Peter Capaldi fucking kills in this as Malcolm Tucker, easily the best non-Pixar related flick I’ve seen all year.
Really enjoyed this when I saw it a few months ago (being an Englifh film, we obviously got it a while back). Worryingly accurate on one or two figures of the Blair administration, too.

Armando Iannucci seems to be very much a rising star in comedy. I remember when he was still just doing radio.

I cannot wait for this, I'm off to the uk in a few weeks and will try to find it showing somewhere.

It's released on DVD and Blu-Ray in the UK on Auguest 24th, if you're still around by then to pick up a copy.

I'll be buying it day one, I love it without hesitation, it's probably the best film I've seen all year. It should be up for several Oscars next year (Peter Capaldi for Supporting Actor, thanks), if there is any common sense in the Academy.

I still break up laughing without fail whenever I remember Malcolm barking, "Kiss my sweaty balls, you fat fuck!" at a random tourist, before sprinting off into the distance. That one scene was funnier to me than the entirety of Role Models, I Love You, Man and The Hangover put together.

Was Malcolm based on someone in the UK in particular? On the American side I can picture someone like Rahm Emanuel having a similar personality.

Notorious doctor of spin Alastair Campbell.

This has to be the most quotable British comedy since Withnail & I, and the very best comedy of the year. If Peter Capaldi doesn't pick up some major awards it will be a tragic oversight. Cult classic status awaits.
I've been putting as many people as possible onto this. Great comedy. I think it's the lack of real punchlines that gives it its charm. Every single thing that comes out of everyone's mouth is hilarious so you can't really burst out laughing or you'll miss shit. You have to kind of chuckle along with an idiot grin on your face. It's a lot of work!
Terrific film. Peter Capaldi definitely deserves some awards consideration.

And Chad rules.
A perfect fucking movie. I'm watching it for the third time in 24 hours right now.
Posting from the theater, eh?
Well, it's available On Demand right now... let's hope for the best.
Yeah, it's amazing how like every line of dialogue is hilarious here. Living in the area, the DC scenes in particular are pretty accurate, with the interns and young staffers hanging out at the local bars and clubs and going crazy. The writers obviously knew a good amount about working in government.

It was doing really well at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas, though, no clue about how it did at the IFC Center.

I've used "sitting like some clueless egg cunt" twice in conversations so far.

Hopefully they'll get off their asses and release The Thick of It over here finally!

I hope you guys over there get the two hour-long specials as well as the regular series, because they are probably Iannucci's finest (most spiteful) work.

Oh, OK. That's good to know. Both for the piracy thing, and that I can see this again. Great film. I was delighted to see Anna Chlumsky in this. Nostalgia, I know.

Never forget Malcolm Tucker's Law- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T0Of...eature=related

Can anyone swear as well as Capaldi? He makes it a fucking art form.

On Demand. 24 hour "rentals," and this cost $6.99. I'd say I got my money's worth.
I am sorry to have doubted you. I am not sorry that you just spent $7 of my own.
So fucking great. This really raises foul-mouthed vitriol to a new level. It's damn near the Network of political satires. Also might be the best use of pop culture references in recent memory. "Shut it, Love Actually!"

I'm convinced that David Rasche was deliberately doing Rumsfeld.
David Rasche was a revelation but personally, nothing beat the scene where Malcolm has that meeting with that kid and loses it. God I love Malcolm.

Capaldi is such a hurricane in this movie that it was amazing when Gandolfini finally faces him down. It was like Clash of the Titans there.

Who was that actor who plays the press officer who bursts into that minister's office and tramples his fax machine? That was another Tasmanian Devil-esque performance.

Damn, I already need to see this again.

Especially since I still think of him as Peter Riegert's sweet-natured Scots associate in Local Hero.

Caught it the first time: "White Stripes, get out."

Caught it the second time: "There's only two people in the White Stripes..."

Being A-murrican, I don't know much of Alistair Campbell. But I did get a strong Sir Humphrey Appleby vibe.

God, this was worth an hour long bus ride to downtown Seattle to see.

"There's an old saying in England...."difficult-difficult, lemon difficult."
Funniest movie of the year, and yet also thoroughly depressing as an effective satire of the assclowns in power during the Bush years.

The actor's name is Paul Higgins, and the character Jamie, like Malcolm, is taken directly from The Thick Of It. Here's a clip of his prior greatness:

This needs to be on Region 1 DVD right fookin' now.
Watched this last night, bless On Demand for once.

Perfect cast, but Peter Capaldi and his junior compatriot stole the show. I love the friction between the balls-out Scots and soft English. And nice to see Gina McKee in a comedy.

Now maybe the Weinsteins will get off their asses and refund Capaldi's feature-length stuff. With this and his homerun in Torchwood, people should be lining up to have him do bigger work.
I mistakenly thought the wind-down was going to finally let me sip my drink and quickly swallow, and then Gandolfini's tired "Fuck off, Frodo" caused a small mess.

Jesus, this movie. My friend and I spent much longer than its actual running time quoting the shit out of it. "You know me, Malcom -- kid gloves, made from real kids." And I plan to get a lot of use out of "F, star, star, cunt" in the years to come. Hardest I've laughed over the course of a movie all year.

Steve Coogan's great cameo was entirely unexpected. And for all the well-earned praise Capaldi's getting, Tom Hollander was utterly brilliant. "I haven't got any thoughts. I'm just staring into space while a voice in the back of my head goes 'Oh shit,' like a car alarm going off in the middle of the night."
I don't have any more praise to add to this film, just that I've seen it four times now and it holds up incredibly well. But I did want to make you all jealous with a story.

I got invited to the afterparty for the film after its Tribeca Premiere, and grabbed a friend to head on down to it. It was at some absolutely fucking ridiculous penthouse apartment in Tribeca- one that had a three story high rock climbing wall inside it. Yeah. Cramming in the elevator to go up with a bunch of other people we noted that Mimi Kennedy (Karen Clarke from the film) was trying to get on, but it was too packed. She shrugged, stepped back, smiled and said "Fuckity bye!"

The doors closed and we couldn't stop laughing. And then we went up to see pretty much everyone involved with the film drinking and dancing. My friend, who hadn't seen the film, freaked out when I pointed out that Chlumsky was behind him dancing away.

We all got kicked out after something like two hours, which was fucking ridiculous. Kind of a lame party, actually.

Love her. She gets one of the best lines, too, where she describes Washington as being like "Bugsy Malone, only with real guns."
This movie deserves more love.

It has the best dialogue of any film this decade.

"Your a F**CUNT!"
Finally watched it on Demand -- I haven't seen a movie this consistently funny throughout its running time in a while. Great CHUD recommendation.
I saw this on Monday at the theater, and man this is probably the funniest movie I've seen this year, just great stuff. It seems, to me at least, this and Burn After Reading would make a great double feature.

For some reason I loved it that Malcolm Tucker would just call people Harry Potter characters.
Speaking of BURN AFTER READING, it took me a while to realize that Linton Barwick was also the guy who worked for JK Simmons.

The pop culture references in this film were really brilliant. Stuff like "White Stripes, get out" was so understated, but still so hilarious.
The builders rant had me in fucking tears. I really need to watch the rest of the Thick of It now because I only caught one episode when it originally ran. Loved the fact that the film was essentially a continuation of the series.

it actually threw me slightly that Chris Addison was playing a different character in the film as everything else was essentially the same.

"Shagging for World peace" was a pretty special line, I thought.

Anyway, this is out on DVD in the UK on Monday. Plus, I think you can pick up the series and the specials of the Thick of it for about five pounds each these days. They are well worth it.
Simon and Toby's impressions of Judy in the fileroom killed me, as did the post-meeting discussion, as did Miller doing the troop calculations on the kiddie calculator. Also, Anna Chlumsky is still adorable. And Peter Fucking Capaldi. This movie is GREAT - kudos, Alex.
Loved this flick! Definitely catch it if you haven't. Like Glengarry Glen Ross or Reservoir Dogs, it's gonna be a big cult movie quoted for decades. Peter Capaldi is brilliant, a complete opposite here of his Torchwood character.

And here's a fucking uncensored clip that would make the fucking cunts you work for fucking shit bricks on fire if you're fucking stupid enough to fucking play it at your fucking job, you dripping fucking wanker. And, by the way, fuck off.

...I THINK that could of come with a NSFW warning...

Ya cunt.
If there is any justice in the world, this film would win or at least be nominated for best original screenplay. By far the funniest, sharpest film I've seen all year.

Also, if anyone's got the DVD, it's packed to the gills with deleted scenes that are just as funny as the ones that made it into the film. I particularly like the There Will BE Blood one.... "THERE WASN'T ANY BLOOD!!!"
The new series of The Thick Of It begins tonight. UK Chewers rejoice!
They better start bringing these out over here, damn it. I need more Malcolm Tucker in my life. We all do.

No kidding. I can't believe IFC hasn't been all over that yet.

I don't know much about American television channels, but isn't there a BBC America? Is there a possibility it might make an appearance there?
BBC America censors language and content, and also cuts for commercials.
So is this now a discussion thread for The Thick of It? Because 'He's so Dense light bends around him' and 'Knife addled, rape sheds' were amazing quotes.

Spaced was almost unwatchable because of this. They even cut out the credits gags in every episode.
This is available to rent from Blockbuster and also to download.

Definitely the funniest movie I've seen all year.

"Sorry, sorry, I know you disapprove of swearing so I'll sort that out. You are a boring F, *, *, CUNT!"

The typing on the kid's calculator destroyed me.

So many great characters and performances in this. Love it love it love it.
Nice to see it got Best Screenplay at the British Independent Film Awards but even better this weekend had to be the downright fucking amazing episode of The Thick of It. That they can make you feel sympathy for a monstrous and obnoxious bastard like Malcolm is a tribute to both the writers and Peter Capaldi, whose rant in the final few minutes was fabulous:

"You can't fuck me, I'm unfuckable! Try to fuck me and my arse will grow fangs and snap your cock off."
