The Beatles: Rock Band - Page 8

I finally did all the chapter challenges on Expert bass. It's a lot harder to get 5 stars on some of these songs than it should be. 'Helter Skelter' fucking killed me, and 'I want you' gets annoying when McCartney pulls out some bass guitar wankery at the end. Still, I did feel a great sense of accomplishment.

Wooo!

11/17/09 will end up being one of my funnest days of the year. Is that sad? Seems a little sad.
I don't know that I'd pay $13.50 for those tracks. I may pick up a couple of them though.
Why Help! wasn't included on the original game is beyond me. All I'm saying is that shit better be available soon. Rain would also be a blast to play on drums.

I'm very much enjoying this with my shiny new working guitar! Hooray!

Argh. My precious, precious wrists and fingers!

That's sort of how I feel after a while on the Hofner. It's not as big as a real guitar or bass and not as small as the Rock Band guitars for me to get completely comfortable with it. It's right in between, making it the perfect size for pain. But I put up with it because it's so beautiful.

Oh, Hofner, baby . . . Why do you have to hurt me like this?
Yeah, and the green-orange chord on the Guitar Hero guitars is painful. I think they do that just to be cruel sometimes.

Hahaha, oh the Claw. It's a rite of passage for every new GH/RB player.

Just another reason why the drum set is so much more seductive to me these days.
Who picked up Sgt. Pepper? I don't have the points right now but the difficulty rankings look decent. I don't think any of the songs dip as low as some of the Abbey Road stuff. Are the charts as good as the songs lead me to believe?

Only played through them all on guitar so far but I don't think there's a solid guitar track in the bunch. With the exception of a couple you end up playing pianos, violins and harps for good sections of the songs. Just keep that in mind, I suppose.
I figured that might be the case. I was listening to the album again the other day and figured they'd have to do a lot of instrument swapping. I've been most entertained with the drums charts on this game, though.
I may be done with the Little Plastic Instrument genre. I played through Beatles, but more out of a sense of feeling like I had to finish than out of really digging playing the stuff (outside one or two songs). And I haven't touched Rock Band in months.

Full rundown of all the songs- http://chud.com/articles/articles/21...AND/Page1.html

New Yorkers, I know this is incredibly last minute but we're doing another Beatles night at Hell Gate tonight. Should be fun, and George has some sick food there now. Gonna get me some chili dogs and sing Lovely Rita.

Though it's not the most ideal song for actual gameplay, the dreamscape for A Day in the Life goes as bugfuck as anything I've ever seen in a video game. Blissful.
Thanks for that write-up, Alex. I wasn't really looking forward to playing Within You, Without You but if the chart is fun maybe it won't be so bad.
I'm curious about Rubber Soul next month. Will the songs take place in Shea/Budokan, or will there be a new venue? Or new dreamscapes?

Really been awaiting this one. "Nowhere Man" with full harmonies? Bliss.

Oh shit, so there was a price mistake on the press release that went out. It's actually 18 bucks! Hm.
That's a bit iffy, especially if most of these songs are at the Budokan/Shea Stadium arenas and not dreamscapes.
It's my favorite album of theirs, so this is a no brainer. Dreamscapes would be a bonus.

OK, I can stop worrying about your math skills.

It did seem rather a bargain.
This is the one Beatles album I've never heard in entirety. I probably need to change that.
The DLC for this game just keeps making it better and better. Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band is my favorite album of all time without a doubt, and being able to play the album in the game just makes me so happy.
Played Rubber Soul through last night; it was great, though after all these years it still sounds odd not to hear the songs in the sequence of the American version.

In particular, I've always felt that "What Goes On" just feels out of place on Rubber Soul, but that song turns out to be a blast to play in Beatles Rock Band.

About half of the downloaded tracks are Budokan performances, and half are Dreamscapes, with the one for "Norwegian Wood" being particularly nice.
I'm still annoyed that "All You Need Is Love" isn't out on PS3 yet. The MS exclusivity was supposed to end in December.

This game is still greatness. I picked up Guitar Hero: Smash Hits the other day for super cheap but and it just makes this game look even more amazing. I can't hardly even play Rock Band 2 anymore.
I bought the Rubber Soul DLC last night but havent had a chance to play through it yet. It sounds like its pretty good though!
Here we are, already (almost) half way through January and we've got no new announcement for the next albums? Wonder what the deal is.

What album do you guys think is next? If there will be a next one...
I was wondering the same thing. Could just be a little holiday down time, and they'll resume in February.

But then I was wondering how many big songs are still out there; could they possibly sit on the rest and do a sequel? I know that the reasoning behind the new versions is that they need new shelf life. Given what they shelled out for the rights, I wouldn't be surprised.
Hey Jude, Happiness Is A Warm Gun, and Across The Universe still remain. So, yeah, there's still work to be done.
I know that Harmonix indicated that anything beyond those first three depended on sales (though they didn't put it that bluntly), and I have no idea how they performed relative to expectations. I know the game itself did something like 600K last fall against projections of a million (but who knows how realistic that was?).

Assuming they do continue, I'd expect to see Revolver next (we've already seen the animation for "Got To Get You Into My Life"), and Help! (since the title song is probably THE most obvious omission from the first game).

I'd be suprised to see another game disk: most of the hits (and best guitar riffs) are already out.

DLC announcement, but don't get your hopes up too much- http://chud.com/articles/articles/22...OVE/Page1.html
post #388 of 389
Yeah, I've actually kind of already given up on expecting more DLC for this game.

I had initially assumed that what they paid for the rights would necessitate their doing a lot of DLC, but I suppose it might be worth eating some of that if the tradeoff between production costs and sales isn't a good one.
I know around the game's release, Harmonix was saying they wanted to do the entire catalog. But if sales of the game at retail were below expectations, then there's a good possibility that the DLC sold below forecasts as well.

Jeb says that they didn't put it so bluntly, but I think they pretty much did. Back in October, Harmonix said:

"Every time we do one song, it's not like Rock Band where we wait for the masters to come in and just author them... its like, send people to Abbey Road, use the original tape, separate them out... it costs thousands of dollars. We're waiting to see how things sell. We're waiting to see how the albums do. If they sell well, we'll have a lot more content."

I'm still hoping that we'll see some more DLC. But it's not going to happen if it isn't profitable.
