This is not one to be missed.
Right after at 9:30 is the Widescreen presentation of Richard Brooks' Action-Western BITE THE BULLET with Gene Hackman, James Coburn, Jan-Michael Vincent and Candy Bergen. A great, fun flick!

Also on Set. 7th TCM is showing the hard to find Sam Fuller movie, PARK ROW! I'm already geeking out!

Keith Gordon's Vonnegut adaptation Mother Night is playing IFC on Aug. 30 at 6:05 PM EST. Gordon's one of my favorite directors, and probably every movie he's made is under-seen. Great flick, and nifty performance by Nolte.
Mother Night is a terrific movie, and Nolte does some of the best work in his career in it. I'll be DVRing that.

TCM is showing The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp from 2:30 to 5:30 EST on Saturday. Enjoy a Powell / Pressburger classic.

Nicolas Winding Refn's "Pusher" is coming on the Sundance Channel at midnight PST Saturday. It's just the first film, but after seeing the gloriousness of Bronson I've been curious about the trilogy.

Also, a shitload of John Wayne movies on TCM on the 18th for those of you who haven't seen True Grit, McLintock!, Sons of Katie Elder, etc. Get on those.

DirecTV is showing a free preview of its premium HD channels such as HDnet Movies starting tomorrow, so if you normally don't subscribe to it you can still see it!

Grizzly Park on Chiller at midnight tonight.

On HDNet Movies:

Bloody Sunday (2002)
Tue., Sep. 1 - 6:05 PM ET / 3:05 PM PT
Wed., Sep. 2 - 2:15 AM ET / Tue., Sep. 1 - 11:15 PM PT

This is quite flawed but I think it's still worth a viewing.

Bill Douglas' Comrades is showing again on FilmFour at 10.50pm. The first half is a slow-burner but once the story relocates to Australia it becomes something really special. I'll just pinch this from my "i'm about to watch.." post after seeing it earlier in the year.

What a pleasant suprise, if i had to pitch it, i would say Ken Loach meets classic Werner Herzog. It's got a fine cast with Keith Allen putting in a very strong performance, you also get the wonderful Barbara Windsor typically showing her cleavage off in a very small role.

A little write-up on the Film4's website

Apparently the BFI are finally releasing it on DVD and BLU-RAY in July. It's such a great film.

(There's a scene that brings a whole new meaning to "a man's best friend is his dog".)

And Fucking awesome! If you've never seen The Professionals and are a western fan you gotta check that one out.

Seconded. The Professionals is GREAT.

I've never seen it, but TCM Underground is showing Sonny Boy (1990) in one hour! Looks delightfully weird. plot summary: A small-town crook and his cross-dressing "wife" abuse their adopted son to make him the perfect criminal accomplice.
The late legendary David Carradine and Brad Dourif star!

Followed by Psycho.

Tomorrow at 2, check out early Robert Aldrich Western Apache with Burt Lancaster!

Point Blank is on TCM tonight.

I haven't seen this yet, but have heard good things about it. From what I understand David Carradine is the "wife".

Thanks for the Streets of Fire heads up.

Your welcome, Kevin. Glad to be of service.

Faster Pussycat Kill Kill and Mudhoney are on TCM tonight starting at 2 and 4, respectively.

Didn't notice it until I was getting ready for bed, but the Bronson classic "10 To Midnight" was on MGM HD last night. I recorded the last hour of it. Might be on again soon.

"You know what this is for Warren? IT'S FOR JERKING OFF!"
Aw, wish I'd noticed that - I love 10 to Midnight, even though Warren Stacey seeeriously creeps me out. Probably wouldn't have been a good idea to watch that before lights out anyway.

This is going back a bit, but the MACHINE GUN KELLY that AMC ran looked very much like an open matte presentation rather than pan & scan. Didn't seem to be anything chopped from the sides at any point.

FRESH MGM-HD DVR ALERTS:

Sat, October 3, 3:40 PM - SOUTHERN COMFORT
Wed, October 7, 2 AM (evening of the 6th) - TROLL 2.
Wed, October 13, 3:55 AM (evening of the 12th) - Lindsay Anderson's short-ish (around 50 minutes) THE WHITE BUS aka RED, WHITE, AND ZERO - never officially released to home video.

Check the MGM-HD site for more information and repeat showings* - as usual they're running a ton of films worth recording and it'd just be excessive to list them all.

*Fair warning, the HD presentation of TROLL 2 only repeats once - and that's at 10:15 Halloween morning.

Disciple mentioned it in the TCM thread, but I thought I'd give it a shout out here:

Tonight at midnight on TCM--the oft forgotten, underrated Brian DePalma and Paul Schrader team-up-Obsession. A fever pitch Hitchcock pastiche.

Tape it? Okay Flintstone.

Never seen this one, either.

Caught a piece of this today, and it might not mean much to younger Chewers, but used to be (for the bulk of my adult life, in fact) that The Last Man On Earth was only available via shitty bootleg VHS. MGM HD is running it again on Oct 9 at 6pm. I've never seen the movie look even close to this good. Very strange experience.

Oh, and in two hours MGM HD is running the original Last House On The Left.

Early Sunday morning Encore Action is gonna run TIMEBOMB. Not a life changer, but a fun showcase for Michael Biehn and he dukes it out with Billy Blanks.
ATTENTION:

Turner classics is showing Videodrome in 5 minutes. Followed by the 80's cult classic TerrorVision!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FUCK, I forgot to DVR TerrorVision. :/

Zaat on TCM tonight.

The story of Zaat (1972) is the story of a monster movie Lost and Found. It was a micro-budgeted, regionally-produced independent film that suffered obscurity and neglect as many such projects do, but one that has been reclaimed in recent years by its maker and by a small band of fans with fond memories of its original theatrical run.
An article in National Geographic magazine described the hybrid “walking catfish,” which were increasing in number in Florida, so Ron Kivett, head of “Creative Concepts” for Barton Films, proposed a story treatment where a mad scientist turns himself into a catfish monster.
...cinematographer Jack McGowan, who would go on to shoot the low-budget horror films Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things (1973), Dead of Night (aka Deathdream), and Deranged (both 1974).

You had me at hello.
That... that's beautiful.
SHIIIT. I'm leaving for a friend's place straight from work and can't DVR Zaat.

This was also called The Blood Waters of Dr. Z and was the basis of one of the last MST3K episodes in its final season.

Haven't seen it yet, but looking forward to it.

Late tonight TCM is showing Walter Hill's Hard Times starring Charles Bronson and James Coburn. Great movie.
On TCM, Hard Times should be Widescreen as well. The only available DVD is FS. (I'm fortunate enough to still have the old flipper)

The fight scenes have a brutal realism to them. Thud of the bare knuckle brawls will almost make you wince!

It's Walter Hill and Charles Bronson. 'Nuff said.

I took the Beaks suggestion of double-billing this with Diggstown. Go rather great together.
