Paging Chris Miller to show up and call it a bait thread.

Fuck that reputation. I will say last night when I clicked on this thread, I got a page of white. Then I went to the main page, it locked up, and I got some nasty malware, had to do a system restore. Anyone else get nailed?
I'm assuming this test is in regards to the site being buggy since yesterday? My anti virus kept me from seeing the site all evening yesterday due to a trojan virus. I'm still getting a warning, though the site seems to work fine now.
Ah, that explains why I got bumped a couple times. It did it again this morning, so the problem may not yet be completely resolved.

My Kaspersky AV says it's this:

HEUR:Trojan.Script.Iframer

Seconded SneakyPete. Through all my three browsers. Kaspersky KIS.

I was prompted to download a PDF file upon visiting the main site yesterday. Didn't save it of course, and I can't remember what the filename was, but did anyone else see this thing pop up? This was during the time when the boards were down.

Ah, that's what that was. I was told Adobe Acrobat 8.whatever was crashing when I came to CHUD. But otherwise the site was working fine.
Not gonna lie. Love the site but some of the things that have popped up on the front page in the form of malware and such (which have been reported on here in the past) make me a bit uneasy. I'm making extensive scans of my system at the moment.
Today I went to the main page and everything froze up. After restarting I ran Malwarebytes' and this is what was cleaned up. (The same happened yesterday afternoon after visiting the main page and the exact same stuff was detected):

Memory Processes Infected: 1

C:\WINDOWS\system32\braviax.exe (Trojan.FakeAlert)

Registry Values Infected: 1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run\braviax (Trojan.Downloader)

Registry Data Items Infected: 6

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\FirewallDisableNotify (Disabled.SecurityCenter)

What is/are causing the virus(es)?

That Adobe thing popped up when I logged on a while ago, and my Defender Pro is going crazy.
Eileen, did Sneaky and I detected/prevented a different threat?
I'm still getting cut off from the main site once in awhile. When I do get in, I still get the warning. Also, a few hours ago on the homepage, a box with Nick's twitter popped up. Never saw that before, or since.

Can it be an ad?

Also Linux. Just to be excessively paranoid I scanned with ClamAV but it found nothing.

I got the .PDF download request as well.

Oh well...computer was due for a virus scan anyway.

This is a sign of success for the site though right? When some people go out their way to fuck shit up?
Anyone take note of the name of the .PDF file? I'd like to see if I can find anything about it but I'm not going near the front page.
All i can remember is it sounded like an Italian name with a D.
Hm. I was wondering where it was from. Completely locked me out and had to do a restore like Chris.
I don't know if this is related (haven't had the trojan issues like some) but the past couple of weeks when viewing the main page and clicking on articles while using my laptop (which runs Microsoft..ugh) nothing comes up. The page loads, all the little bells and whistles, but the actual article is never there. This usually is the case for a day or two and then the article magically starts to appear.

Bugs the crap out of me. I've even tried using the links from inside the forums to view the articles when one is posted but it is the same issue. I've cleared caches, cookies, restarted, run spyware/antiviral, turned my ad blocker off but nothing seems to work. It doesn't happen with every article posted but it is happening and it is kinda annoying. Any ideas why?

Edit: This never happens with either one of my desktops (both Macs) or my PDA. Only my laptop and my wife's. So I think it can't just be a computer issue because each laptop is from a different maker and runs a different version of the Microsoft OS.

OK, I can't get to the site at all now, through the main page anyway. I googled chud.com and found a random page. I accessed the forums and I get no problems and no warnings from Kaspersky.

Devin, for the love of Christ! Do something!!!

I'm not getting any of these things. Can you tell me what ad is on the page when this happens?

Dezerro.cn, I think.

For everyone running Firefox, I strongly advise downloading the Adblock Plus and NoScript plug-ins. They really help out in situations like this.
If I type in chud.com, I literally see nothing other than a white background and a big red Kaspersky warning. Can't acess the site at all.

Only by googling something like "chud.com forum" can I bypass the mainpage.
The adobe PDF exploit that appears to have been the culprit sounds potentially nasty from what I've been reading. Anyone who's visited the main page over the last two days probably needs to run thorough scans of their system.

Rabidcow says the problem has been fixed over in the Recent Changes thread.
What have you been reading? Would like to know if I should do anything to my Mac. It asked me to download a PDF (the file, for whoever was curious above, was always a different numbered pdf, i.e. 492.pdf, 844.pdf, etc.) and I declined, obviously. Hoping that put an end to it before it had a chance to do anything.

Same here I don't have adobe reader installed (I prefer foxit instead)

I just read this http://chud.com/forum/showpost.php?p...&postcount=240

Ad Block for the win. Sorry guys, pick better ad providers.

It appears that all platforms are vulnerable to this exploit...

http://www.macworld.com/article/1389...?lsrc=rss_main

But I think you should be okay as long as you declined to save it. Still, to be on the safe side I'd run some scans. There's been mention by some here of the Adobe acrobat starting up and freezing their system which would indicate to me that something may have downloaded automatically and had been opened with Acrobat. I'm not much of a tech wizard, though. Maybe someone else around here has better info. Especially since it appears a few people are reporting that they are still getting warnings when they visit the main page.

Even allowing Adblock over Chud doesn't prevent the Kaspersky block.
Almost nobody actually needs Adobe Reader. If you use a Mac, use Preview. If you use Linux, use Evince or Xpdf or Poppler or whatever shit is in KDE4. If you use Windows, use Foxit. If for whatever reason you must use Adobe, I'm pretty sure you can turn off Javascript - whoever it was at Adobe that thought putting Javascript in PDF was a good idea in the first place should be killed, BBQed, and fed to their own families.

Uninstall.

That's pretty mean-spirited, given that a) ad streams can and do get hacked with malware and the problem is pretty universal, b) chud.com has no control over it when it does happen, and c) there are not many ad providers to pick from, and it's not like Nick can just switch at the drop of a hat.

With the economy being in the shitter, you may want to reconsider your decision to block ads if you like chud.com. I am universally reviled here yet I won't block the ads that come up. It's one of the only ways I can support the site, so I do so gladly.

Was Rob's reaction to the persistent trojan and malware issues really that unreasonable?

You are not this guy. There is a real problem here and needs to be addressed in a serious matter.
We have been working on this all weekend.

This is a non-destructive glitch on an ad someone else is administering and working on.

You've noticed the Paypal donation requests?

The site needs MORE ad usage, not less.
That's exactly why your reaction to Rob is not the best solution here. Explaining what the problem is/was and trying to figure the shit out so that we can all use the site accordingly is much better.
I wake up and see someone publicly talking about blocking our ads. I don't care who it is, that is tantamount to stealing from the seriously diminished funds that allow this site to exist.

Tati, I love ya... but it is no secret the site needs people to show their support now more than ever.

Eh, I get hate from the new people too, so there's really no point in rehashing the tales. Not that someone with 5 minutes of extra time couldn't just look up and read about everything anyways, but hey.
