That's what I was getting at. And, we'll definitely take some of that fine wine.

Not surprised at all. The best thing she could've done would have been to stay quiet and fade off into the sunset. Hiring a lawyer who goes out and makes ridiculous statements in an attempt to deflect any criticism of her actions just draws more attention to her. If she can stay out of the spotlight for a few more days, the beerfest at the White House will effectively end her role in the whole affair.

It requires good judgment on the part of the arresting officer in order to be used effectively, and in this case good judgment was NOT used. Crowley's manhood was called into question by this yelling, rich, well-connected (and black) man and he chose to assert his authori-tah. I mean, what's the underlying public good being served by Gates' arrest? Was he obstructing an investigation? Intimidating a police officer? Or was it merely a wound of pride?
And THAT is exactly why Crowley "acted stupidly". He had to know that by arresting this guy, he took what would have been a routine call that was nothing more than a misunderstanding and escalated it for no good reason.

McCotter Readies House Resolution Calling for Presidential Apology to Cambridge Police Sergeant

Washington, D.C. -- Unless President Obama apologizes for impugning the professional conduct of Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley, when Congress returns on Monday, U.S. Representative Thaddeus G. McCotter (R-MI) will introduce a House Resolution calling on President Obama to do so.
I'm sure someone who can't get their health condition treated because nobody will insure them will take solace in the fact that Obama might have to fucking apologize about this.

I'm so tired of hearing about this "beer summit" and it still hasn't happened. Can't wait for this to be over.

Did he think calling someone a jungle monkey was that much worse than just calling them a monkey? I'm just curious. I mean, jungle monkey actually sounds kind of cool, and banana-eating jungle monkey...that almost made me laugh. Now, porch monkey would make me slap a bitch, but only because monkeys on porches is as ridiculous as Bananas in Pajamas.

I love how he claims he didn't mean it in a "racist" way. You know, racists would be kind of funny if they weren't so busy being, you know, racist. Anyway, the Celtics may have fallen off but the Boston PD is still puttin' in work.

Oh God, and the sergeant had a press conference afterward.

He actually handled it quite well, but I can tell these two are not ready to let all of us move on as they plan more meetings. I can already see that this guy in particular is planning a political career.

*sigh*

Bullshit. This clearly should have been a purposefully casual "buncha guys sitting on front steps/back porch" thing. The moment a waiter entered the equation the whole point of "let's have a beer" was lost.

And the Republican Party casts aside their old plaything, having found a new Joe The Plumber for the post-election world.

While at the gym earlier, the monitors in the treadmill area were tuned to CNN, and they flashed a "BREAKING NEWS: THREE MEN IN BACKYARD AT WHITE HOUSE". I almost faceplanted after slowing down in sheer incredulity at what I was reading.

Below that were ticklers about assaults at Neda's grave in Iran.

You mean you didn't see Wolf Blitzer's 3D rendering of the white house lawn and where the beer-drinking would take place? Christ.

I'm kinda worried about the possibility that you're totally serious.

I love the (probably) intentional black guy/white guy/black guy/white guy setup at that table.

Cant make it look like one team against the other, right?

Aren't the odds of that happening kinda 50/50?

I just want Joe Biden to say something wacky and piss everyone off.

Indeed. I was pseudo-joking, but at the same time I could seriously see whatever White House press consultant person having name cards on each of the seats.

Might have been a conscious effort to put Gates and Crowley next to each other.

BTW, doesn't the White House have a proper bar?

That had to be the least casual "casual" beer drinking session I've ever seen. And who the hell thought putting Joe Biden at the table with a pint of beer was a good idea?
Apparently this thing has hurt Obama in the polls .Part of me thinks the nation just liked the idea of voting for a non-threatening black guy and not a leader since they're getting pissed at the guy for simply expressing a opinion.

It was non-alcoholic. Apparently Biden does not drink.

A friend of mine who grew up in Cambridge directed me to the Herbert piece recently. A great op-ed that doesn't forget to place the Gates incident within the larger issue of the relationship between minorities and the police.

Stormin: The funny thing is, barring the tats, that could almost be Biden's head on Clinton's body. Imagine if Biden were Clinton's VP...
