changes

There's only ONE lyric change, to boot:

Indio's version of 'Hard Sun':

When she comes to greet me
She is mercy at my feet
When I stay to pillage her
She just throws it back at me

Vedder's version of 'Hard Sun':

When she comes to greet me
She is mercy at my feet
I see her inner charm
She just throws it back at me

"Eroding the integrity of the composition" my ass.

Nice surprise: PJ is performing on SNL on March 13th. Songs from Backspacer. Hopefully other than 'The Fixer' and 'Just Breathe'.

Boston, baby! Haven't seen them since 2004 at The Shithole Hockey Stadium in Reading, PA. Feels like a good time to jump back into things, before Eddie completely loses his voice.
