It does feel a little like a boys' club sometimes. And while I can snark and eviscerate with the best of them, sometimes it is tiresome to enter a thread with defenses on - without proper sarcasm/humor/unaffected coolness you might get pounced on. The spiral from discussion to insults can be rather abrupt.

I don't know if it's a question of gender (or gender performance) or just individual taste though. Damn you Judith Butler!

Folks are generally harmless these days.

What Zooey correctly pointed out is the weird/bad treatment that she can do nothing to eliminate. What you mentioned was Snaieke receiving a (funny) insult from Devin in the course of an exchange where many (unfunny) insults went the other direction.
