2009 Emmy Nominations

I'm sure there's a main page article coming, so I won't go into any detail, but there's one nomination that I'm sure is going to cause multiple paroxysms around here.

No Shield nominations, of course.
Elizabeth Moss got a nod. I'm pleased. January Jones, however, got shafted again. [keep the dirty jokes to yourself, fellas]

Dwight!

Look at the Best Comedy category.
I'm happy for Blown Deadline, long overdue.
How many Emmy nominations did The Wire get in its five year run?

Fuck the Emmys.
What? Family Guy? Geeks getting indignant about that is played out, I thought.
At last, Piven ain't nominated. If Neil Patrick Harris doesn't win it'll be just another proof of how much the Emmy's suck.
More nods to the Kenneth Parcell's gang means more guest stars, budget etc. As long the script and laughs keep the momentum I'm fine.
Shouldn't all the art direction, hair, makeup etc. just be called the Mad Men awards at this point?
Seing you all complaining about MJ on the tellie 24/7, how about just giving all Emmys to the late Michael Jackson for outstanding performance by dying for special class programms Ledger-style and be done with this shit?
I love the writing categories.

Drama: four Mad Mens and one LOST

Comedy: four 30 Rocks and one Conchords
Did they go from 5 to 7 nominations so the networks wouldn't get shut out in the drama categories?

Family Guy over Pushing Daisies? Atleast Chenoweth got a nomination. One more than The Shield got.

And Emerson is the only Lostie despite great work from Holloway and Mitchell.

I've leardned to stop watching the show. Now I need to do the same with these nominationss.
Jermaine Clement is my favorite one.
At least they get it right where Breaking Bad is concerned.

Wouldn't have it any other way. A true testament to the show's greatness.

Throwing Walton Goggins a bone would've made my week. That's the biggest screw over in my book. Though I'm also upset that none of the Generation Kill actors (particularly Alexander Skarsgaard and James Ransone) got a nod.

Yeah, that's great but how about a supporting nod for Rhys Darby? He deserved it for the song in the premiere alone.
I can't believe they've passed over January Jones twice, though in a land where Connie Britton and Mary McDonnell can't get nominated I guess it's expected.

Also, Family Guy just made the sort of Emmy history that The Simpsons and South Park have never managed.

Damn. Wrong thread. Sorry. Carry on.

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series

i thought Fringe would have a nod with John Noble

Yeah, the fact is some shows are too good to be cluttered in with this morass of mediocrity.
Honestly surprised the David E. Kelly hard-on the Emmys have had for years wasn't present - i.e. Boston Legal absent from Best Drama Series nominations.

It's the first show since The Flintstones to do it. I know I shouldn't be pissed about it, but it just rubs me the wrong way.

Still, the writing categories are pretty nice.
I honestly would be happy if ANY of the supporting acting drama guys won.
family guy seasons 1-3 maybe but now is a huge stretch

and I am only really bitter about that because Scrubs was pretty awesome in its last year

hell....better off ted deserves it more than family guy
post #28 of 53
Is it wrong that I'm happy McDonnell and Battlestar didn't get nominated? I'm petty, I guess.

Anyway, with Piven out, it means it's Wilson's or Harris' to lose. This is Harris' year, I think.

It's one of the better lineups in a while. There are the eye-rolls and the obvious shafts, but Morgan and McBrayer make me happy.

Fey and Hamm both got double noms. Timberlake got a Best Guest Actor nom. Great.

Polanski: Wanted and Desired picked up three for special, directing, and writing. Pretty cool.

Fun noms include Dr. Horrible in the "Special Class" category.
Glad to see Family Guy get a nomination... real good season.

Disappointed that there's no nominations for Kings, Rescue Me, or even Burn Notice.
Michael J. Fox got a Guest Actor nomination off Rescue Me.

Yeah, I saw that after looking at the entire list. I was hoping a nom for Leary, one of the supporting guys like Pasquale or Scurti, or a drama series though.
One thing about Family Guy-they had the ballsiest pot-themed episode I've ever seen a TV show do this year. Mostly because it was 100% pro-legalization. I can't believe the censors let it through, as I'm positive it will lead kids to try weed.
Family Guy has pretty much going downhill for years now. There were a few funny episodes, but this is just wrong. For it to get it while The Simpsons never even earned such an honor in the mid-90s is bs.

Here's the thing, though: The Simpsons never submitted themselves in that category. You submit your show for the category you think you qualify in, and The Simpsons never did.

That's the problem with the Emmys. They love to just hand the awards over to the same people year-after-year-after-year.

Right. As much as I love Fey and Baldwin, get used to seeing them win a lot.
Not really surprised about FG's nomination, not because it's good mind you. It's just that no matter how crappy this show is it's beloved by all with no real critical splash back. Where as the Simpsons is crappy (save for the odd episode here and there and the Movie)and everybody but maybe Matt Groening know it.

I'd be VERY surprised if FG managed a win though.

I can see Shaloub pulling out the win in Best Comedy Actor since Monk is ending. And could we potentially see Fey win for Actress and Supporting Actress.
As much as everyone loves to praise Fey and Baldwin to the high heavens, always felt Krakowski put herself out there the most. Glad to see her get a nod.

I think it's almost a given now that The Simpsons and maybe South Park submit for the category next year.

Dear The Emmys,

To paraphrase a recently-departed CHUD poster... ahem...

FUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK YOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUU

Sincerely,
A fan of The Shield

All the Janis Jopler stuff and the episode where she and Tracy change places easily make her Emmy-worthy.
What I mean is pretty much since the pilot, Krakowski's been ready, able and willing to fall on her face and show herself in the most unglamorous light possible for the sake of a gag...and pulled it off. Gotta respect that.

The acting in this one scene alone, should have assured a Goggins and Chiklis nomination

You should indicate the HOLY SHIT level of spoilers in that link.

And as for me, one line alone should've brought the Emmy nominations.

"I've done worse."

I'm actually a little irritated at 30 Rock getting so many nominations - I've been a fan of the show since the start, but I thought Season 3 was the weakest by far.

The Office was in top form this season; in a more fair world it would have received a much bigger share of the nods.

That'd be fine if only PUSHING DAISIES didn't deserve every one more. Fuck I want that show to win every single thing it's nominated for.

Agreed on the 30 Rock overload. Between the Golden Globes and Emmys they must have a shit ton of statues.

[I don't remember the episode but] It's well know they use statues as poker chips...
