Damn, trailer looks great.
This is really a must get. Curious about the stuff you Can't talk about. Wondering what Harmonix has up their sleeves.
I got my hands on this back at E3 (played "I Want to Hold Your Hand) and had a blast. But I think I mostly amused the Harmonix group when I said that I'm really not a very good player and therefore I was just going to stick with the guitar and not provide backup vocals. They tried to get me to sing anyway but I explained "Look, the best I'll be able to do is sing 'red. . . red red blue. . . red blue red blue greeeeeen. . . '".

I want them to release "Within You Without You." They could sell tabla and sitar accessories. . .

We have ways of making him talk.

Ask and you shall receive...

I can't help it-- I am positively giddy for this thing. I know it's not going to be as challenging as a lot of folks would like, and drummers might be a bit disappointed by the lack of fills... but it looks like exactly what it needs to be: a Beatles game based on Rock Band, not the next iteration of the main Rock Band game.

I do continue to think that they've front-loaded it pretty heavily with the best guitar riffs, and that future DLC may feel a bit lacking in that regard, but that's a pretty minor quibble.

I didn't know what this was, since those songs come from different albums. But this must be the remix from the Love album. I'll have to check out that track.

Very much interested in this game, whereas GH5 falls flat to me.
Damn, completely missed Within You when I scanned the list.

At E3 they mentioned that they plan to release DLC in albums. I think Abbey Road is the first one that will become available. No idea if their agreement covers the entire discography.

All that's been announced so far is Abbey Road and the 360 exclusive of All You Need Is Love. Course, people don't know if there are any Abbey Road songs in the game already.

Yep, that's exactly what it is!

According to the early press releases, it does.
Great write-up. I'm thrilled they're included some "Love" songs. I wouldn't really want to play "Within You/Without You" by itself, but I love the version that melds into "Tomorrow Never Knows" and it means you get more Beatles for your buck. Good deal.

If ONLY it was so easy on these boards.
...or maybe it's ALREADY happened.
I almost want to get this (I don't have Rock Band nor GH for my PS3, only GH for the PS2) just because of the available instruments that mimic the Beatles' equipment. And I'm not even a huge Beatles fan.
Oh man, look at those visuals. Imagine if Activision had bagged the Beatles catalogue.

They had McCartney's Hofner there and I wanted to try it out, but apparently they had taken it to their events at Citi Field last week and the people playing just went nuts and broke it. But it sure looked nice.

I'm assuming the bass isn't left handed, right? Becuase that would be a bitch...

It's a right-handed bass. And I read somewhere that there was a concession made, that allowed Harmonix to add a whammy bar to the Hofner.

The Beatles, featuring the Axe Body Spray Girls, at Shea Stadium! Woooo!

I'm of the mind that the first 3rd party to release a leftie rockband guitar will make a killing.
Well, it would help if Rock Band made switching to lefty mode as easy as GH does.

We finally added another button to one of our Strats to make it easier to switch the strap for lefties.

They actually did. When you choose what instrument you're playing you can just hit the back button (I believe) to change it, and it says if you're playing righty or lefty directly above your chosen difficulty. With no more characters to pick it makes getting in games really quick and easy.

There are too many Beatles songs in this Beatles anthology!
This is pretty cool: I read we'll get Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Rubber Soul some time after Abbey Road is released. Wonder what album comes after that. Evolver, most likely. I'm sure they'd save Let It Be and the white album till later on.

EDIT:
Anyone know how often they'll be releasing content? I think I read somewhere that Abbey Road will be out a month after release. So I'm assuming one album per month.
Not that I'm complaining about the content released so far, but, you know, seeing as we're less than a month away, a tracklist of what's actually coming with the game would be awesome about now.

I can't help you out there (yet) but tomorrow morning part 2 of my extensive hands-on coverage will be going up. It's been tough to sit on some of this for so long...
So here's a question I had, spurred by the NY Times article:

Is there some sort of band quickplay where you could play, say, a later Beatle song (i.e. Get Back) in Shea Stadium?

I suppose I'm curious because of the DLC --- will they be coming with new "settings" or slotted in with the most appropriate era?

That article also mentioned the one thing that hadn't (but should have) occurred to me: no crowd noise or antics once they get to the studio. That's too bad. It will be sort of weird.

I'm fairly certain that each song is rooted in a certain area. They're got specific animations and effects for each section (or era) so I don't believe they're interchangeable. Not sure if they've decided what to do with the DLC, but I'll ask... I know people are wondering if there will be new locations or if they'll just be plugged into existing ones from the game, but they weren't saying when I met with them.

No Happiness Is A Warm Gun makes me sad panda, but otherwise, PERFECT.

And I'll gladly bet vital organs on that 45th song being Hey Jude.

I guess I'm the only one who is finding it extraordinarily difficult to want to buy a game that won't mesh with my voluminous Rock Band 1 and 2 library, regardless of the band featured.

You're not. I'll be renting it. If it exported into RB2, it'd be an instant purchase.

Read that NY Times article. Making everything exportable would cheapen what they're trying to do with this game.

great article, can't wait to get my hands on this game next month.
Good God. There is nothing but pure unconditional LOVE going into this game.
Excellent write-up Alex... totally jealous.

I do have a quick question. How much is the entire set? I heard rumors of 200 dollars and I nearly crapped myself. I love the Beatles, but that's way too much money for a law student to spend on a video game.

Is the game going to be sold without the bundle on 9/9? And if so, I would assume Rock Band peripherals will work, right?

Heh. Try $250.

Ugh. That's a total deal breaker. Too bad.

Maybe I'll just buy an extra mic or something.

Here's the pricing, and yes, it's ridiculously expensive. But there's no reason not to just get the game by itself unless you're a superfan or don't have plastic instruments already. Don't forget, you don't even need an extra mic if you don't all mind piling on one- it'll pick up all the different harmonies on just one mic.
