Hot damn, MONSTERS? I had no idea. Here's hoping that my HDNMovies preview is still in effect today! It started on Friday, as far as I can tell.

UPDATE: By using the power of READING, I've discovered that the preview runs through today. Awesome. Can't wait to see it.

Umm... it might be worth recording Carson Daly tonight? Frank Darabont's his guest. I imagine he'll be talking WALKING DEAD.

Also, a Ra Ra Riot performance, and that's cool, too.

Tonite 11:15 TCM: Nickelodeon Burt. Bogdanovich. Ryan O'Neal. Be there!

GALAXY OF TERROR is on TCM this Friday night. If that's your kind of thing.
That's taking the C in TCM to new, uncharted depths, but I'll DVR this just to see it in HD.

I'll DVR it to see Robert Osborne's pained introduction-through-gritted-teeth. Will he wince harder than he did in his Carnival Magic intro?? Tune in to find out!

Actually, not to spoil this funny mental image, but it's on at 2:15 AM, so Robert won't be introducing it at that time. It's a TCM Underground movie.

By the way, on their website, they have the movie listed as being directed by James Cameron! Sure, he was the production designer and the second unit director, but to say he directed the whole thing is just inaccurate.

Pretty sure I've seen him intro a couple of those. He definitely intro'd Carnival Magic, which was presented under the TCM Underground banner. You've spoiled NOTHING!
Oh... well, shows you what I know!

I actually missed out on seeing Carnival Magic on there, which I'm disappointed by. Now knowing that Robert Osbourne talked about an Al Adamson movie... now I'm pissed I missed it!
Fucking Carnival Magic. That movie feels like a fever dream I once had.
Boy, did I hate that movie. Not even the hilarious talking monkey could help me get through it.
You could tell Osbourne was also seething with anger when they showed The Terminator. Old school!
His bearded compatriot whose name I never knew seems a little better at introducing the sillier films.
Late night tonight is Galaxy of Terror. If Osbourne was pissed about showing The Terminator, wait til he has to make mention of a film where a big-tittied woman gets raped by a giant maggot.

And Robert Englund!
Well, Robert Osborne never did introduce Galaxy of Terror last month. It was just the standard TCM Underground opening.

However, I'd love it if he did so with the Christmas-themed Underground movies they're showing tonight and next Friday. I mean:

Tonight, 2 AM Santa Claus (the 1959 Mexican version!)
3:45 The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T

Next Friday night, 2 AM: The original Black Christmas
3:45 Santa Claus Conquers The Martians

Awesome.

Nice. I can snag HD copies of HURT LOCKER and BASTERDS, among others. Plus, some stuff I didn't want to pay to see, like FANBOYS and KNOWING.

Also, THE ROAD. I'm not sure which category that one falls into.

The new linear channel version of Fearnet seems to show a bunch of old genre movies. Highlight of the bunch right now: EXPERIMENT IN TERROR, Blake Edwards' sweet Hitchcockian thriller, is on tonight at 4 am and again tomorrow at 2 pm.

Sunday will be pretty nice on MGMHD.

The highlight is the first one, at 2:10 (ET), with ROLLING THUNDER. After that it's Foxy Brown, Slaughter, and revival blaxploitation Original Gangstas. From prior experience, I can say that Rolling Thunder is pretty great in HD format.

So, I just stumbled upon the fact that at midnight (ET) tonight, Fox Movie Channel will be showing At Long Last Love, the infamous Peter Bogdanovich-helmed musical starring Burt Reynolds and Cybill Shepherd that has such a stench as a turkey that it never even got a VHS release, much less DVD. I understand it was on Netflix earlier this year, but for me this is the best (and most legal!) way to watch that film, and I imagine some are in the same boat at I am.

Cronenberg's out-of-print first feature SHIVERS (aka THEY CAME FROM WITHIN) is on IFC (with commercials, alas) at 11:30 Eastern on Friday night.

IFC has commercials now?   That's sad.

And they went all in on those fuckers. Movies are uncut, but commercials as far as you can see. Thankfully, DVR.
